  1. Thanks everyone for the advice so far. I have the guy coming on Monday so ill see what he is doing. I am completely new to large diesel trucks so I felt the best thing I can do is get someone who knows what they are doing. I'll play with it on Sunday by checking shut off valves and maybe dropping the fuel line into a can of fuel to see if that makes a difference but anything beyond that, I will be at a disadvantage. I just realized last night I have owned this thing for a week now and haven't brought the wife to see it. We're going to pop over tonight. Oh and all those comments on how DD were oil leakers I thought were exaggerated until I owned this thing. With only running for the short time it can, there is already a 5" circle of oil under it in two locations.
  2. Good recommendation. I was looking at the back of a dump earlier today thinking "I wonder who did that work?"
  3. I could use that. Bring it to Macungie and ill "borrow" it. Lol
  4. Vlad - Thanks for the kind words. I am not going as far as you are with your restoration project but I think its a good truck and it needs to be saved. The funny thing is the more I am talking with locals about it, everyone knows about the truck. Its like a silent celebrity. The one dude even said "Wow, thats so cool you got that truck. I have always looked at it and hope it wasn't going to be scrapped" - No sir, its not.
  5. I contacted Paul White, a local mobile diesel tech who also has a restored B Model. He is going to come out on Monday and go over the truck with me. I would rather have a pro check it out so I know its fixed right. So it will cost be a few hundred bucks but its better money spent then to have it towed and then still might need him to come out. Money well spent in my opinion instead of risking driving it and something go wrong, especially with the brakes.
  6. Does anyone know of a good shop in NJ who can fab up a 2" receiver hitch for my General? I maybe jumping the gun since I still have to get I road worthy but I would like to be able to pull my shops 2 car open and 2 car enclosed trailers that are bumper pull. Plus I may be able to get some side work moving RV trailers for the place across from me.
  7. That's going to make a nice "tent" to stay in for Macungie.
  8. There's a video of that one on YouTubeThis one was at Gerharts last year. I was really diggin it too. How odd that I wind up with one.
  9. It's not a Superliner in my avatar but the GMC General. They look similar. My old one was a B model wrecker I had seen in the junkyard a few years back. I still want to buy a single axle B but this is going get my feet wet. Ill probably play with it for a while then sell it for a good b61 down the road. Or add to the collection.
  10. Nope, just hate Ticks. Blood suckers!Ok tonight my buddy's son came by to give me a hand. We drained out 30 gallons of nasty amber colored diesel mixed with water. I got 10 gallons of fresh fuel, new filters, filled the filters with new fuel and installed them. Also put in two gallons of oil as it was barely on the stick. She fired right up as usual but died out again. He said its losing prime. We took the filters off and they were empty. It seems to be running on the fuel in the filters until its dry. Any ideas? Unfortunately he hasn't worked on any Detroit's so he was at a disadvantage. Good news is the brakes started to make noise so that's a good sign but the valve under the pedal is sticking. I hope a liberal dose of PB Blaster helps loosen it up. I am thinking I might just have it towed back to my shop. This way it's out of there and at my shop so we will have power and air to use. Plus I can take my time to make sure everything is right and safe.
  11. Vlad I am very impressed with the quality of this restoration you are doing. As someone who deals in restored classic cars, I am always appreciative of the labor and hard work it takes to restore a vehicle, let alone a large truck. I am looking forward to seeing the progress.
  12. I get random telemarketers calling my home number. None of them breathing heavy, well except that one assumingly fat woman eating tastycakes trying to get me to open a credit card I didn't want.
  13. I did check the air cleaner housing. I also left the hood of the housing off it when I fired it up in case I had to cut off air if it started to run away from me. As for HP I believe the paving co told me it was 475 but ill check around tomorrow for a tag.
  14. Got my plan for tomorrow. We are going to drain the main tank ( passenger tank is just about empty already ) of the old fuel ( only about 15 gallons if that in there ) then back flush the lines install the new filters and put in new fuel. I have a feeling that may solve most of my issues. It won't hurt.
  15. Another video from a couple more clips I did. http://youtu.be/VPQsWYokKWI Interesting note, you see me picking at my arm, there was a Tick on it. Damn woods!
  16. My buddy's son is a diesel tech. He's going to come by on Tuesday to go over the truck so it will run right and check everything over. More videos to come. I am still astounded it fired up instantly. Where on the DD does it tell the HP rating?
  17. Well, I had a productive day. Got 4 new batteries from NAPA and a new ignition switch and installed them. Then set up my Canon and the GoPro in two different spots to capture the first fire up (or failure). SOB fired off immediately! Ran for about a minute then stalled. Oil pressure went to 20psi then when it was starting to drop RPMs before it stalled, it went to 10psi. Its got some leaking at the oil filter when it first fired off and something leaking from the drivers side of the engine. I think there is a fuel issue. After I let it sit for a couple minutes, it will run again for 30 seconds then stall again. I am going to get new filters tomorrow and install them. How long does it take for the air pressure to get to around 120? The gauge didn't seem to move much if any but I did hear air when I hit the parking brake release. Also there is a lever on the steering column that has air lines running to it with a warning label that states "Not for parking" - What the heck is that for? Brakes are locked up (not enough pressure yet) so I couldn't get it to roll. I tried to slide it into gear with it running and it was grinding. If I put it into gear, then press the clutch and fire it up then start to let the clutch out it does grab and want to go. What would prevent me from putting it into gear when its running first even with the clutch depressed? Here is the video as promised - Warning, explicit language (I am dropping F-Bombs like crazy): http://youtu.be/-2eNwZ7e4hE
  18. I called around to the local dealers. None of them were running deals on batteries. The local parts store is giving me a good discount on 4. Retail for a group 31 was $135 a piece, my price $98. I am picking them up tomorrow.
  19. You only have a few months before Macungie. Get that puppy together.
  20. I'll give a call and see if they are running a deal. I'll drive 45 minutes to save $240.
  21. I am pulling the batteries in the morning so I will find out what they are. Thank you everyone for the well wishes on my new toy.
