  1. I remember in 67 Roadway had some R700 mack with cat engines and i think they were the 1674 and yes many DD engines.
  2. I have found when you cant get a air comp build air then remove the discharge line and connect shop air to it.A friend of mine put his cummins in a shop a few years ago for no air.He called me and said they want to sell him a compressor and i told him to have the guy working on it to air it up and check for leaks and i told him i would unload shorty and come down. When i got there they had put a compressor on it and no build air.I ask the mechanic if he tried to air the truck up and he say no because i dont got the fitting. Now the shop had to pay for the comp and when they did get around to making a fitting to air it up they find the braided discharge line full of leaks. So like i have said for years test dont guess.
  3. That thing or i mean that stuff or what ever you see i mean is highly over rated some times.I mean trains jump the rails some times to find out that their in a lot of mud
  4. I think i have hear the sparks hit a puddy of water cause i have hear the sizzling when it went in my ear.
  5. What was the reason for replacing head gaskets and did you have fire ring blowed in one of the gaskets?
  6. I be like JOJO you use some takeoff heads and who knows how wore out they are.And if they are bad the job will have to be done over.On putting on used parts the owner needs to find them and bring them to you.
  7. The rear end and trans sensors can be grounded at the sensor and gauge should read full. But for the engine sensors stay away from them as for as shorting them cause you can do damage to your pocket book.If you want to short circuit the rear end and trans gauge then use a test light and one of them will make the gauge read full.
  8. A friend of mine called me last week for some help.He had install a N14 mechanical engine in one of his dump trucks and when he starts it the engine will idle good but you give it some fuel and it will run away on rpm. When we found it the bees or what ever had built a nest in the return line to the tank and was all it needed was cleaning out.Dirt daubers i should say.
  9. I need to realign here i think. All the egines i have here and have worked on the passed 15 years were Robert Bosch pumps. So i need not comment on a manifold with a Ambac pump.
  10. Dirt Daubber's 10-4 on that. There is here also a small bee that can build a nest inside a 1/4 hose or tube that i have seen.
  11. A E 7 will be the same if its tilted the right way.
  12. God has a plan for him.I dont think he will like all of it.
  13. The world is laughing at the screw ball and he dont even know which room hes in.
  14. If its a robert Bosch then some one may have been adjusting the hi/idle with out compressing the stops and broke them off. This would i think let the hi/idle back down but keep same rack setting. Then it would start gover shut off at a lower RPM but still be fueling same.I think.
  15. I started in 1965 and we repair many things like starters and generators and we replaced the lining on clutchs and brakes. Now its all exchange and i understand why.We also did our own head repairs.
  16. When i went to freightliner a few years latter i did work in fuel room but the was cummins pump and injectors.
  17. The first year i worked for mack here i did clutchs and springs more than any thing and second year i got off of that and got in engine and trans with other things and did alot of injector repairs so was not much chance of me getting in the fuel room as dirty as i was.
  18. A 88 should have the AFC made on top of the governor housing if its a robbert bosch.A 82 or older may have the Amco pump with the limit cylinder on the front of the rack with the reversing relay in the manifold. If its got a reversing relay then to check to see if its messed up just disconnet the line to the cylinder on the front of the pump and it will not limit the rack at all.
  19. But he is saying it builds 35 psi boost. This makes me think its got the fuel turned to it alot.
  20. This should have Robert bosch pump on it.Does it have the AFC control on top of the governor or the air valve in the front of the pump?
  21. My DOT cop friend told me two years ago that states was going to start using fedral reg so he may have been mistaken.
  22. If it holding 38 psi boost at 1500 then fuel pressure is ok and it got more than enough boost.Has this engine ever pulled up to 2100 before and just started this?A maxidyne engine will start to defuel early in the rpm range. What trans has this truck have?
  23. Glass problems with a dump truck is they get broken often and i think the price on the glass would be much higher.Plus its so big and going to catch more rocks.
  24. I almost bought one of them a few years back because it was so cheap and it was a trash truck.I was thinking of putting a dump bed on it but i said no because of all the glass up front and a dump truck would not work out to good.
  25. Start with checking the fuel presssure under load and see if its loosing pressure under load.
