  1. I’m selling a Mack SW80 cut off, 12:00-24 tires 1 has sidewall damage (my fault.) Rims are good. 6.75 ratio cr95/96. 20" air wedge brakes with good shoes and drums. 9ft wide. $7k These are tough to find. Selling because I no longer have the truck they were going in.
  2. Do you remember the name of the restaurant where you had the good biscuits? I happen to have been out in Flagstaff about 2 weeks ago and that dining area sure looks familiar.
  3. I did convert one of my E9’s to an air actuated fan clutch. I will tell you the reduction in noise alone is worth the effort. I used a Kysor style clutch and had a machine shop make me up a hub adapter. I also made an adapter to reuse the steel blade fan. Run an air solenoid and some tubing and then plumb in an a/c fan switch and voila. Less noise, cab heat comes much faster, can engage fan manually when running a pto, clutch can be rebuilt when worn. As time allows I plan on changing all my Macks over.
  4. The 460 has its merits but it’s not on the same level as a 15.2L C15. This truck was already equipped with a vendor engine that’s why I’m gonna do the swap this way. Plus, I have yet to find another stateside Mack equipped with a C15 so it makes it even more appealing to me.
  5. I thought I would take you guys along on one of my projects. I’ll warn you now, I don’t get a lot of free time so I will update when I can. Ill start by saying I love my Mack’s and have several that are E9 powered. It’s a great engine but it’s by no means the only great engine. In my line of work I get to drive all sorts of different trucks and some of the CAT engines are very impressive not only in power but durability as well. That being said, I’ve decided to mate the 2 together. Probably about a year and half ago I came across a project truck that I couldn’t pass up. I ended up just adding it into the pile of other unfinished projects. Until now… I’m working on a 2001 CL733 tractor. It’s a 2 owner truck from what I can tell and I bought it in pieces. The man I bought it from had removed the ISX Signature 600 engine because it blew up ( shocking I know). Well it sat in the weeds engineless for a long while until I came along and brought it home. The good: Double frame( no separation) Mack 18 speed Mack air ride (4.17 r) 12-24.5 tires on aluminum Full fenders and headache rack 2 line wet line Double steering box 70k holland fifth wheel No rust The bad: Missing engine Missing full cooler pack Smells like a mouse nest This is about as good as it gets for retrofitting a new engine. Next comes the hunt for an engine.

  7. Here is my version of “redesigning” a Mack and MP engine. In my opinion a CL is already perfect so just need to put a decent engine in.

  9. Just recently had a local outfit have a tandem dump flip over from a broken mack camelback spring. Props to you for keeping it under control 👍🏼. Were your buckets welded? It almost looks like discoloration from welding.
  10. I bet it’s every bit of 40k empty. Rogers makes a mean trailer but they were never too concerned about weight. My CL713 hooked to its 35ton Rogers (non ground bearing) weighs in at 47,070 with driver and half tank of fuel.
  11. Hey blackdog2 what brand/model tire do you have for the 14.00 tires? Roadmaster by Cooper is made in China. I like the closed shoulder but they still wear fast. I just put 12 roadmasters on my crane truck because I never put enough miles on it to wear them out. They always dry rot before I use up the tread. However on my lowboy tractor I did 8 new Conti HSC3 in 12x24.5 because they are a very nice made in Europe tire. That was 3 months ago I paid $580 a tire after all taxes and fees. They last a lot longer than Chinese tires.
  12. I may be misunderstanding you. The reliefs or “poppets” as they are known are there to reduce pressure as you reach the stops. With the front end raised off the ground can you hit the spindle stops by turning the wheel with the engine off? If not then as said above verify your box was centered or you may have a box problem.
  13. You will need to raise the front end of the truck and set your spindle stops to where you desire. Then you will need to reset the reliefs on the steering box or boxes. Then with the front still raised you run the steering stop to stop to set the reliefs for the new spindle stop position. I’m not sure which boxes you have but just google the box number and you will find the procedure to reset the reliefs. Sounds complicated but in reality it’s very easy.
  14. In a non-planetary I believe the sw80 was the heaviest offering. Has 8 spokes and is 9 ft wide. Late models had 20.25” air wedge brakes.
  15. I have good used ones of both types if your in a bind.
  16. Can you clarify where you are measuring EGTS? Pre or post turbo makes a big difference in what is acceptable.
  17. I think the other side of the coin for this is sometimes it takes a bit of “flash” to attract drivers to a company. If you rely on hiring drivers to keep your trucks moving a few bucks for accessories may mean the difference between a truck parked making no money and a truck with wheels turning. Quality drivers are still tough to come by.
  18. Do you have the new or old style gauge cluster?
  19. SW80 is a 80,000 lbs suspension on beams. Its easily identifiable by the 8 spoke hubs.
  20. I was in the same boat looking for an air start tank for my RD. I went to the local propane company and picked through their used tanks until I found the size I needed. Just have to weld on some mounts.

  22. I bought one of my CL’s from them. At the time they would sell you whatever you wanted, but I haven’t been there in years. Very nice people to deal with.
  23. Ironically I was working on this exact model fifth wheel today for a no latch complaint. They can be a real bear to release without the tool or some leverage when on a bench.   24. You can sign me up for a R model kit. I second the motion for a CH/CL kit too.
  25. I am a die hard Mack guy but transmissions are definitely a weak point in Mack’s catalog. Seems like Mack transmissions need about 2x the amount of service and repairs over the life of the trans vs Eaton. That being said, I run all Mack transmissions and love them.
