We probably should have filled up before we got to Connecticut. We did get to Sam the Clam's yesterday for whole belly clams, but we had to leave early because the three teenagers who were dog sitting let Roman bolt out of the door and disappear into the woods, no doubt looking for me. He hates to be left. So he's lost in the woods somewhere in Connecticut, where he doesn't know anybody. We looked and called from 7:30 until 10:30 when he came out of the woods and ran to Zina. I was out walking the streets and calling him, pretty much as lost as he was. The great thing was all the people, lots of people in that neighborhood, Zina's friends, animal control, everybody was looking for him. The kid who let him get away felt terrible and needless to say I was highly pissed but I told him things happen, we're just thankful he found his way back and was safe and sound. These are the whole belly clams- I went with the fish and chips myself.

We're in Southington CT. right now. We're going to see Zina's dad and some more of her family while we're here, her father is 90 years old. Gets around good though. But the other thing she always does when we come up here is go to "Sam the Clam's" for whole belly clams, she loves them. We'll leave here Wednesday and head on to Macungie.

Sometimes you need to drive long ways to see a Mack truck

Those mirrors in the Mosques- that's just amazing! The whole building is amazing! -
He saw me in Oklahoma one time but I didn't see him. That's as close as I ever came to meeting him, but I agree totally with what you said about just reading his posts. He was a good man.

A little diesel fuel will take care of them. I mean, that's what I've heard...

MACUNGIE 2024/BMT THURSDAY NIGHT GATHERING
other dog replied to 1958 F.W.D.'s topic in Odds and Ends
So, I have a question, if it's ok to ask a question. Let's say somebody was going to Macungie and they didn't know the Allentown area very well- is there a restaurant in particular they should try, or something to see that they just shouldn't leave without seeing first? Besides the the world's greatest antique truck show I mean. -

No, but you "SEEMED" to be. 🤣 -
I know everybody's tired of hearing about the big green truck that didn't run. So yesterday I drove the old Ford up to the dumpster site and to Sheetz to get some non-ethanol gas for the lawn mower. It was the first time it had even been started since the last time, and it fired right up and ran like a clock. I even washed it, it was started to get the brown moldy looking crud on it, from being parked by the trees I guess. Probably the cleanest it's been in a year. The red paint is pretty faded too, and that's supposed to be half decent paint- Timmy painted Chief's Freightliner with it. The white stripes on the other hand still look pretty good - better than the red. And I painted them myself with Rust-Oleum spray paint. Maybe I should paint the big green International with Rust-Oleum. I took the Zinamobile over to the Winfall car wash and had it washed because they detail the interior for you too. We're going to drive it to Macungie so we wanted it clean.

It is, those were great times and great people. Everybody seemed to be there. I remember when Vlad was there, I think that was the first time me and Zina were there. And maybe the last time. -

Thank you Vlad, those are just some fantastic pictures! Did you take those with a camera or your phone? If you took all those with your phone, that's the kind of phone I want. -

I already looked into getting a Twin Peaks franchise in beautiful downtown Spout Spring, but since I already bought an old truck I can no longer afford to. But if it weren't for that... Here's all the waitresses from the Winfall Twin Peaks at their annual photoshoot. I just happened to be passing by and took a drive-by picture, I didn't have time to stop. -

True that! Zina called the motel in Fogelsville to inquire about another night because we're going to Connecticut to see her Dad again and they were completely booked. Probably a lot more people are going because of the ATHS convention in York the weekend before. -
Yes sir, it's the little things like this that I don't mind doing, and like doing. The whole "truck runs and sounds great, I'd drive it anywhere" like I was told by the seller and found to be untrue, and taking a month to get it running, not so much. Like Jeff said, "no wonder he wanted to deliver that truck- he didn't want you to call him when you were sitting on the side of the road somewhere trying to drive it home". I bet he was happy as could be that he managed to keep it running long enough to get it off the trailer. We drove it around the block again yesterday.

I got the last 2 lights done. Had to drill all 4 screws out, but they look a little better now. I didn't have a good "before" picture for comparison.

They need a Twin Peaks in Macungie. And a Twin Peaks in Hellertown, and a Twin Peaks in Spout Spring. Fun fact of the day- I just googled Twin Peaks franchises and a typical Twin Peaks restaurant generally makes about $1 million more per year than a Hooters restaurant! Wow! -
Working on some little things. I painted the gladhands and put new seals in them. The old ones were hard, cracked, and dry rotted. And I got 3 out of 5 cab marker lights of and painted the base with some chrome paint. I'm gonna try to get the other 2 tomorrow. I had to drill the heads off of 4 of the screws I got out today because they were stripped.

Vicki from Florida will be with me and Zina, but Bob from Nevada doesn't get in until 9:30 and we have to pick him up at the airport, and Belle, Roman, and Mack have to be somewhere, so I don't know if we can even go. Roman has terrible separation anxiety. -
Funny you should say that. I went to the Winfall Walmart store today and saw this girl sitting in a car in the parking lot right next to me when I came out carrying my 12 pack of PBR. She said "excuse me sir, but would you happen to have a set of jumper cables? My car won't start- I'll make it worth your while if you jump me!" I said " yes, as a matter of fact I do, but I don't have time to jump you. I have to get home before my PBR gets hot!"

I finished putting the seat belts in today. They're just lap belts and they're not mounted exactly like they're supposed to be but they're probably better than nothing.
-
I changed it a little bit today- this IH emblem was painted solid silver at first, but I spray painted it black and then put some reflector tape on it. It's not the "official" color but I tried to paint it first with a little artist's brush and the more I painted the worse it looked 🤣. But I like this, looks pretty good I think. I'm installing seat belts in it too. They're not exactly like they're supposed to be either, but I've just gotten so used to wearing a seat belt I'm putting them in. I just have to go back to the hardware store tomorrow and get a couple of longer bolts. Then I'm going to start trying to get the cab marker lights off so I can paint them with some canned chrome. The heads of some of the screws are stripped, so I might have to drill or dremel-ize them off then hope I can get them out with vise grips.

Nice pictures Vlad, thank you! -
Thanks, I was on old Internationaltrucks.com, they have a lot of parts too. Never looked for gearshift knobs, but I don't particularly like the one that's on it. My shift pattern is like this- The seller said it had an overdrive transmission, but I don't think it is. I looked at brochures and spec. sheets for this particular model truck and it did not even list any overdrive transmission as an option. I know that doesn't mean it hasn't been swapped out sometime in the last 60 years, but I don't think it has.
