  1. first the Texas redwoods, now the hills...
  2. Neat stuff Ted, i'm going to check out "50 Years".
  3. Those pictures are so bad I added some captions. I read a book about the Johnstown flood when I was a kid, and found this fascinating. I had been by here before on 219 and didn't even know that this was the remains of the actual dam that failed, and you can see most of the old lake bed from rt.219.
  4. I saw a girl in a car in Roanoke. It was hot Tuesday, but not this hot! This thermometer is about 10 degrees off. More logs in W.V. Saw this oversize load coming around the bend on rt.8 in Franklin,Pa. The cloud factory was gittin'-r-done. I tried to get a picture of the remains of the South Fork Dam and the old Lake Conemaugh lake bed, but the pictures pretty much suck. I'd really like to stop and see this and the Johnstown Flood National Museum. Rt.30 in Pa. Another girl, in another car.
  5. that was my favorite picture!
  6. I had to catch a ride back from Roanoke...that's me in the middle.
  7. Salt in winter, bugs in summer.
  8. Maybe I shouldn't have made that joke about the Freightliner yesterday morning. I pulled to the fuel pump, fueled up, then drove about 50 yards up to the office to drop off my paperwork. I told Jeff "my truck ain't running right, can I drive a Freightliner?" He said "last week we had to put a gun to your head to get you to drive one, and now you want to drive one?"
  9. It's got 388-389, something like that- under 400,000 anyway. They had the filter cleaned when I was off last year. I know that was in September, because I went to the truck show in Winchester while I was off..."off" like on vacation that is, lest anyone get the wrong idea.
  10. It was actually running fine- well, same as usual anyway. I stopped at the store in Blue Ridge and got a bottle of water and an ice cream cone. When I started to leave the engine light came on. I cut it off and restarted it to see if the light would go off...it didn't. Turned the little knob on the dash to see what the fault was and it said "delta pressure". I'd seen that one before, but I couldn't remember what it meant. So I pulled off and figured i'd call Jeff to see if it was important or if I should keep on riding- as soon as I finished the ice cream cone that is. He said to run it by Truck Enterprises and let them check it, and that's when they found the issues. I was upstairs watching Swamp People when the service manager came in wanting to know who to call... I don't remember the exact date, but i'm thinking it was just last fall when they put a turbo on that truck at Truck Enterprises in Keyser, W.V. No doubt about it that time, it went out with a big boom.
  11. evidently!
  12. I left with a load of lumber going to Pa. and didn't make it past Roanoke. This time they said the turbo was bad, CAC was "busted", and the DPF needs cleaning.
  13. I've got Gulfway myself, they specialize in antique vehicles, race cars, and what-not.
  14. No, no, no, "puny" is not Canadian- the "eh" at the end is Canadian. I learned how to speak Canadian from Kyle Petty. He was covering a race in Canada once and he said just say "eh" after everything, and you're speaking Canadian. Easy enough, eh?
  15. By the way he was strutting around, I would tend to believe he just liked the color...but I could be wrong. He used what appeared to be moving blankets under the coils- supposed to use rubber pads- and more moving blankets for chain protectors.
  16. Wow, how did you manage to get a video of gearhead204 digging holes?
  17. This is so funny i'm glad my coffee cup was empty...
  18. My Daddy had a '66 Chevrolet pickup with a 292, 3 speed on the column. I used to drive it to school my senior year...probably wasn't as quick as the 'vette though. I saw a lot of impressive six cylinder cars at the dragstrip in Suffolk, Va. in the 70's. There were two 66-67 Chevy II Novas there running 11's with 6 cylinders, don't know what size engines they were, might have been 292's. But my favorite was the solid black 60-something Corvette that had the big GMC truck engine in it. It had a big hood scoop that sat off to one side and was one of the most consistant cars i'd ever seen. Seems like it would run a 10.00 or 10.01 every pass. Had wheelie bars on it and every time he hit a gear the front wheels would hop up a couple inches, all the way to high gear.
  19. I was talking about last week's "Pictures of the Week" pictures, it looked like the same plant was making a huge cloud. I just like to practice speaking Canadian sometimes so I can stay fluent.
  20. That's a power plant that's somewhere between rts. 22 and 422. I was on 422, east of Kittanning, Pa. when I took the picture.
  21. Me too, but it's still early in seat cover season. When it gets better i'll delete pictures like this and only keep the good ones and won't need the back-ups!
  22. I also saw this dinosaur when I was at the old Jarrell's Truckstop the other night. It's right across the street from King's Dominion. Jo got me a nice T-shirt. Saw a Mack place on rt. 22 in Pa. I went that way because the scales were open on 79, and I had over 48,000 lbs. on. It's a nice ride across there anyway, except for the 48,000 stop lights. Saw this big Mack truck too. Did I get this one?..darn Yuenglings... Another girl in another car.
  23. I would have been here sooner, but I went to see my mother today. Took a picture of a green bug while I was there- and this frog- The old cloud factory doesn't look nearly as impressive this week...looks kind of puny,eh? (that's Canadian) Areva trailer at the shop. Another big load of logs in W.V. I encountered this situation just west of Nettie, W.V. on rt.39 Sunday. Had to wait over 2 hours while they replaced a pole. They were detouring all the 4 wheelers around, but the man said you couldn't get through there in a truck. A Celadon truck hauling big rolls of paper had turned over early Sunday morning in this curve and took the pole out. That's some dangerous stuff to haul. I was still in the Freightliner Sunday, but back in the KW when I took the last two pictures on Wednesday. Big-ass rock truck on top of that hill over yonder. A sign on a barn on rt.522 just north of Winchester, Va. A girl in a car. Back-up girl in a car picture, in case the first one was no good. Sitting in the pipe line at Griffin Pipe. Loading pipes on the truck in front of me. This is where I took the pipes in Claysville, Pa.- right across that 10 ton bridge. Then I went to Galv-Tech in Pittsburgh to load 5 coils going to Lynchburg...had to wait behind this guy screwing around trying to get his shit together before I could get loaded...I didn't even know you could use blankets instead of rubber pads under the coils, or i'd have been doing it all along. Chains on the front and rear coils, just straps on the others. And here's a man lowering a block of whatever those blocks are into a hole where it melts and coats the steel, then it goes up into the ceiling somewhere, where something else happens. Then it comes back down towards the far end of the building....see? I know all about the steel industry. And here we have a truck that Jeff was thinking about buying for me- he said maybe I wouldn't tear the rear end out of this one, but he's still trying to figure out how to get the 5th. wheel height down to an acceptable level. A girl in a car- with back-up picture.
