  1. I thought I'd share the new piece to my Mack collection. Maybe you guys have some more information on this engine model for me as well. I picked up this engine to add to my inventory and it is actually a bit more interesting than I anticipated. By the looks of it I don't believe it has ever been in a truck. As you can see in the picture it has a build date of 8/1976 and the engine serial number is 113. Now some of the parts on the engine are dated 4/1976. It has factory block off plates on the compressor and power steering holes. No pitting on the manifolds and it appears it never had a fan. Were these engines with that early of a build date put in trucks? What does the B stand for in the model number? Side note: its not letting me add images...
  2. I have an empty 25ft flatbed heading from northern nj to Indiana on the 16th of December if somebody needs something transported.
  3. I only use stemco guardian seals anymore. They last a long time. As far as torque here is a standard procedure.
  4. I genuinely enjoy what I do working on trucks. But, every once in a while you take a step back and think "they don't pay me enough for this crap." I couldn't agree more on the European stuff. DAF engines from Paccar are terrible with service information. It's like the black market to get a torque spec. Just for future reference for you just about any machine can be deleted of its emissions equipment. I routinely have exporters come to me before loading stuff up on the boat to its new home. I just did a backhoe for a private customer heading back to South America because he said they can't get def fluid where he's from.
  5. If your leaking at the threads then it may just be return fuel. I have Scheid make all my lines for various trucks. They always fit well. I install the lines in sequence with tightening injectors. Especially if you have a new injector or a new line. By sequence I mean: 1. remove injector hold down cap and then re-install snug 2. install your line and snug your line nut to half torque 3. torque the injector cap 4. torque your line. Its the same procedure for any connector tube style injector.
  6. I never liked the design for the front cover/head/cam plate seal on the series 60. It seems like every one that rolls through the shop is at least damp in that area. I remember the days of doing engines on the ground and I dont miss it lol! I bought my first OTC revolver engine stand and loved it so much I bought a second one. The amount of time you save in handling is immense.
  7. I use a mep005 as my generator too. They are very stout units but they certainly make some noise.
  8. A buddy of mine works for Peterbilt and they recently sent him to a production facility for training. They had a 963 on the line being assembled. Said it makes the other trucks look like toys. It's funny to see the cab looks so small yet it's the same one on class 8 trucks. A double frame isn't good enough so they just stack another frame on top. Very cool trucks.
  9. Just to clarify, does this happen unloaded only or does it happen while the truck has weight on it too?
  10. Next will be a new name. Gender Neutral Scouts of America.
  11. I used the Donaldson mufflers on my CL. $80 bucks a piece right from the dealer. Louder than stock but by no means too loud. I would have to get the parts number from the shop.
  12. A lot of guys silicone the compressor flange to the engine instead of using a gasket. If the silicone blocks the oil drain (or restricts) it causes the compressor crankcase to have too much oil in it and will subsequently push oil past the rings.
  13. I run .093 SS lines on my inline pump with no problems. Lines typically crack from poor clamps/insulators. Be careful not to overtorque the lines. Very clean looks great!
  14. In my experience e6 will always come up better. Both my e9's stay pretty consistent at 4.2 to 4.5 mpg regardless of load. If it's just a hobby truck then skip the fuel mileage and just go e9!!
  15. I had to be persuaded by a few friends to get the tanks painted. I've always been a fan of polished tanks but I thought it might be "too much" for the colors of the truck. I like it though. As far as my plans with the truck, I really don't have any. Drive it down to town to get coffees for the guys . Again thanks for the compliments! Its nice to be around guys who share the same passion.
  16. Well I made a bit more progress today. I got the tanks back from paint and mounted them to the truck. Still have to clean up all the aluminum pieces and get a good coat of paint on the frame. Little by little it's moving along.
  17. Thanks for the kind words. Instead of polishing the tanks I've decided to paint them. They should be back Thursday so I'll get a few "mostly" finished pictures.
  18. Got my truck back from paint today. It was my first time using this shop and I'm very pleased with the results. Some of you may remember but I saved this truck from the scrap yard. It's a long process but it's coming together nice. Tomorrow I have a smoke test then I'm going to pull the tanks and have them painted to match the cab. The paint is all metal flake with a lot of pearl. I'll have more pictures tomorrow but here are a few teasers.
  19. That's what I mean. I have a vee pump and would like an inline. If you have an inline I'll trade my vee pump for your inline pump.
  20. If you have an inline pump available I'd be happy to trade with you. I prefer the inline pumps.
  21. Well I'll let you know in 2 weeks how one of mine comes out. I was in the same boat asking for references and getting quotes. I finally dropped it off for paint on Friday last week. I've seen some really bad paint jobs and wanted to make sure I didn't end up with one. Ultimately I made my decision after checking out his shop and seeing some of the tricks he's done. If your in philly the paint shop is not too far from you. The website is https://www.truckpaintllc.com/ My truck should be ready in about 2 weeks so I'll give you an honest answer.
  22. I've noticed that the vin tags sometime have different information. My 2 Macks only have a vin and model. Others i've seen have a date also. I'm looking at a truck and there is other numbers on the tag that I'm not sure what they mean. Could somebody enlighten me? It says D567.
  23. As a component they are more expensive in its life cycle. It's a trade off for any costs it may save i.e.: tires, driver abuse, inexperienced drivers etc.. for example I install new xy shifters and harnesses every 250k miles in Eaton auto shifts. It will save you a tow. That's an additional $1700 that you would not have to put in a standard trans.
  24. I've seen e6 valve guides loosen and start moving up and down causing a ticking noise. Does it have an American Bosch aka (ambac) injection pump on it?
  25. Sorry if I was unclear. I have nothing bad to say about a series 60. They are great engines for their size. I'm referring to the in-house rebuilt series 60 from Fitzgerald as having issues.
