  1. different magnetic properties of cast iron relating to aluminium That is what i am wondering about.
  2. Yes we made sure the sensor drilled hole was located in same spot on both housings. The one nonVMAC engine or i have two that has the RPM sensor on the left side counting flywheel teeth. We have changed sensors from one truck to the other and did remove sensor and the sensor is looking at 6 slots in the flywheel. No one here at mack knows if they used a cast iron flywheel or not on a VMAC but that is all that is left that i can think of.I put a new engine wire harness on also.We set the sensor closter and farther away from the flywheel and same code. The engine will run with that sensor connected or not with no change in the sound.
  3. Does anyone of you ever remember seeing a VMAC 2 with a cast iron flywheel housing?I replaced a aluminum housing with a cast iron housing from a non VMAC engine and now i dont get a RPM/TDC reading and have a code of 32 190 FMI 2.
  4. You cant get too many grounds on a truck.
  5. Joey back when i was still working a man brings his older freightliner in the shop for a problem but the tech that draws the job did not know the cab had been changed to a from a newer truck. The tech had over a hour standing there looking at his laptop that was connected to a dead diag plug that was dead and not connected to anything.I was not there but some say he got around to raising the hood to find a old cummins under there.
  6. Then some one has removed it.
  7. It would help you to find it if you would make you a fitting from PVC pipe and pressure from turbo to the heads with about 25 or more psi.To pressure against the heads you need a pressure gauge and turn the engine slow untill your gauge reaches max pressure> other wise we will be guessing. It could be a crack in the air/air cooler of a gasket leaking on the intake manifold.
  8. Dont forget that these engine can get a bad injector that will hang in full fuel with out the injector harness connected. They can sound like a miss but will be over fueling that cyl.You can loosen that line and make it sound better but in reality its missing. The temp gun can tell you alot. The engines that i found this on would only do it when their hot.On engine i had would still try to run with the turned off. This dont sound to be the trouble but dont forget.
  9. 500_700_and_900_series_speedometers.pdf (ametekvis.com) This should help you
  10. Also another thing could be a factor on a rough idle is if the injectors were not all matching in flow.Or dirt got in the lines when being installed. It would not be the first time.
  11. It could have some water in the oil making some steam
  12. I would like to see the man that can straighten that fender.
  13. I had a 96 RD that had a air fan
  14. Try taking the dnytard switch off
  15. You mean a 673 mack engine because a 671 is a detroit diesel
  16. 60 series had pistons to debond also.
  17. Cummins did the same thing and it was all steel. The piston was almost as tall as it was wide.
  18. Aluminum skirt for less scuffing and steel crown or top for more heat and cracking resisiting
  19. Here is the way to find the leak.Wash it and get the oil off of the back of it.Run engine till its hot as you can get it and at about 1500 rpm hold your hand over th bottom of the blow/by tube and build some crank case pressure.Dont hold your hand over the tube too long but long enough to build some pressure.get under it with a good light and look for the leak.Wash it down again with brake clean and blow it dry and look some more till you find were its coming from.If it the flywheel housing to block leaking then you will see it from the out side.If its the pan gasket then you can see it from the bottom. The isolated pan uses a shoulder bolt and is a different size thread.
  20. I at one time had a oil tank that i could put pressure to and watch.I dont think you will find it with air.The flywheel housing is a wet housing and if the plug was leaking it would be inside but in front of the rear seal.I did not think you had the engine out so that will not be your problem. The main brg clearance of .001 dont sound right because it should have more. Also there is three different shape gaskets for different engines for the oil filter housing mounting pad on the side of the block.Have you had this off?
  21. The rear oil galley plug in the block under the flywheel housing has not been taken out and forgot about has it?
  22. Are you sure that there is no diesel fuel in the oil?
  23. If its got a turbo installed i would leave them off.
  24. I have mechanic engine that i just rebuilt i would like to put in but i would miss the cruze and engine protection if i did that.
