  1. you can load up a crew of grape pickers and head to the vineyard.
  2. ...and you're headed down the same path young fellow! But don't despair, there's still time to change your ways.
  3. they've got the corridor H 4 lane done from Wardensville to rt. 93 now. 259 is a good road from Broadway to Baker now too, a lot wider than it used to be. We used to run 259 to 50 going to Luke, Md. and it was skinny and crooked as a dog's leg. We'd come out on 50 by a store, little ways past Dennis Lupton trucking. Now I get on the 4 lane at Baker and cross the mountain to Moorefield and either take 220 north to 50, or continue west to 93, and 42 to 50 to 560 to Oakland and 219 north, depending on where i'm going. I like running that way, little traffic, few cops, haven't seen the DOT.
  4. Lots of companies around here ran 237 Macks. It's all Jamerson Brothers ran for a long time, and H.H.Moore still ran some hauling chips to Covington- very heavy loads, and you pretty much have to cross the mountain to get there. A fellow named Leon used to drive the switch truck for H.H. at the woodyard in Dillwyn, Va. It was a 237 R model, daycab. He got paid by the hour to switch trailers all day, then he'd load the last load and take it to Covington himself, in that switch truck. A load of chips to Covington only paid $30 then. A story "lone wolf" told- He used to haul pulpwood, the 5' billets, from a woodyard in Appomattox that used to be where Appomattox Hardware is now. He pulled for Jamerson Brothers and ran to Hopewell, Va. He had an old Emeryville with a 220 Cummins and a 10 speed. One time his truck was broke down so Herbert Jamerson told him to drive one of his F models to run a few loads. So he did, and he said that 237 had so much power he just couldn't drive his Emeryville any more, so he just kept on driving a Jamerson Bros. truck and parked the Emeryville.
  5. Congratulations Joe and Candice! Bulldogman called me Wednesday night and told me. He asked if i'd heard from you and I told him I missed a call from you, and he told me that's what it was,a bouncing baby boy. So, what did you name him? Tommy?..William?..Joe?

  7. I like to grill stuff, and have a beer while i'm grilling! light charcoal, have a beer. dump charcoal in grill, have a beer. I put some rub on both sides, put them over indirect heat, had a beer, got the secret recipe bbq sauce at the ready. put them over direct heat to brown them some- keep cooking until out of beer, even if they're over cooked. beer's gone, time to eat! They were actually very good for discount bin pork chops!
  8. it was on 259, a few miles south of Baker.

  10. Guess i'll just stay here and cook these two porch chops on the grill. They're really thick, so I gotta go low and slow. They were in the reduced bin, but they looked good. If they smell good i'm gonna eat it. I'll post another picture after they're cooked, if I don't have food poisoning.
  11. That's what bulldog man needs- he can sell the knuckle boom and put a little dump body on the truck.
  12. Jim and I will be there later- i'll probably be there first, since he's coming all the way from New Hamster or somewhere.
  13. There's a ski resort a little north of Oakland, Md, not far from Mt. Storm.
  14. is this a new record for replies in the introduction forum?
  15. they come in from up top somewhere. I've never seen them there except late in the evening, when the hillside is in the shade. I think they go there to relax, i've seen them jumping around and playing there on those rocks
  16. I saw an H model in Amelia too, but didn't see it in time to get a picture. It is visible in the google earth street view though.
  17. I saw some barbecued chicken last weekend. I saw a blue Mack on the scales in Petersburg too. and another Mack over there on the other scale. it was very hot in Petersburg- it was actually only in the 90's, but sitting in that loading area it was this hot! Motorcycle accident in West Virginia. The Wal Mart truck was involved, don't know if the bike came around the curve and ran into the back of it or just what happened. Saw the goats again. Over the mountain, rt. 48 west of Moorefield, W.V. You can see the smoke from the power plant in Mt. Storm in the distance. They should have the last stretch of 4 lane open soon, but now you still have to get off at rt. 93, take it down to rt.42, turn right, and start climbing that 4 mile 10% grade. steep ramp down to 93 too. the 4 lane will eventually cross 42 just to the right of the smoke from the power plant, at the notch in the hill. it'll probably take me 30 minutes or more to get there from where i'm at. Random road shot, heading east on I-80, just west of Clearfield, Pa. Chipping operation in N.C. Tunnel on I-77 at the Va./W.V. line. When I was coming back from Oakvale W.V. some girl tried to get me to stop. I thought she was going to step out in front of the truck. I never slowed down. Construction on I-81 between Christiansburg and Roanoke. When I got back to the shop I helped Jeffrey pick grapes off the pine tree. He's gonna make wine out of them. Then on the way home I saw this girl in Winfall. I think she might have been stuck, but i'm not sure. I never even slowed down.
  18. ...entirely different reference...
  19. I'm surprised nobody asked if the carpet- well, never mind,i'm not going there either.
  20. there's an ATHS shown in Lincolnton,N.C. next month. I'll have to check the exact date, it used to be the last of July-first of August but they changed the date this year, probably thinking it would be cooler. I usually went to that show, but i'm thinking maybe i'll go to the one in Winchester, Va. this year instead. It's in September also, the 20-22nd I think.
  21. Vlad's a heckuva wheel man!
  22. Are y'all in the old Smith's terminal? That place is huge, several companies use that old terminal, pretty sure Con-Way's in there, amongst others. Used to not run 60 across Hawk's Nest without seeing Smith's Transfers going both ways. I'd usually be in their way, they were hard to keep up with, they could run that mountain!
