  1. well, thank you very much indeed!
  2. ...yeah,this is a giant steel mushroom on rt. 51 in Pittsburgh,a random shot from Phillipsburg,Pa ( -Jobyna asked lots of questions about this picture-lots of people have probably never been through Phillipsburg, and wonder what it looks like! ),a couple of Mack dump trucks on I-77 in W.V,a big Mack all-wheel drive wrecker in Broadway,Va, the load of cement mixers I picked up in Malta,Oh, the old Cedar Grove Truckstop on rt. 60 in W.V,the old truckstop in Ansted,W.V,and the old weigh station just east of Ansted. I have stopped at both of these truckstops when they were open. ...and for the weekly report,I went to Orchard Park,N.Y, Brookfield,Oh. back to Roanoke, then to Zelienople,Pa,Brookfield to Roanoke, and to Conneaut,Oh. and Brookfield to Roanoke. Riding my a$$ off in other words! Got to go to Petersburg tomorrow and get a load going to Fairmont,W.V. and reload at Brookfield for Roanoke. Then I'll make one more turn and be off on vacation for a week. Normally I wouldn't have to leave on Sunday after making three rounds, but I agreed when they agreed that i'd be off when I got back from the second turn on Thursday. Sometimes you got to negotiate
  3. Stupid computers-that's why I don't get any parts at Advance Auto Parts. Went to the one in Appomattox once to get a battery for my lawnmower.Looked like a motorcycle battery. The guy said " I need the make, model, and serial number". I said "it's an MTD,the battery looks just like a motorcycle battery". So he threw his hands up and said "I need all the information, there's a hundred different batteries". I threw my hands up too and said "you don't have a hundred different batteries in the store!" and left, leaving a couple of items i'd picked up laying on the counter.Went right up the street to Western Auto, told the guy I needed a battery for my mower, and he went and got one off the shelf and said "does it look like this?" I said "yes-exactly".Same thing when I needed some half inch studs-a generic type item, but if you can't give them some type of vehicle to look up they don't know what you're talking about. Ran into the same situation when I stopped at the one in Dillwyn to get a low beam headlight for the Peterbilt-all the rectangular headlights are the same,I think they're 1a1 and 2a1 for low and high beam. As soon as they asked what type of vehicle it just really made me hot so I said "i'm building a spaceship in the backyard and I want to put headlights on it".The girl behind the counter didn't say anything, just went and got a head light off the shelf. I paid for it and when I was going out the door she said "good luck with your spaceship". I said "thank you".
  4. that's a good looking B-61 you've got there.
  5. If creatures eat all the fruits and vegetables I might have to join P.E.T.A.-that would be the "people eating tasty animals" one,not those other ones 219's not a bad road at all, kinda hilly, little crooked but not too bad. It's even paved now I don't see many coal buckets on it at all. Most of the truck traffic seems to be going to Johnsonville to the bratwurst factory. Either that or the paper mill in Johnsonburg. I don't know how much it's changed ,I used to either go up rt.15 from Harrisburg to Corning,or sometimes 79 to Erie and across the thru way. Neither's really a bad way to go,but not really a good way.I used to consider Buffalo one of those places you can't get to from here, but going up 220,99,350,80,153,and 219 it's only a little over 500 miles. I used to like the part of rt.15 from Williamsport to Corning, that's beautiful country.
  6. I found one, couldn't scan it too good because it's in a hard cover book.
  7. Dang it! Got up this morning and looked at the peach tree in the back yard, which was full of nice big peaches as recently as yesterday evening, and it was stripped bare! They weren't quite ripe, just starting to turn red,but apparently they were ripe enough for whatever ate them. A few were still on the tree half-eaten. I don't know if it was squirrels, racoons,a possum,or crows-crows ate all the cherries off the tree, and the rabbit about got the beans before I started spraying them with the hot sauce and soap. Should've sprayed the peaches too I guess. Got a little shower of rain yesterday, barely enough to settle the dust, but every little bit helps. I must be off now,to start that long trip to Orchard Park. I'm already dreading that long hard ride up rt. 219,but i've gotta go. might have the answer here-a fake owl! and the runaway ramp,Ridgway,Pa. rt. 219 ...so much for the fake owl idea-owl looks so real even I think it's real-there's three crows on the ground and a squirrel in the peach tree right now. Apparently they're way smarter than I am,I spent almost $20 for that owl. $20 will buy a lot of Texas Pete! back to the old pepper spray! ok,final update before I go to work-Jobyna insists that the owl has to actually be in the tree for it to work.It was only about 20' from the tree at first. I say if the squirrels were intimidated by the owl at all,it's close enough-but I moved it over into the tree anyway. Now we'll see who's smarter around here-me,her,or the squirrels.
