  1. Uhh, yeah, I'd say you did! 🤣 I'm going to try to pull the top off the carburetor without destroying anything and take a look too.
  2. I went ahead and ordered the rubber to go under the tank straps when I ordered the tank. I looked in the gas hole with a flashlight and I could see all these dark blobs "swimming" around on the bottom of the tank. I poked them with a stick- a clean stick, I didn't want to contaminate anything- to see what happened and they would kind of break a part. The sample in the aluminum pan didn't come from the very bottom either, I just loosened the plug on the end and let it drip in the pan. I never saw such a change as that gas made overnight. So obviously there was no rust, it had to be algae. The pick-up tube lacked about 4 inches from reaching the bottom of the tank, so that would leave a lot of gas in the tank, maybe that had something to do with it. I probably could have put that tank right back on it after I cleaned it out with the acid and been fine, but we decided to just keep the new one and put it on when it gets here.
  3. I think it is a Red Ryder, I bought it at Walmart to scare away all the feral cats that used to be lurking around at the old house. Then neighbors moved in next door.
  4. I did it, but I cheated a little. I only had a little bit of trash to burn, and it never got hot enough to melt the jug. So I shot a hole in it with a BB gun.
  5. I ordered 2 quarts of the sealer in the morning, had to get 2 because one would do up to a 25 gallon tank. I didn't know how big the tank was, but I knew it was more than 25 gallons. When I tried to cancel the order that same night they said they would try but the order had already been processed. When I looked this morning it had already been shipped, so I'll just ship it right back when it gets here. Ordered it from Amazon.
  6. Oh, I forgot- turns out the tank I took off was aluminum too. I just assumed it was steel, because he was talking about the rust in the old tank, and the fact that it was painted black. But it's aluminum, it was so light when I drained it and took it off I was thinking I had gained some super powers, but no, I have not.
  7. I think I'll try that- need to put more beer in the cooler first.
  8. Yes, I remember that too. If you- I mean if he had ran across the yard to the picnic table and grabbed a beer out of his cooler it would have been all good.
  9. Gallon no. 2 disposed of, set a full jug in the barrel, put a small bag of trash in alongside it, poured a little more gas in, lit it, and this. No big boom, no big suplosions, just a fire. I won't have much trouble disposing of that gas. No wonder the truck wouldn't run.
  10. The latest update- I went up to my former place of employment this morning, F.L.Moore and Sons, then stopped by Thompson Trucking, and got all the empty plastic jugs I could find. So I got all of the gas jugged that was in the 5 gallon buckets and the tub. Still need to dispose of it, but now it'll be a little easier. I could just burn it with the trash, I put one of those jugs in the burn barrel today, put some trash and weeds around it, poured a little more gas in, lit a piece of paper and threw it in. Then I got a beer out of the cooler that's been sitting there since Saturday, still has ice in it, and sat down at the picnic table across the yard. I was expecting maybe not a huge explosion when the jug of gas melted and caught fire, but at least a huge fireball. Nope...pretty much nothing. Just a "phsewwe" and the fire got a little bigger. Not sure if I spelled "phsewwe" right by the way.
  11. I think you're right, I thought about that too. Maybe they have an old tank in the junk pile up at FLM I can get.
  12. Here's one for you Vlad.
  13. Yes, it only pulled from that passenger side tank to begin with. 60 gallons will get me up the road a little ways anyway. And I guess I could put the tank I just cleaned on the driver side if I really wanted to fool with it.
  14. You talked me into it- new tank, done with it! I went out and measured the tank and this is pretty much the exact same size. The tank on the driver side is steel, so we can just paint it. I ordered this and cancelled the sealer. Looks like the same tank you got.
  15. Oh, here's the latest latest update, what I came here to post-
  16. Wow! Yeah, I didn't even know where to look, I just googled "replacement fuel tanks" or something. I don't know where he got this tank from that's on it now.
  17. Yes, he put a tank on it that had only had diesel in it, because he was having trouble with rust in the original gas tank. Said it was all fixed now. Imagine that! I guess I don't have rust problems anymore, I have sludge problems! 🤣
  18. I thought about that, I looked online this morning, didn't really see anything close to what I've got.
  19. That's true about the aluminum pan, I didn't even think it looked that bad last night, and I couldn't believe it this morning. It didn't even look like gas anymore. It has water or something in it. And that sample didn't even come from the very bottom of the tank, when I got it off and tilted it up all kinds of nasty looking, filthy, dirty, horrible, disgusting stuff was coming out of the hole 🤣
  20. I used the aluminum brightener, and it seemed to work pretty good, but i'm going to do it again. I ordered the sealer and it won't be here for a week, so I have time. I can still see black gunk stuck in the bottom of the tank. I didn't leave the acid in it for any length of time, I just poured it in, sloshed it around as best I could, took all the plugs out and started spraying.
  21. Here's the latest update Had a bit more gas in it than I thought.
  22. Here's the latest update- I drained some gas out of it last night. Put it in this new clean aluminum pan. After sitting on the porch overnight, covered and untouched, it looked like this this morning. So yeah, I have issues. I'm going to go drain it now and try to get it off. Here's the filter I took off the other day, looks like more gunk has settled in it. I talked to Brayden Tucker, who buys, sells, deals, and restores old trucks about cleaning and sealing the tank. He said the best thing he had found was the acid like you spray on aluminum, the brightener, I forgot what you call it. He said to pour some of that in it then pressure wash the crap out of it, let it dry good, then put the sealer in.
  23. This is about where I'm at now. I'm going to end up taking the tank off, if I can. I started it today to turn it around and same as yesterday before I changed the filters- it would not run at all unless I sat in it with my foot on the gas. I looked in the tank with a flashlight and some some sketchy looking stuff swimming around in the bottom. I only let it run for a few minutes yesterday, I wouldn't think the filters would clog that fast, but I don't know. I'm going to take Fuzzy Buzzard's advice and start with the tank and go to the carburetor. I don't know if I can wrassle that tank off by myself or not, but I'm gonna give it a try. Danged old trucks!
  24. Thank you very much.
  25. Looks fantastic! I smoked a couple of Boston butts Friday for a cookout we had Saturday.
