  1. First of all is no one with out looking and driving it can tell you whats wrong ,but if you want to set the steering box there was two different boxes. One has a nut on the back side that covers a adjusting screw and the other has shims on the adjusting screw. When you adjust it the box has to be in its center of travel. Also there is brgs in the shaft coming up to the steering wheel. Also there is things other than that that needs checked.
  2. The magnum is not that way.Its got same pistons as a BC 3 The NTA engines had a low compression piston and if it as 45 degrees or lower you had to use starting fluid.
  3. The 400 magnum CPL 695 was a small cam and it was away of cummins to sell a rebuilt engine using the small cam block that they had so many of from trade ins on Big Cam engines. It had all of the components of a Big Cam 3.Low oil pressure and all.The lastest lub system and did a good job.
  4. The dealer you were at should know that info.
  5. I need to back up on a statement of mine bout the flipping the top two on a RTO14613.I dont remenber if i have seen it done or not. If it can be done its still not a good trans.
  6. You are talking now about a RTLO being a double OD.A RTO is only a single OD.
  7. This can be done with a 10 speed or 15 speed also and maybe not after you get into the 713 back box trans or a 715 back box trans.I think on the RTO 15713 the gear were the snap ring holds it on is different.
  8. On a RTO 9513 12513 14613 both will change out.If you saying the gear is made on the shaft it is not.
  9. The RTLO has a od in front box already. It has two over drives as final ratios but a RTO can be changed to a RTOO but has messed up splits. To do that its got to have the top two fliped including the counter shaft gears. When you do that you now have three od ratios. The difference in a RTO and RTLO is one has the od in the rear box and the other has the od in the front box.
  10. You flip the top two gears in the main box but again its a messed up on splits.I have seen it done and i know others have to but again its not the same as a rreal RTOO.I have flip many top two gears on a ten speed but ever one hates their self after it done.Back years ago when guys wasup dating their engine with turbos now they wanted a little more speedwith the 4:11 ratio rears so this was what so many tryed. The rear box is left along.
  11. If this is on air bags at rear axles then set the ride height to mack specs and not what looks good, what you hear on the radio is not always right.
  12. That looks like the brand name of Riker that so many used back years ago.
  13. I never drove back then but remenber drivers talking about theflame. Most talked about settingthe fuelup a little at a time till they could get asix inche cone and no more. Now it would be a two foot of flames if they could.I tell my son abou tthe old trucks that would come by the interstate blowing smoke and he cant believe they had them.I worked next to I44 here and i could tell if it was a 220 cummins or a DD or mack. There was no cats then. The cat dealer here had a white with a cat engine in it but i think they installed it. The reason i like the quite muffletrs is cause i cant hear with out hearing aids and all they do for me is make what i dont unterstand louder.
  14. The new muffler us a hi/temp grease in their brgs.I used a pair of noise breakers i think made by walker on my DD and they were so quite that you could hear you self thinking. The new freightliners at that time used them and i sure did like them.Years ago guys would install a short ricker muffler and as much stack as you could get on top which made a good sound.A old trick old timers used years back was throw all of their old flash light battiers down in the muffler and i guess that would burn them out.
  15. I like a muffler that you can't hear the engine running. That way you can hear your grand kids some day plus the diesel cops can't hear it in town.
  16. I installed a air assist control on mine cause my knee is bad anyway then i grease the throw out brg more offten than normal.
  17. I saw a brinks truck and trailer maybe 15 years ago.It came in the shop for some repairs and I got the job. I went out and drove the tractor into the shop and got out and closed the drivers door behind me. I did not know it but the door locks ever time it is closed. We had to wait till the driver came back to open the door. This was a KW.
  18. I know what milling is.Its a clutch killer.
  19. If it will crank like it will not turn over or want start? If it turns over good and starts on starting fuild then you may have a drain back of fuel or low voltage to the ecm if its a Vmac.Either thing is not easy to find .If the starter is pulling too much amperage or the battery is weak it can have low volts.
  20. Yes your right.
  21. Another ideal about the piston cooler,It may have been aimed at some time but that would be with the piston out.It would be easy if the cooler is still in the block to get bent bythe rod when installing the piston.
  22. I have set the fuel up on many engines in my younger days but most of them knew how to take care of it. But my question is all who wants more power always say I will only use it sparely but I say why in the first place because when you get tired and sleepy your going to mash on it till you get home. I do.
  23. It would not take much more over fuel to do this on a alummin high compression piston like that engine has.I remenber seeing the photos he posted before and it was burning on top maybefrom a crack so thats from over fuel or timing. If this is what it is i would say that it should have been easy to find before it went down by cut the fuel off each cylinder to cut the fuel knock back.
  24. It would sure be good to know if the pump shop just repaired the governor and did not calibrate the pumpor or if they did all of the pump plus the calibration. If # 5 was over fueling due to bad calibration then this may follow you around for a longtime.years a go i saw a 711 do this for maybe 5 times before the pump was checked and repaired.
  25. Also have you changed the piston cooler nozzle? It could be stopped up or bent.I always pull them out before the piston comes out.The rod may miss it coming out but can hit it going back in.
