  1. Thank you,I've been approved and signed on the dotted line, and looked at the pictures I do keep a can or two of spam in the truck,in case I get snowbounded or something-hope they don't find out and kick me out. At least i've already looked at the pictures!
  2. well, Scott the friendly AC repairman just left. He said the freon was a little low,and he tightened the fittings outside that were pretty loose he said, and charged it with freon. I even signed a service agreement where they come out twice a year and clean, check, and service the heat and AC, once in the fall and again in the spring. Sounded pretty cheap to me at $130. Anyway,it's down to 88 degrees in here now,it was 93 inside a little while ago and 97 outside. I don't think I remember it ever being this hot this early in the year. Still no word on the truck's status.
  3. That's in answer to the question "how's it going?" I'm sitting here waiting for the air conditioner guy-after calling about 4 different places,I finally found one in Altavista that said they'd be here sometime today, but I have no idea when. Called Jeff too. He said the parts for the truck should be in today,so I won't be going anywhere today. Not only was the head gasket blown, they're putting a camshaft in it too because that had a lobe wiped off. He sounded very disgruntled,as there's no warranty on it. Been trying to find a cheap car,the engine in the '94 Taurus that my son was driving gave out,but I don't think there's any such thing as a cheap car anymore. At least i'm not in jail and nobody's shooting at me to my knowledge-always a bright side.
  4. absolutely! when i do shut if off and let it defrost it cools really well, until it freezes again. where's the possibly clogged 'vapperator located if anywhere? wonder why it freezes right up to that fitting and no further? I called the AC man already, but he hasn't called back-supposed to be 97 today too,so he might be "covered up".
  5. thanks
  6. uh...good question-this is the first home i've lived in that didn't have just window units. The heat pump (I guess?) is outside and the other thing (blower, filter, and the thing that keeps freezing) is in a space in here with a metal door on it. It is r-22. It is 84 dgrees outside,89 inside!
  7. oh...it's my home AC. Better call the AC man in the morning.
  8. This is certainly a non truck-related trouble- Anybody know anything about air conditioners? Mine keeps freezing! It'll work good for a while, then it'll get hot in here and I looked and the AC was completely iced over. Turn it off for a while, the ice melts off, turn it back on-same thing It's Sunday so I can't call the friendly experts down at the -where ever the friendly air conditioner experts work,if there is such a thing. Would be the hottest day of the year so far too! It was working fine 'til today.
  9. how do you get to the photo section? I only saw one picture,a green G-model
  10. I have a 2002 Ranger, good little truck. I used to complain because it doesn't have enough power to get out of it's own way,it'a 4 cyl. with a 5 speed-but it gets about 29 mpg,so i'm not complaining anymore.
  11. Got that WOT yesterday with the Procter Co. stories and pictures. Both excellent

I've seen more people hauling scrap lately,on every kind of thing, than I ever have. I can picture it now-a F-350 with two john deere tractors setting on top of a '68 Biscayne on top of a combine on top of two New Idea manure spreaders, topped off with a couple of Lawn Boy mowers...
  13. Yeah, when I left the truck at Cat Friday I was prepared to tell them "we know there's nothing wrong with it,but Jeff wants to put a water pump on it anyway" but the mechanic came out and talked to me after I dropped the trailer and said he was gonna check for a blown head gasket. The "know it all ,probably college educated but never drove a truck in his life" sevice manager kept saying everything was fine. He's the same one who turned the engine up from a 475 to a 550 and said it was right, and there's absolutely no difference in it...none.
