  1. "This forum is for non-truck related topics. Talk about interesting web sites, current events, tell jokes, post funny photos...etc." but no political opinions,eh?..good bye freedom of speech here, unless it's popular or politically correct?
  2. The things you threw away years ago that you wish you had saved now! I had a Hot Rod magazine that had an article about Doug Cook shortly after he'd passed away. Or was it somebody else? ..I'm not sure now. That's why I wish I still had it. Pretty sure it was the Stone,Woods, and Cook Willys gasser...but maybe not. Anyway, the article was about how fast and how fearless he was. I remember it saying the chassis was little more than exhaust tubing, when he'd leave the line it would jump straight up in the air and when it came down, sometimes straight, usually sideways, he'd slam another gear and was gone. He was bald on top, and known for driving it all out, "balls to the wall". Maybe some of you will know more about who i'm talking about than I do.
  3. Thanks David, I wouldn't want to jump in someone else's thread without permission or authorization ( ) but I ran across a few good ones.
  4. This made me think of Rowdy Rebel...he takes a little different approach.
  5. You just need to read this 14 volume set of books Mike. Rob did, and look at how well him and "momma" get along now.
  6. The real thing turned out pretty good.
  7. Thank you anyway, but 1 sweet potato pie is worth many, many, cow pies- maybe more than punkin' pies. And 6 KIDS?!!...have you found out what's causing them? Nice picture of the cow pie too- very clear and detailed.
  8. I got up at midnight last night, drank 2 pots of coffee, prepped a turkey and had it smoking by 3am, cooked sweet potatoes and made 3 pies, cooked a ham, (well, ok,the instructions said to cook it for 12-15 minutes per pound but it was already cooked, just had to heat it up all the way through I think), and got them giblet things boiling now. Then I did some important research on the internet just as a public service. My son and his wife were coming over today, but they changed his schedule- he works at the Wal-Mart store in Appomattox- so he can't come until tomorrow. OK, can't help that. Jo's son and his girlfriend were coming over too but they just called and said they couldn't make it either. They invited themselves, as usual- he just rubs me the wrong way, but it's her son. 40 years old by the way. Makes me want to lock the door and leave in the morning to go see Mom and Dad. Was going to do that tomorrow anyway, but put it off until Saturday when Morgan said he couldn't come until tomorrow. My Daddy just turned 80 last week. Hope every one has a wonderful Thanksgiving, I am so far, and thanks for Barry and BMT, and thanks for an outlet to vent, I feel much better.
  9. Yeah, i'm sure Carter Cat misses me, as I was a regular there. But, people would tell me on the cb regularly that that was a good looking Pete- might have been the service crew that was secretly following me. Guess I won't hear that any more, since i'm driving a plain vanilla KW now. "The days of the big horsepower are over"...Jeff Moore,2011.
  10. so that's how pumpkin pies are made- I never knew! One sweet potato pie is worth a thousand pumpkin pies...just my opinion. So I made the sweet potato pie equivalent of 3,000 pumpkin pies.
  11. this is where it was- By the way, great looking truck, eh? I sure do miss it.
  12. yes, I would think you're ok- it was cast right on the spring hangers on the Peterbilt I used to drive, only way to get it off would be with a grinder. Peterbilt...low air leaf...man, that was a great truck- I sure do miss it.
  13. it won't, Elroy ground all the markings offen it.
  14. I would if I could, but I do not have a fax machine. All I have is a printer, copier, scanner and the scanner is dead and the printer is marginal. Looks like it's cooking nicely in the smoker though, I think it'll be done shortly, looks like the automatic timer pop-up button is starting to automatically pop up.
  15. Another scandal involving a presidential candidate!
  16. thighs are good too, in fact under rated in my opinion...thighs.
  17. just got mine on the grill, 3 am. I have no idea really how long it'll take to cook, but I do have a plan. I'll smoke it until 9 or 10, then put it in a covered roasting pan and put some charcoal in the main part of the grill. I'm just using the offset firebox now, with charcoal and oak. You're welcome to come on over and try it this afternoon.
  18. You're just a little bit west of Milton. Been running there all week to Engines Incorporated- you can see it right by I-64.
  19. tryptophan...where's my book that 'splains what stuff is...starts with a "D"...oh yeah, dictionary...oh, there it is- holding up the corner of the couch that the leg broke off of.
  20. I didn't get to watch the NASCAR race Sunday, but I heard that Michelle and Mrs. Biden were there and they were loudly booed by the race fans.
  21. conversation went something like this- "Elroy, I think I got that old Peterbilt 'spension out there by the corn field sold. See if that super M will start, and drag it up here so we can grind the Peterbilt emblems offen them there spring hangers. Then paint over them with the good paint-use the krylon, not the dollar store paint-or that feller won't want it iffen he sees Peterbilt or PACCAR on it anywheres." "I'm on it boss!"
  22. I used to go to Richmond dragway about every weekend in the '70's. It was the local track, had some fast cars but they didn't have what you'd call "big time" national events or anything. But I did go to the old Suffolk, Va. drag strip where they did have NHRA events. The track was on an old airport runway, don't know if it's still in existance or not, but that's where I saw a couple of 66 or 67 ChevyII Novas running 11 second 1/4 mile times with 6 cylinder engines. Had never seen such before. There was also an early model solid black corvette that I liked turning 10.0's with one of the old GMC 6 cylinders in it. It had wheelie bars on it and when it left the front wheels would come up about 6 inches and every time he hit another gear they'd hop up about 6 inches. Ran straight every time- and fast! I still remember this, these were my favorite cars to watch, 10 to 12 second cars with 4 speeds, like Freightrain's, rather than top fuel or funny cars.
