  1. I spoke with the local DMV clerk today as I had to pick up title work for my shop. She clearly had no clue what I was talking about so I just left without my questions answered. But I spoke with my friend Russ and told him I wanted to get my CDL. He said if I pass my physical and the written test dont worry about the road test. He can get a truck and trailer for me to use and practice on. He's gone this before helping other guys and said no one failed yet so I am not going to be the first. I have the manual so for the next few weeks I am reading up.
  2. We're going to get a mix of rain and snow down the shore, prob 4 inches or so. Shouldn't be too bad but just 50 miles north they are going to be at least 6-12 inches. North Jersey and above are supposed to get hammered! I had a 1936 Chevy Street Rod that was supposed to go up by Rochester this weekend. The transporter said he is going to put it off until next week. He doesn't want to be driving in the storm. I don't blame him.
  3. I am thinking this is the kinda rig I should be looking for - 5 Pack is perfect, hauls 5 and no trailer, easy to drive: http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/ctd/3493705514.html or http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/3587611520.html
  4. This is clearly unconstitutional and who the hell in their right mind would allow this? This president is wiping his ass with the Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution and the American morals and people don't get it. Whats next, remove his desk from the oval office and install a throne? Do all Americans have to kneel before the all mighty Obama? I am appalled, pissed, angry, and flabbergasted. This guy needs to be removed from office and these judges stripped from their positions. Why is it OK for this clown to kill anyone he sees fit but the rest of us have to deal with Gun control. WTF!
  5. I haven't had a Jav in this joint for a long time. That was a Levi Edition! But I did just sell a 1968 AMX here:
  6. I agree with you guys. A CDL is the move. I was discussing it with my wife last night and she said it will only help. I won't be limited to the types of trucks I can buy. I have to see if I can call in a favor with some friends to see if they can help with their trucks so I can get some road time and hopefully use them to take my test. I don't think I will have any problems with the driving portion, its the pretrip and all the questions I want to make sure I have down pat.
  7. I would speak with the ADA and let him know you want him to see jail time. You will not tolerate this kid getting a slap on the wrist. If they want a plea deal it has to be something you will accept.
  8. Just tell him "sorry, we do not deal in spear parts, just javelins".
  9. Paul, I have the manual downloaded I guess I was interpreting differently.
  10. Well this puts me in a different direction since if I am going to need a CDL or anyone else driving this combo it would make more sense to invest in a truck and trailer that can do 3-4 cars at a time to maximize the money per trailerful. Time to reorganize and figure what I want to do. Plus I don't think the insurance guys want me calling every other day changing my mind on flatbed then pickup and trailer to semi. As always you input is helpful and most appreciated.
  11. Then I should prob look into this. I was under the impression that since the GCWR was under 26,000 I was still ok. I might have to contact NJ DMV for this. I have been using this trailer at our shop since 1996 not for hire hauling and delivering our own stuff but since we are a dealership it still might fall under commercial use. I'll have to get my buddy with his tri axle dump to help me get my cdl, unless someone here would like to help. I can pay in beer! What about the question of the pickup and trailer? Does it have to be registered at the GVWR of the truck or the combo of truck and trailer?
  12. Sorry for not being a Mack truck question but it still pertains to trucking in general. I picked up a 99 f350 Dually with the 7.3l. The truck has a GVWR of 11,200 with a maximum towing cap of 13,300. My shop has a 36' Appalachian two car trailer with a 12,500 GVWR. Am I correct that with the GCWR combo of 23,500lbs I am under 26,000 so a CDL is not required even though the trailer is over 10k if I read the CDL requirements correctly? How do I register The F350, 11,200 of the truck or total GCWR? I am looking to set myself up as an auto transporter and want to get my ducks in a row. I have been looking at rollbacks to buy and just got my first insurance quote back at $7100. I am wondering if I can save some cash by using the ol F350 with the two car since I was going have a buddy of mine who is out of work run it a couple days a week so I can stay at my current job. He does not have a cdl. I have the ins co running #'s on this instead of a tow truck in hopes to save $. Plus it beats me buying a flatbed at this point in time even though I really want one. If all is successful my plan is to pick up a tractor and 3/4 car trailer. Of course it would be some type of Mack. Maybe an R or Superliner or even a CH. Then maybe build my B61 rollback!
  13. I agree, I think the a,punt of work effort and money invested for the engine swap vs the gain is not worth it. You should be fine as this sounds like its more of a hobby truck than a daily working truck. More importantly, what is the wheelbase on your truck for that rollback and please post pictures. You are building the same thing that I want to do. Old B Mack with a rollback!
  14. I remember that storm too I was around 6 years old at the time. We moved into our new house that summer and the deck off the back was 8' off the ground. We were jumping off the deck into the snow like it was a cushion. Huge snow forts could be found everwhere around the neighborhood. Ah memories.
  15. Also with the massive amount of cars/trucks/etc that write damaged during Sandy, I expected rates on everything to go up. They have to get those millions back somehow.
  16. As someone said before, if they don't want people to download or link the pictures they would brave used a simple JavaScript code to disable the right click function. They didn't so there is no stopping people from using those pictures. I find pictures from my shops website all over the Internet on various sites across the world. I can only guess but in the last 5 years there could be close to 30,000 images on my site I personally photographed, cropped, enhanced, and uploaded. I can guarantee that's more pictures they will ever have posted. Lately I have been putting watermarks on our pictures since I have also found them being used by scammers. Not once did I email the owner of the website (not scammer) and say remove the picture. Get your heads out of your asses!
  17. Paul, Glad to see the chief will allow that. Car/truck guys stick together. I agree once he did his time he should be marched down to the recruiter and join his ass up. That will straighten his ass up and make a man out if him. Teach him to respect and become a productive member of society.
  18. Paul, can you request putting a cover or having the engines wrapped while they are Evedence so they don't get ruined?
  19. hows the inside? any pics of that?
  20. Welcome to the site Mark. I went to Danville about 11 years ago with one of the guys from my shop to buy a restored Tuxedo Black 1971 Nova SS from a guy named Thor and his son Thor. Super nice guys. Nice country down there too. From NJ we took 15/360 out of Richmond on the way down. Nice roads, no real traffic and scenic. On the way back Thor told us to go 58 to 85 N. That seemed to take twice as long with all sorts of traffic and who knows what else. Didn't get back until 3 am. And when we stopped for dinner, we realized Thor didn't leave the keys in the car after he put it on the trailer. Thats my Danville story.
  21. It probably wasnt his first rodeo either with this "friend" in the theft biz. I say they started small, got away with it, then moved to some other small time stuff, still got away with it and this was their "big hit". I assume this was a troubled kid and your Son had issues with him in the past? One of two things will happen, 1. The kid will go to jail, get some help, learn his lesson, or 2. The kid isn't going to learn a damn thing from it, get more ideas while in jail, gets out in a few years with new "contacts" and lives a life of crime. I am sure if they press the two kids, they can find out where the transmission went. They got the motors, you'll get them back too. Lets hope for the best out of this.
  22. I knew it was going to be someone who knew what was there. Sorry to here the scum was family. He's going to get what's coming to him. What a bunch of morons. Did they recover the Muncies?