  8. Me too-the ones in my B have never been bent or modified. I don't have a picture showing them all the way to the floor. I have changed the shift knobs from the round balls though.
  9. Hey Paul,we've missed you...you did say you've been away, didn't you? Uhh,anyway, whenever I finally get to see that B-67 i'll be wearing a trench coat, a hat with a brim on the front and back, carrying a magnifying glass, and blowing bubbles out of a weird looking long stemmed pipe
  10. yeah, that pretty much sums it up. and i'm sitting here hoping for rain
  11. Well,I got in one trip this week anyway.Went to Export,Pa. with a load of beams-that's near New Alexandria, but I didn't have time to stop and see Barry.Or more likely,he doesn't have time to fool with me. I had to get over to Malta,Ohio and get a load of cement mixers and everything that goes along with them. Had the trailer loaded from back to front, front to back, side to side-had 2 stacks of plastic bins piled up in the middle to 13' 6",a couple of wheeled carts, and the rest mixers. Unloaded them in Vinton this morning, stopped by the shop and fueled, then went to Dillwyn and loaded for Orchard Park,N.Y. for Monday delivery.

but it's good-and cheap!.."uh....what is this stuff anyway? no wait-don't tell me,I don't want to know!..good though" " sauteed cicadas in garlic sauce with broccoli, with lightly smoked tenderloin of a calico". "@%&*# it!!!!-I said I didn't want to know!!!"
  13. Wish I could get a load going there Joe-tell the boss to check out Blue Ridge Lumber in Moneta,Va. for some treated lumber...or is it Blue Ridge Wood? It's Blue Ridge something-or-other anyway. Guess I should pay more attention-i've hauled about 8,000 loads out of there, mostly to 84 Lumber around Oh. and Pa.
  14. ...sounds kinda like my Ranger-it's got a 5 speed, but if it had a 2 speed rear it'd be way more fun to drive
  15. the part between the swimming and truck shows is my favorite!
  16. I can see the swift truck passing us on the shoulder now...

Sat home again today.Called Jeff this morning and he told me to stay by the phone,he'd call me back as soon as he found out something about the truck. That was the last I heard from him. I called the shop about 4:00 and Neal said Jeff had already gone home. The truck IS supposed to be ready tomorrow though. I even took Jo out to the Chinese buffet in Altavista because I was driving her crazy, and that's a short trip for her. The orange stuff on a stick was pretty good. Actually everything was good, even if I couldn't identify most of it.
  21. I just bought an ELP cd last week, and this tour picture was inside, taken sometime in the '70s i'd guess. Looks like some F-models,some Fords,a Peterbilt, and ? Truck's still in the shop, and as you might have guessed,i'm at home with little to do.
  22. no wonder you're the "forum guru"-I've never seen anyone who knew so much about so many things. At least now I know who to ask for advice when I start building the spaceship in the back yard!
  23. yeah, finally! down to 79 in here now. Had 2 fans in the windows today, blowing the hot air from outside in here. I've gotten soft I guess, our ancestors didn't even have a fan,and they dealt with it. I remember when I was hauling chips with no AC in the truck, left arm would be twice as dark as my right one from having it out the window all the time. You could only sleep late at night when it was really hot,and i'd always get off of 64 at the old exit 10 and go a little ways up north mountain on rt. 60 and pull off at a big wide spot by a creek under some big oak trees so i'd be in the shade longer in the morning. The F-model Macks had the best vents ever-you could put a kool-cushion in the seat and open the vent in front and open the one in the ceiling facing towards the rear and stay pretty cool-as long as you were moving.
  24. yup, that was it-I hope! the man came this evening and it was a little low in freon, but not much he said. He also tightened up the fittings outside where the lines connect to the heat pump-they were a little loose too,he said,so I hope that takes care of the problem. Thanks for all the help guys!
