I drove a 365 hp detriot once that was a low rpm engine, being used to a 2250 rpm i could not belive how weak the thing was. I was coplaining to a guy about how it had no power and he said i did not know how to drive it! well i was a little upset by his worlds so i said well hot shot driver how about a lesson, and he gave me one he said to never shift it over 1500 and and down shift it about 1250 or a little before it may seem like it ain't going to do it but it will. Now i thought about it and what he said so i tryed it and to my suprise that was the only way to get up to speed with it, i was always hitting the gov. before shifting and it was just a dog. The engine pulled better at 1500 then at 1800 why they would make a engine like thiss i don't know but after looking a a hp and touqe chart for the engine i could see that is were the touqe toped out, it made some more hp but the touqe would fall off after that. Now that was not a mack and may not help at all but it did make driving that old truck a little better hope this helps you out.

...yet another reason NOT to re-elect Obama!
oilburner replied to RowdyRebel's topic in Odds and Ends
I feel if obummer gets the election, that the whole election processe it self will be proved a fraued. I all so can see a goverment overthrow or a civil war starting, people are tired of setting back and letting the goverment dry poping them, and that was what the civil war was about not slavery it was taxes and trade, lets just go ahead and get a impeachment started just incase, he has made this country a big joke to all the other countries and they are setting back and laughing at us!! Just my two cents and it ain't worth a dime it's just two pennies, hop i didn't offend anyone but just tired of the bs i have been without work for almost 3 mounths and we need to get the ball rolling. -

beautiful!! nothing like big chrome stacks, right now you have a one stack mack, lol -
right now it's not as good as a b model cat, and they did not have much of a jake, but i had it off road and in the lower gear it held ok but i feel like it could be better, i thougth only one head was working so i unhooked one, nope they were both working, and there is quit the delay before it kicks in and it wont jake under 1300 rpm, so i am thanking it is still the steath jake setup without the pacbrake, because the switch does not interfear withe the jake, low and high can not tell any deffernce.

Does it smoke all the time or just when it cold, does it have blowby it could be low compresion or more injectors.
-
I was looking at it today and the exhaust brake is missing on the truck, i guess someone has already taken it off. But to be honest i have never seen a mack that had much of a jake break, the strongest one i have drove was a old 350 2v with a dynatard and it wasn't much.

e 7 runs rough when you start it even when warm
oilburner replied to oilburner's topic in Engine and Transmission
Well today i checked all the things i could, the oil line and the tem sensor, everything checked ok, i unpluged the econo-vance and the truck ran just fine for about 10 secounds and then it started runing rough and smokeing just like when you frist start it, plug it back up and it instaly smooths right out. what do you all thank when unplugeing the econo-vance it runs just like it does when you frist start it could it just be getting bad, or something eles? -
Thanks everyone i will try it.

So what do i need to do to change it over? can i use the jake heads or do i need to change them to
-
Does anyone know what the diffence in a stealth break and a regular jake is, the 98 454 we have has a steath and it says on the dash for best proformance use at 1800 to 2100, it hardly makes a sound when jakeing and does not seem to hold very good, the 94 we use has a better jake, so what is the deal with the stealth i can't find any info on it.

My favorite non mack would have to be old shakers, especaily a white freightliner cabover with a 1693 cat or a 12v71 and it would have a 13 speed in it!! they look good with the right paint and shinny alcoa wheels!

Know anyone that runs a coal bucket and loosing their job?
oilburner replied to David's topic in Odds and Ends
i will say this much, i do not feel either romney or obama have the countries best intrest at heart, but i have already seen how obama party feels about our country and i feel it is time to give someone eles a try, romney could be even worse if elected, but i would reither take a chance then to let obama get the seat again and keep up his foolishness. -
Know anyone that runs a coal bucket and loosing their job?
oilburner replied to David's topic in Odds and Ends
Shuting down the coal bussiness is very bad for our country, and trying to replace it with natural gas is not the answer. You may say it is cheap and we have alot of it but i have worked in the oil and natural gas my whole life. If we take out the coal plants and start gas powerd plants the price of gas will sky rocket, the same way gas has at the pumps, and this is what the big gas companys want, They have flooded the market with gas just for this reason, to make it cheap and show we have plenty hopeing that this will help the transission from coal, but i am telling you people if coal is replaced with gas it will be way more expensive than coal and small compainies will be booming as well as the big, it will be good for me and people that work in oil and gas, but what about the electric bills, i am telling you guys we need coal. Right now gas is about 3 bucks a cfm 6 years ago when the demand was up it was 12 and 13 bucks for the same amount we were coverd up with work and my heating bill at home was unreal!! Just my two cents, i know it ain't worth a dime, it's just two pennys right!! -
