  1. bad example of cut, copy, and paste- I could do better with more time, but the charcoal's about ready.
  2. sorry about that...of course it's all Mike's fault.
  3. oh. I just assumed it was a high load, and you should never assume anything.
  4. Saw this oversize load in Colorado last week. It was the highest load i've ever seen- must have been well over a hundred feet high.
  5. I'm sure Mike wouldn't consider me for that job- i'm not from Oklahoma!
  6. I pull a 48' Fontaine Phantom spread axle. I've had a 48,000+lb. single coil in the middle of it and didn't break it in half. They order all the trailers with the coil package though. I like it fine, haven't had any problems with it.
  7. I think it was called a 711 because after the chief engineers had perfected this particular engine they said "hey, let's all go down to the 7-eleven and get a slurpee to celebrate!". While they were standing in the 7-eleven store parking lot enjoying their slurpees one of them said "what are we gonna call this new engine?". They all looked up at the 7-eleven sign...the rest, as they say, is history. That's just my theory.
  8. I couldn't resist either-when i'm lost flyin' I get the old Rand McNalley out of the floor between the seats and take a look. Hasn't steered me wrong yet. Oh no- reminds me of a joke I once heard. Two best friends decided to join the air force. When they went to enlist the recruiter asked the first guy "what do you do?". He said "I'm a pulpwood cutter". The recruiter said "sorry, but we just can't use you right now". Then he asked the second guy "and what do you do?". He said "i'm a pilot". The recruiter said "great! I know we have a place for you-what can you fly?". The man said "fly? I cain't fly nuthin'". "But I thought you were a pilot" said the recruiter. "I'm is" said the man. "He cuts the wood, then I pile it".
  9. I just passed thru Dumas last Friday on rt. two eighty seven. hmmm...nothing works on the top row of the keyboard. Looks like a trip to Wal-Mart tomorrow. 56-= well,5,6,-,and = work. That's all I need.
  10. couldn't say,i've never pulled an East, but I see a lot of them in Ohio and Pa. East,Mac,and Reitenour-?-seem to be most popular in that area.
  11. I got home from the Colorado trip Tuesday night. I unloaded coiled wire that I loaded in Pueblo, Co. last Thursday in Rome, Ga. Monday morning, then had to layover and pick up a load of 60' beams in Greenville, S.C. Tuesday morning. Got them off in Petersburg that evening and finally got home. Had to take the truck to Carter Cat because the engine light had been on for a week. I was supposed to leave today going to Homestead, Florida. I was gonna run double with Billy Bob in his truck, but he had to leave yesterday for Nebraska, so Otis was gonna go with me in my truck, which is fixed now...for a while anyway. Had to have 2 drivers because the load was supposed to go at 4pm today, and needed to be in Homestead at 8am tomorrow. But, those plans changed too-maybe because the trailer we're pulling hasn't even made it back to Lynchburg from California yet. So now we're supposed to leave at 1 o'clock Sunday and deliver Monday morning. I think we'll just drop the trailer and bobtail back but i'm not sure about that yet.
  12. Thanks Mike, I will.
  13. easier-
  14. another one turned up...
  15. or perhaps the question is "do you feel lucky?..well do 'ya Rob?" (Dirty Harry)
  16. found another picture-
  17. I like Howes in winter when it's real cold. I used to put a quart of ATF in the fuel tanks once in a while too, but don't anymore. The red dye in the ATF is the same as in off road fuel. There's a man in Appomattox ,won't mention any names, that has a truck leased on where I work. He also has a dump truck, bulldozer, backhoe, etc. and does excavation work. He was hauling his dozer from a job back to his shop one time and didn't have much fuel in the truck so he put just a little of his off road fuel in it to get him home-and the DOT stopped him and checked it. He had never done it before, and never had the fuel checked before but they fined him pretty heavy for it.
  18. I agree, I was pulling an aluminum Ravens before Jeff bought the Fontaine i'm pulling now and a Ravens is hard to beat.
  19. She'll understand- she knows you need that truck. I know she knows you couldn't go wrong at that price, especially with the extra parts and the dump body. She's far too intelligent to not think it's a helluva find and a "must have" situation.
  20. oh,sorry-helluva load of doo-doo then.
  21. What a beautiful country we live in-I probably had a similar picture on my great western adventure last year, but here's Pike's Peak again. I probably should have made it smaller, but it's such an impressive looking mountain! And this old boom truck I couldn't identify-I was going to a jobsite in Broomfield,Co. when I took this picture and never got a look at the front of it. Looks like they lowered the boom on top of the cab at some point.
  22. I haven't run over anything lately-and it'll probably outperform the 550 Cat I drive, because I can't seem to make a trip without the engine light coming on, usually an intake valve actuator fault code. Just like on my last trip...but then it's been almost 3 months since they fixed it the last time-not bad for a Cat.
