  1. This is not related to your problem but had a 18 speed that had a switch on the dash that would put the hi/low range in neutral for pto work.I have never seen one untill i found this truck.
  2. On most taper brgs you will find that the inter race turns some thru its life. This is something that lets the brg last longer. On a eaton trans the counter brgs are a slip fit when new just like on a axle.
  3. Any diesel needs the fuel pressure tested under load.I have a tee i made for putting inline before the injection pump that i made in the mid sixtes and still have it.I miss placed it a few times but always find it and yes a #4 hose will connect to it and you connect it to a wiper arm.I have tee i made also that will go in some of the suppy lines between the filters and supply line with a vacumin gauge connected to it.If you have a power problem that fiest thing i use and some times it will take a few miles under load to slow you something that cant be seen by just running the engine up.
  4. About 3or 4 years ago we was haul asphalt toa new bank building here in Town.I was first truck to the lay down machine and the operator told me if some one ask you tell them you work direct for our company.I unload and start around the building to leave and a manwalks out and stops me.He ask what local i belong to.I say something and dont remember what but he said you need to not come back and by that time he was in my face. Some one else came out and said something and he leaves. So that was all that was said and we worked their maybe 3 days but they were all out of town contractors and he is going to thow me out of my town.I carry a can of wasp and hornet spray i have been wanting to try out.And if they like that i have something else i know he will like better. After that that leaves a brown taste in my mouth.I belonged to the teamsters for 6 years when i work at the old dealer and i never seen things like i see now.
  5. Sounds like its been hit hard so if i had to do any checking i would pull clutch back and dial indicate the flywheel both ways and that can be done with trans still in.If it ok then pull front damper off and dial indicate the crank for run out It may be bent.Sounds to me like your being jert around by some of the repairs.Who would replacea trans for a virbation any way.Only way a trans can virbate is if front or rear shaft is bent. Now some people get a virbration and a gear growl mixed up and they are not the same.
  6. Ifthe enginehas had a overhaul then who knows it may have some pistons mismatched.
  7. Two week ins ago i saw him go thru Tulsa and he was in a hurry.
  8. Here we have or did have two clutch rebuilders and they would balance their flywheels after grinding them.To me too many flywheels are turned that dont need to be.I had one that was ground wrong and it would shake the ground it set on.I have seen more than one input shaft twisted or bent also. Also make sure the engine mounts are good and not tighten too much
  9. Hauling coal and burning coal.
  10. I watched it when in Tulsa back in 1976
  11. Locate a brake shop and have them relined.
  12. I got one by buying a new shaft.
  13. Dont forget about the insurance on a old truck. Some companys will not cover them.
  14. The three speed had a different power divider that was not like the single speed rears. It did not have much problems if the grease was changed often.C H trans. had many of them plus they were common here in the 60s and 70s.Also some may have seen this but alot of truckers that had a single speed eaton tandem would install a two speed in the rear housing and use it for a short time to get a 200 RPM split by dropping it into low. This would eat the power divider if used very long time.

  18. You need to call Rob Swallow and ask him about what he has done with his.
  19. Well said David.
  20. Terry i cant remember what they called it but it had 18 head bolts instead of 20 and it was with out piston coolers.
  21. Iam forgetting bad but i think the first END with a turbo was a 205 hp and i know it did not have piston coolers and i was thinking its wrist pin was the small pin.I was working at mack when the ENDT673B and C came out and it did have the large wrist pin and piston coolers and was same block as the maxidyne that came along next year.It had differnt injection pump and the fire ring in the head gasket.
  22. The ENDT673c was a 250hp but he is saying END so i dont know about thm but i can remember the END some had a oil cooler and full flow oil filter and the ones before that did not have that.
  23. happy birthday rick
  24. It sure is easy to replace with a Mechanical E 7 and if engine is done right they will work along beside of a 425 cat and last many miles with good fuel mileage with less weight.I have built two of them from a 300.Using a 400/427 cylinder kits injectors and turbo with pump maxed and timing set two degrees faster.
  25. He wants to know what model trans.
