  1. You need to pressure the air to air up against the heads to check the complete syatem now some will tell you thatcant be done but i do it all time .if air leaks passed the vavles just turn engine a littel till the vavle seal and should hold air .Now i am talking about all 6 cyl. engines but should work on v8 engine as well.. I use 25psi and you will get a ideal what is going on.I do not remember where the air compressor gets it intahe air so look there and some air diers will let air leak thru them on the purge vavle when it is discharged. 2. If the oil filter has 2 small oil lines the it will take a 500 luberfider and if it has 1 small line and 2 big lines the mack #is a 236gb311a
  3. sandblast and install and leve along because the truck want care and a week after you want know.Make it simple is what I say .no power coat. Glenn Akers
  4. Make sure the dust cover is not being left off of the bottom.I am a truck mechanic and I can tell you that a lot of people leve it off and the dirt will eat a clutch and I know some of you know what I am saying. There ant noting wrong with that type of clutch but why change form the old style to one that cost so much. Glenn Akers
  5. Hi I am a long time truck mechanic and I have found out that if you ask enough people that same thing you will hear what you think is real or what you want to hear. There are alot of factors in this question and you will have to find out what model engine what turbo and is it still set to specs and then some one out here can look it up in a mack tune up book and tell you.So many people have set the fuel up on their pumps and you know that any one that has overhauled your engine is not going to set the fuel up and put warranty on it at the same time. And I know that there is truck drivers out ther that will not agree with me. my 2 cents worth Glenn Akers I forgot to tell you that I have a 315 hp with a air /air cooler on the front that will build 30psi but it would not dothat all day under a load without a burnt piston but I have set the fuel up on it. Glenn Akers
  6. Thanks for telling me what that big end was I have been a truck mechanic for 41 yrs and that is a new word for me I know here in the US we tell the parts depart, well need rod brgs. and they know. Glenn Akers
  7. Yes just dont get in a hurry and let the rpm come down and dont put your foot on the clutch. you will get good as time goes by. Glenn Akers
  8. Do not set fuel any more than a 350 HP because you will burn pistons and can spin brgs in bottom end.The bottom is weak when you start making too much power.I know you are going to get a lot of advice on more fuel but I started working on macks in 1965 and I have seen a lot of engines spin brgs because too much power ortoo much virbrations. The extra power is not worth it.Leve it set to specs and you can stay in it all day and not hurt it. Glenn Akers
  9. I know what you are talking about. I have been there and found out that you are only training the people who what you to buy there parts and install them and then get you to stand behind the job and then dont whant to pay. Then the court will agree with you that they do need to pay you and that is all they cane do far you. Bill clintin showed us how to handle the court.
  10. I never did see one of them jake brakes on a DT.May be a new deal. But they ant big enough to be too powerful. Glenn Akers
  11. In my B you would not be able to hear a radio. but the radio was a in the roof mount where you whant it and it had the antania on top that wkent thru the roof and the radio was held up by the antana and the spear was in side the radio so you want it close to you head to hear and then you would hit a bump in the road and now you head has sores .That is on a B I wolked for the Tulsa Mack in the mid 60s and have installed alot of then on new trucks the B was still in production when I started out as a mechanic. Glenn Akers
  12. That is a common ideal that I have see and told by truck driver for my 42 years of working on trucks that it will pull on the rear only. It pulls on bothl rear equaly because it has a power divider with a air lock or not. Glenn
  13. On a conv. it will be at the bottom of the flywheel houing on the flywheel and on a cab over it may be on top of the flywheel housing andif it is a latter engine it will be on front damper. glenn