  14. well,I was thinking about going to Macungie with my new BMT T-shirt and man purse and hitting on you,but you're a little too old for me...sorry. I'm off like a herd of turtles, see ya
  15. Well,i'm at home again, until at least Monday-truck's been running hot lately, and i've had it at Carter Cat twice already to have it checked out,and there's nothing wrong with it. It runs at 200+ degrees all the time, bumps 220 on a hill...but there's nothing wrong with it,the fan, thermostats, water pump-working fine I kept telling Jeff it was running way too hot,and he sent me by Cat both times, and when they said there was nothing wrong when I left there Wednesday evening, after wasting a couple of hours,he told me to "put foot in 'er ass,it's on them now". So that's what I did - when it got up to 220 degrees going up the mountain on I-64 before you get into West Virginia,I never let off it-I kept saying something was wrong,it was running too hot,had been to Cat twice and they said ,in so many words,"no it ain't-our high-tech equipment says everything's fine, you're an idiot, now get the hell outa here!" My theory was, it was the water pump-it's got 339,000 miles on it and never had a water pump put on it. I kind've figured it was just worn out from paddling all that water. I couldn't stand to keep driving the truck when I knew SOMETHING had to be wrong,so when I got in Friday morning Jeff told me to take it back to Cat,for the third time,he was gonna get a new water pump put on just for preventive maintenance( or maybe he was tired of hearing me whine about it!). So after I got unloaded in Roanoke I dropped it off at Cat again and went home. They said it would be ready Friday afternoon, and I was supposed to pick it up and get a load of pipes at the shop going to Monroeville,Pa. Before I got out of town good Jeff called me and said not to worry about picking the truck up-it had a blown head gasket. Didn't surprise me-I thought all along it had a blown head gasket At least I get to watch the new "Ice Road Truckers" Sunday night. And speaking of hot-geez! Went outside to stake my tomatoes after my Mr. Stripey toppled over and broke and the heat was intense. It's 92 here now. I remember when I was a kid,out in a hay field picking up square bales out of the field ( round balers weren't invented then!) or working in tobacco on days like today-or hotter, for that matter- but I couldn't do it now
  16. Bulldog Magazine? I'm almost afraid to ask after reading all these posts, but how do you get this Bulldog magazine?
  17. or maybe you'll get a couple gazillion and retire...just be a special consultant on BMT for a hobby...everybody needs a hobby they say. Anyway, good luck-I hope you come out OK . It's a shame to be put out of commission through no fault of your own, when you're just driving along minding your own binness.
  18. congratulations on your new Mack -found this LJ picture in my new Mack truck book
  19. here's a couple of F-models I drove (not at the same time) and a couple from my new Mack truck book
  20. it's been a long, long time since I worked on a 2 speed motor, but best I can remember they only had 2 bolts-or 2 studs coming from the rear end housing, just take the nuts off, disconnect the wires, and it comes right off. They have a rubber diaphram in it to keep rear end grease out of it because they take a really thin oil in the gear box,and there's a fork coming from the rear that just slides over the moving part in the box that changes the ratio.I know that's very general, but it's probably been 30+ years since I had one off. Only maintenance I remember doing to one is cleaning it out and replacing those diaphrams, because if rear end grease gets in them it's so thick they shift slow or not at all, just gums them up.
  21. ya know-you could be on to something there
  22. great!
  23. Thought I had the rabbit problem solved, but I guess not.Jobyna said she'd take over the dog's job for their salary,so I said ok-figured she'd eat way less kibbles and bits than they do,but it didn't work out. She was on routine patrol in the back yard when she spotted the enemy ( bunny). She got off a shot but the shotgun's kick knocked her down. She threw her equipment down and said "#$%@ you,I quit!!!" I said "quit?!! you're fired!" So,I guess it's back to the pepper spray. Tried out my new smoker / grill on some ribs today-at least that seems to work great! Cooked them over indirect heat as you can see, worked fine!
  24. I ordered a couple of CD's for Jo recently from Amazon (she asked for them, and I figured it was the least I could do,since I completely forgot her birthday-women are funny about that kind of thing). So while I was ordering,I figured i'd get something for myself too. I have several books by Ron Adams, all good, but saw one called "Mack Trucks" that I didn't have,so I ordered it too. It's really great, mainly about the first 70 years of Mack history-goes from the beginning up to the sixties. I saw Mack truck pictures that i've never seen before, and i've looked at every single picture on Hank's truck pictures. It's a book well worth having, and if anyone needs a picture of a rare model never seen or heard of before, let me know,i'll look it up for 'ya. Here's a couple of sample pages...
