That is true but when I posted I was thinking he had a bad trans and did not give him sound advice as Teamstergrrrl did.Like she said why change it anyway.run it for awhile if it good and you will get use to it.On a 200 mile trip flat or hills the 5 speed will save you some time saying you don't recalubrate the governor on the pump.But If your 5 spped is bad a 10 speed will work but you will be geared same on top end.

That's the way it works.No one can tell you until you do some test.I know some people claim to know it all but there is more than one thing that could be going on.You check one thing and go on to something else before you start buying parts.

Use a air regulatoe and connect to the tube that comes off of the turbo going to air air cooler.You will have to turn the engine slow until you find a place that enough valves are closed to hold air pressure and this way you air check more places for leaks.Some times you find intake manifold gaskets leaking as well as the hose going to the air compressor.Also remove exhaust and intake hoses from the yurbo and with a go strong light look at the fins on tge wheels for damage.Any damage of the fines can drop the boost plus its can do damage to the engine.

You say you have checked for boost leaks but again it needs checked with air pressure with all of the plumbing with it so you can look for a blown hose some were.Do that with about 25 psi.

I just looked in three tune up manuals and one was for a 91 and one 93 and the other was for a 95 year.The boost is posted from 20 psi to 32 psi depending on hich year so 21 would be on the low side.A friend of mine has a 94 400 which was running about 21 or 22 psi.We traded turbos from a 427 HP and gained I think to 29 psi but it had more smoke at low end than the 400 turbo.It did not pull any different.

That is what a friend of mine that still works at freightliner told me.

To check fuel pressure it should be done under a load.I have seen many problems with fuel pressure and found years ago to check under a load this way you are checking for restictions in the lines as well the condition of the filter.I always connect a 10 ft hose to the gauge and tie it to a wiper arm and take it down the road then pull it down with the brakes.If the pressure drops more than 5 psi that means it cant get enough fuel to the injection pump or were ever your testing it from.When you check the pressure sitting still no load you are only testing the pump and over flow valve but not any thing else. Yes I have seen the valve go bad and some times you open it up and find the spring is broken.Way to test it is if the pressure is low sitting still use some vice grips and pinch the return line to the tank some but not all the way shut then the pressure should come up more.This is telling you your supply pump can pump more if it had a way of holding it from going to tank.
