sounds like you work at a wood yard

Since I had pictures of the whole turkey smoking process,I might as well show how it ended-with all the meat that was left pulled from it,placed in a pot with potatoes, onions, celery seed, and some thickening (flour and water),little salt and pepper...it's what Mama used to call turkey hash, and it's better than the turkey was! There's one of them sweet potato pies there too.

Thanks Joe-hadn't heard from you for so long I thought maybe you'd transferred to an unknown location somewhere near the arctic circle-either that or you were at the hospital.

Hi!
-
Well it's almost time for the holiday to end and get back to the real world.Gotta leave for Fremont in the morning. I got a letter from DMV this week, and I've got to get the mixer retitled, and pay another $50.My wife's name was on the title as co-owner and since their records indicated that one of the owners was deceased,I have to get a new title and tags. I don't see what difference it makes, but it makes them 50 more dollars. Nobody would have ever caught it ,but a few months ago DMV sent a form to everybody that owned a vehicle with antique tags on it.You had to fill it out and have it notarized before you sent it back,or they'd pull your tags.It just had questions about how you used the vehicle, and if you had another vehicle. Va. law restricts antique vehicle use to club activities, exhibits, tours, parades, test drives and so on,but you can't use it as a daily driver,or to and from work.A lot of people did abuse it,you see beat-up '71 pickups with antique plates on them all the time hauling firewood and beat-up '68 Biscaynes at the grocery store, vehicles people never had any intentions of restoring,or even fixing-vehicles with antique plates don't have to be inspected in Va. either. So,even though I'm good on the usage part, that's how they ran across the name on the title and hit me up for the " one time "$50 fee. again.

this is a nice looking B-67 that was on the F.L.Moore and Sons calendar this year-best looking truck on the calendar.Didn't say who owned it or where it was from. -
private Big Jim,you've been volunteered for a very dangerous mission if the General says it's a go...good luck
-
Absolutely! I'm not much in the kitchen, but when it's outdoors it's a different story-i've got 4 grills, all charcoal,in various sizes, the smoker stove, and the stew pot. My good friend "Big Jim" lives in Reynoldsville,Pa. and he's a master griller-and just happens to have a big brand new gas grill. He would be a member here, but his PC has been down for a long time.He took it in to be checked out and found there's nothing wrong with the computer, but his phone line was messed up,so he just uses his cell phone. If Barry think's it's a good idea to cook out too,i'm gonna volunteer Big Jim to bring his grill. I'll tell Jim he's been volunteered too-he'll think he's back in the Marines.

Thanks Paul,it WAS good! I started cooking it on the lowest rack in the oven, but if i'd raised it up 2 levels, which I had room enough to do, it probably wouldn't have gotten so brown.I put the extra drumsticks on the top rack at first, then flip-flopped them later. I coated it with olive oil and then coated it with a rub before I put it in the oven too,so that's why it's so dark .And even though it looks very well done,i've never smoked a turkey out doors that was dry-it's like it dries or seals on the outside. The first time I ever used one of these ovens I cooked a hind quarter of venison, kind of as a test run.I expected it to be too tough to eat,but surprisingly it was very tender and juicy.I think I cooked the turkey about 5 hrs.before the timer popped up,and I let it stay in a little longer.I like to check it with a meat thermometer too, just to be safe. The old leg bone test is still about the best way to tell for sure if it's done-you grab the end of it and twist it a quarter of a turn and if it feels like it's gonna pull off in your hand,it's done. I made 4 sweet potato pies too,and they were about the best I've ever had.Got 2 of them in the freezer.

I'm very sorry to hear this,i'll be praying for him too.

