  1. that's exactly like the story i've told before- we were hauling pulpwood from a wood yard in Buckingham, Va. to the Westvaco paper mill in Covington. We'd run rt. 60 to Lexington, Va, then jump on 81 north one exit, then 64 to Covington. I don't know if you've been across that part of 60, has a 65' length restriction now, but those mountains before you get to Buena Vista are nothing to take lightly. 2 of our drivers going up loaded met a Schneider truck going east just a little ways from the top. They told him he was going kind of fast and he made a similar reply, something like "F**k you, I know what i'm doing!" When they unloaded and were on the way back he was down in the "s" curves near the bottom, turned over.
  2. ...well?..what happened?
  3. Saw this truck coming down Sandstone Mountain Monday evening with the trailer brakes smoking like hell. The left lane is closed all the way down so you need to come off it slow enough that the engine brake does most of the work- there was a pickup pulling a trailer then a tandem log truck pulling a pup trailer going real slow in front of this truck. He had one more runaway ramp in front of him but I don't think he needed it.I was going west with about 20,000 lbs. on so I was out of radio range pretty quick. There was 2 state troopers sitting in the construction at the bottom too.
  4. I bought one like that at Colfax last year. Those N.C. Mack guys always have good stuff at their tent. Guess I need to leave earlier and get there before you do this year!
  5. Sounds like our luck is about the same.
  6. Which one is Tommy Lee? Must be awesome to be Tommy Lee, having been with both Heather Locklear and Pamela Anderson- along with many others. What was it like to- oh...wait, that was "Motley Crue" i'm thinking of...never mind.
  7. I can identify 3 peoples, 4 counting yourself.
  8. Talked to Herb this morning, he said the alternator is pretty much guaranteed to be toast.
  9. I've tried to call you several times there but it always went straight to the voicemail- I was starting to get worried about you. No wonder, with you getting into these physical altercations! Maybe you should have wrung his arm off at the shoulder and showed him the other end of it- self defense ya' know.
  10. That would be me- I went over and put new batteries in the mixer today. I took the old ones out and made a mental note to myself how they were hooked up. Took them down to Carquest in Appomattox and got the new ones, went back to Concord and put them in then hooked them up backwards anyway! What a dumbass! I turned the switch on and wondered why the air buzzer wasn't buzzing. So I turned the marker lights on, and smoke started rolling from behind the dashboard. Ran around and pulled the cables off as quick as I could, fortunately I hadn't tightened them yet! I then hooked them up like they were supposed to be, and it started and ran fine and all the lights worked. I'm still gonna take the dash out and look to see if any wires were damaged. Hope it didn't hurt the alternator either, but if it did and that's all i'll still consider myself lucky for being so stupid- could have been worse. Scared the hell out me!
  11. It's tough- they're all good pictures, David has some good ones from the ATHS show, but it's hard to narrow it down. I liked his V8 F-model best, but the top of the stack was cut off. I tried to pick at least one of each model and this is just my personal favorites, I'd still have to cut 5 pictures out- i'm still glad it's not me doing the picking! I left one out by axledent this morning, so I put it in here-
  12. Old Bill sent me a calendar and some Canadian trucking magazines too. He said this calendar was put together for a company reunion. It closed 40 years ago. He'll be putting something on his website about it. Here's some Mack pictures, and smaller ones of all of them- I squozed them together to make it a little smaller.
  13. Saw this during my travels this week too- A Superliner dump truck by the Ohio river, and a cabover Peterbilt pulling a J.B.Hunt trailer in West Virginia. I saw a Fed-Ex 9670 International daycab too, but I didn't get a picture.
  14. Thank you, yeah he does do a pretty good job down at the old ready mix plant.
  15. Just for the fun of it, and because I had nothing else to do at 4am, I picked these as my favorites...there is 16 months in a year ain't it?
  16. Looks to be in better shape than the one in Concord for $3500.
  17. Got to the shop last Sunday, and the truck washer guy had just brought my truck back. He comes and gets them on weekends and takes them down to where they started to build a ready-mix plant a few years ago, but never finished it, and washes them. It was really clean, as seen here. Back in Lynchburg Tuesday, it was still pretty clean. Even by Friday in Kent, Ohio it was fairly clean even after running in rain most of the week.
  18. This truck used to be an R-model, but ever since it stalled on the tracks and that slow moving train hit it and knocked the cab cranksided it's been a U-model.
  19. Good Bob, I like the red one with the black fenders. I don't want the sleeper though, i'll give it to Freightrain so he can make a double sleeper for his B.
