I saw a thing on facebook the other day that I would post here if I could find it again, but it pretty much said "you want to leave your country because it sucks, women are treated worse than aminals there, the oppressive laws stifle your very existance, you can't do anything without fear of being killed- by the 'religion of peace'- and you want to come to America and make it exactly like the shithole place you're trying to get away from?" As Pete would say, "that don't make no sense!"

I had that 36 hour flu last April- except it lasted a week and a half. I did stop smoking then though, haven't smoked since. On the down side, I have gained about 250 pounds since then.

I once read an article somewhere about unsafe bridges in America, this was probably in the '80's, maybe 90's, and the Francis Scott Key Bridge was named as one of the worst. I crossed it pretty regularly at the time because we loaded at Bethlehem Steel in Sparrows Point all the time. I thought about that article every time I crossed that bridge, and still do. Speaking of bridges, I went to Boston the night the Mianus River bridge collapsed in Greenwich, Connecticut but I went up 81 and 84 that night instead of up 95. I started hearing about it on the CB when I was around Newburgh, N.Y. best I can remember. Two of Dick Harris' trucks- Harris Trucking, out of Lynchburg- were running together that night, and the first one made it across and the bridge fell before the second one crossed. He got stopped OK, but still it was a close call,eh? Which reminds me of the late Oliver Davis, a.k.a. "shoeshine boy". We were running up rt. 35 together in the 80's and I asked him if he had ever crossed the old bridge from Point Pleasant, W.V. to Gallipolis, Oh. that fell in 1968. He said "$#!t, I was two trucks from getting on that son of a bitch when it fell!"

I like that drill rig- by the way, you can draw pretty good! I saw a red and white White/GMC cabover in Roanoke. ....where I picked up a load of steel ...going to Largo,Md, where I saw a colorful mixer behind me. ...and then another one. Folks lined up on 66 east as far as you can see, trying to get to D.C. I was going west trying to get away as fast as I could. Then I took a load to Knoxville on a Conestoga, and reloaded some machines in McMinnville going back to Lynchburg, but I have no photographic evidence of this. Then I had to go to Petersburg and get a load of beams that had to be tarped Thursday, with the wind blowing like crazy. I had an 11:30 appointment to unload in Ambridge, Pa. Friday, so when I came out of the tunnel on the turnpike and everything was snow covered, and 32 degrees- it was in the 60's when I was tarping in the wind- I decided to pull into the Somerset Service Plaza and get something to eat and call it a day. But, there was nowhere to park, so I had to keep on riding. I pulled off here where the vehicles from the big pile-up that Jumper and Son were in last year were parked. There was nothing there to eat but beany-weinies, crackers, and water. That reminds me, I need to re-stock. When I got to Ambridge the next morning I had to untarp in this- Note the crack in the windshield- I got the first CVSA sticker i've had since I drove the Peterbilt to Payallup, Wa. in what, '09? I got another one just a couple of weeks ago in N.C, now i'll probably have to have a new windshield because the crack's getting bigger. Seen a man clearing snow off a trailer with a gas operated snow removal machine in Ambridge. Saw the sun coming up from Afton Mountain Saturday morning. I had just enough fuel to make it back.

Luke, Maryland- hauled pulpwood there many times. There's a bad hill on rt. 135 coming into Luke, because it's pretty much straight- no 20 mile an hour turns to slow down for, and folks would tend to go too fast. Then they'd get to the bottom and there was a 90 degree turn, or slam into the side of the mountain. There was lots of pictures of truck crashes that happened there in the scale house at Westvaco. You had to go past 135 to get to the scales, then past it again and make a right into the paper mill. The scale man warned us every time "whatever you do, do not turn on 135!" -Looks like a lot more crosses since you were there Billy. I never went that way, I always said that after I got unloaded at the paper mill I was going to go up that hill just to check it out, but I never did. Greendash said he's been down it a few times.

I took some pipes up on some mountain near Westernport, Md. I had to wait on the other two trucks to get unloaded because we were all going to Galv-Tech in Pittsburgh to load, and they had never been there before. We were way less than a mile away from where we turned onto rt. 36 from rt. 135 when we got to the job site, but we had to go about 15 miles around the mountain to get there because there was no way to get there through Westernport. I was in third gear I think, in the low side getting up one of the hills getting in there.

...and that fire is STILL burning, just what did he put on that brush pile to get that fire going?..been raining for two days now! Cabover KW on 501 Monday. Saw a nice looking Falcon on I-81 in Harrisonburg the other day. Saw a couple of big Mack trucks in Orange, Va. ...and, I saw a girl on the side of the road indicating to me that she would show me her boobage if I blew the horn, but I didn't have time.

Saw these today on the Lynchburg paper archives page- I love looking at this old stuff. http://www.newsadvance.com/news/local/from-the-archives-roads-and-highways/collection_cccdb0f4-dd86-11e6-8a52-b7b47d1f5324.html Wow, who realized that there are over 18,000 BMT members now?!! Not me. What if everybody sent Superdog ten dollars? If they wanted to of course, I know just saying this pisses some people off, i've said it before and felt the wrath of a few, but look at the potential strength in numbers. This was pretty neat, an old International headed west on U.S. 460- this is where the 4 lane ended between Lynchburg and Appomattox. Looks like it's just west of Thomas Terrace. And this dozer in Lynchburg- the caption- which I could not copy for some reason- said it went too far over the bank and was stuck. Isn't that a Euclid dozer? ...and my favorite picture, this Diamond T rolling coal- ...and this picture is from 1962 I think- they were making rt. 460 4 lanes from Lynchburg to Appomattox. This picture was taken from about where F.L.Moore and Sons is today, looking to the west. Today's google earth image from rt. 460 just east of the shop, looking to the west- the driveway into F.L.M. is up there where that pole is, where the turning lane ends.

Ah-hah!..that didn't take too long- here's a picture of the engine- I have a picture of everything somewhere, but that's a problem in itself. I'd guess I have 5,000 or more pictures saved on this computer, and sometimes it takes a long time to find the one i'm looking for. ...and I have one of the interior-

That would be a great place for it, the museum that is. I hope it doesn't end up rusting away somewhere or being scrapped, that would be a real shame.
