  1. I couldn't catch the big one that was in the tree- if I had she'd be smoking in the grill now.
  2. That's what i'm sayin'- anybody can drive a 10 speed roadranger, but it takes timing and skill to drive a 5 speed Mack!
  3. what?!! no camera? I just went to Wal Mart- I mean the Wal Mart store- and had a camera with me. It's OK this time, but let's just hope randyp doesn't hear about this.
  4. apparently not. they just got it fixed yesterday too. they're gonna leave it outside the gate so I can pick it up tomorrow. And Jimmy, our chief mechanic, talked like it's been a pretty common problem in these T660's. They said Thursday they had the whole dash out of it , they must have had to take the truck apart to get those bushings in...86,000 miles. I bet that plastic bag of dirty, filthy, wet, sweaty clothes that was in the passenger side floorboard are smelling good about now too!
  5. I went to the Wal-Mart store a while ago, rode up 29 north a ways towards Lynchburg first. I was gonna try to get a picture of the big oak tree that fell on a 50-something 2 ton Chevrolet truck, but I didn't see it. Thought it was between here and Yellow Branch, but it must be between Yellow Branch and Foster Fuel. I did take some pictures of some things however, here with gripping descriptions- I saw this here Mack loaded on a trailer hooked to that other Mack. and these 2 blurry cars, and a pole a nice looking blurry Mustang- hey, I was using Jo's camera, she was driving. A "dangling M" R-model water truck at the Wal-Mart store and this creature-
  6. Got this link, and the picture, from Micheal Savage- he's right, it does make you think! http://www.naturalne...false_flag.html
  7. Same thing the mixer truck does- i'm hoping tires solve the problem.
  8. I noticed the date on the pictures is Jan. 2007 too. Let's see, that's...hold on...carry the one...over 5 years ago!
  9. They're here- earlier than I expected. Saw this out the kitchen window this morning, so I ran out on the back porch and got a picture.
  10. Each tag represents a trip to Carter Cat with a C-15 Acert twin turbo, for broken rockers and mostly the dreaded "intake valve actuator fault". I'm sure I accumulated a few more after I took this picture. But, the last year or so before Jeff traded the Pete was pretty much trouble free. It was a 550 with the heavy haul package, and it ran and pulled while derated with the engine light on about as good as the new paccar does all the time.
  11. I don't know what MSW is, but this is one of my favorite "girl in car" pictures. This was taken while I was sitting in traffic on I-85 around Concord, N.C. a few years ago. The best one was taken with my film camera and it was on the wall at the shop for a long time.
  12. Since the tank was just used for water, it probably has an open vent of some sort on it somewhere,eh? I was just thinking of a picture I saw of a new stainless steel tanker that the sides had collapsed on because the driver forgot to open the vent when he was unloading.
  13. dammit! West Virginia, eh? That means they'll be here by tomorrow afternoon.
  14. You're exactly right. I've often said that it takes much more skill to drive a 5 speed Mack than most Roadranger transmissions, you do need a good sense of timing to drive them. Once you get used to them you'll love it. I went from a Transtar International with a VT903 Cummins,13 speed, to an F-model 300 5 speed. The 903 would turn 2,600 rpms, you down shifted at around 1900-2000 rpms. About as far apart as you could get, from a 903 to a Maxidyne! Took a while to get used to the Mack, but once I did, I wouldn't have traded it for anything else we had at the time.
  15. oh...I feel so stoopid!
  16. I noticed that too. Wonderful, now these creatures that were once found only in Nevada have gained a foothold in central Illinois. In a year or 2 they'll be over here in Virginia. Great...
  17. well...they were sorta-kinda in order until I went thru them this morning- I turned every other one backwards to make space, and they're all jumbled up now.p.s. - "If you find anymore let me know!" Yeah, like that's gonna happen! I'd like to find another one for myself!
  18. OK, thanks. I didn't look too close at Double Clutch, just a quick look at the covers. i'm pretty sure i've still got it too then. That magazine rack came from a store in Appomattox. They were throwing it out- wish I had another one, this one's almost full to capacity.
  19. That's odd- I went through all these antique truck magazines in the rack looking for the Euclid article, since I had nothing else to do. I've never thrown any of them away, but I couldn't find it. I thought it was in one called "Shifting Gears", one I only got 3 or 4 issues of before they stopped publishing it, I guess. I know the Euclid was somewhere around Clearfield, Pa. and i'm pretty sure I didn't dream it.
  20. not enough though. she should have had her window down so there wouldn't be a reflection. makes a much better picture.
  21. If you're driving a 5 speed Maxidyne don't even try to downshift it on a pull until the rpm's drop to about 11-1200 rpms. It's a waste of time. They're a pretty neat deal once you get used to them. With the high torque rise engine you can let off it going down the highway- loaded- until the rpm's drop to 11 or 12 hunnert, then just mash your gas and it'll pick right back up. I used to go through Buckingham Courthouse with a 50,000+ lb. load, slow down to 35mph. going through town, and never have to downshift. Just left it in the big hole, when I hit the 55 zone I just put the hammer down, blew out a huge cloud of smoke, and was off! That was in a 300 Mack that had the fuel turned up a little, and it would turn 2400 rpms. If it's an 8 spd, it's an 8 spd. The 8LL is a 10 spd. transmission.

    B'day boy:

    Happy birthday!
  23. I have an antique truck magazine here somewhere, I think it's one that's no longer published, that had an article about a Euclid in Pa. that had 2 6-71's in it. They were still using it on a job, and supposedly it was going to a museum as soon as the job was finished.
  24. they make artificial water?..I never knew. I'm always learning stuff here.
  25. I've never driven any newer Detroits, but I did read in Heavy Duty Trucking a year or so ago that the Detroit Diesel engine was rated higher in customer satisfaction than Cummins or Cat, with less breakdowns per so many miles, forgot what it was. The "big horse" in H.H.Moore's fleet for a long time was the brown K100 with a 440HP 8V-92 in it.I drove a 1977 F-model 300/5spd. for several years, trouble free except the turbo went out in Massachusets one time. I remember one time when it was in our shop for something, and I drove another F-model with a 237 to run a trip. Took a 50,155 lb.load of Kyanite to Washington, Pa. in it and reloaded coils in Butler, Pa. Before I left I got my radar detector out of my truck and was walking over towards the other truck with it in my hand and Jeff Moore said "don't worry- you won't be needing that!" He was about right- 2nd. gear on a lot of the hills that that 285hp. would pull in 3rd, but that ol' 237 got the job done.