Done smoked that turkey-kind of blackened, but delicious. Hated to break in a new oven on the Thanksgiving turkey, but I didn't have much choice. This gas oven has a single bottom, where my old electric unit had two bottom panels, with an empty space in between. These pictures show the finished product, plus some extra drum sticks, the fire box, oven smoking, and plattered turkey. The sweet potater pies were delicious too, some of the best i've ever tasted-wait,is this the food forum,or trucks ? Oh...never mind. guess I should've resized my pictures too.

this is the closest thing to a shop i've got-a shed packed so full of crap I can barely get in it! -
As I said before,i've been driving a long time, but i'd never driven a quadruplex until I bought that B-53 mixer.Kinda like Freighttrain,I learned by doing it.I knew the procedure, but had never actually shifted one before.I shift it like a triplex on the road, only use lo-lo when i'm off-road making a pour...which is never. I did order the "Trucks With 2 Sticks" DVD's and noticed that most of the drivers in the videos scratched and scraped as many gears as I do,so then I felt pretty good about myself...for a while.I just don't drive it enough to get what you'd call really good at it,so I just take my time and shift one stick at a time. Usually if I try the "high speed-2 hand, arm through the steering wheel like I know what i'm doing shift" ,that'll be when I monkey up.

That's a nice unit there-you've got two classics in one.I didn't notice it was a Brown body until I enlarged it. H.H.Moore trucking used to have some old Brown trailers they made chip trailers out of. -
Yes,sounds good-I didn't know y'all were in Kittanning too, might stop by sometime just for curiosity and pretend like I want something.I also just read the new "Wheels of Time" and saw the announcement for next year's open house and truck show.Hope I can make it,i'm gonna try.

I hauled a load of pipeline pipe from Tightsqueeze to Anderson,S.C. Monday, and one Tuesday-3 pieces per load,it was 42" pipe 40' long. I was supposed to do it again today, but they didn't work in Anderson so I came in last night and loaded a load of kyanite going to Fremont,Oh. for Monday delivery.I was kind of glad because the traffic was as bad yesterday as I expected it to be today. There was a cop on every ramp and behind every bush in North Carolina too.I didn't get any Captain Morgan's so I bought some rum flavoring at Food Lion for the sweet potato pies, and i'm gonna start smoking a turkey early in the morning.I threw my old electric smoker oven away, and cleaned out and leveled up my new gas smoker oven that I found by the dumpster a while back.I know that sounds bad,but that's where I got it.It's in really good shape, and the old electric one was just worn out and burned out.I've cleaned it out, though it looked pretty clean to start with.I just put some charcoal in the bottom, and as it burns down I keep adding wood until the turkey's done-the longer you can cook it without burning it the better.I'll let you know how it turns out-dumpster oven smoked turkey!

Yeah Paul, nice shop and I like that B-67! I had a hard time posting pictures too,so i'd just mail them to Barry to scan and post for me.I like to think the problem was my old PC (STUPID COMPUTERS! ) Ever since I got this new one I haven't had any trouble. -
Yep,when I was a kid an 860 Gmc with a 6-71 would pass by the house about every day hauling shavings, and you could hear it about 3 or 4 miles away. Thanks for the compliment on the mixer-Jeff Moore keeps telling me I should take the mixer off it and put a flat bed on it,but I told him then it would lose it's character. You see lot's of B-models with flat bed bodys on them, but I haven't seen a B-model mixer at any truck shows.I did see a rusty one behind a wrecker going west on I-68 in Cumberland,Md. last year, but I went south on 220 and it continued west,so I don't know if it was a restoration project or if it was headed to the junkyard. The former I hope!

I'm glad you asked- I just cook the sweet potatos, you can boil or bake them, peel them and put them in a mixing bowl, put in about a quarter stick of butter, couple of eggs, brown sugar, about a half cup of milk,vanilla-or I used to season them with bourbon, but found the Captain Morgan's spiced rum is good in them, instead of using vanilla. The alcohol cooks out of course, but it leaves a nice flavor.Doesn't take much, half a cup maybe for a couple of pies.Mix all this stuff up good and pour it into pie shells and bake 'em 'til they're done. This is all right out of my head,I can find you a "real" recipe with exact amounts if you want, but this is close.
-
Hey Paul, don't know if it'll help you any,but I did take lots of H-model pictures at the Troutman,N.C. ATHS show. They're all posted on the diesel gypsy's site. And of course Hank's truck pictures has hundreds...no,thousands... maybe millions of pictures. Tom

Gee...Paul sorta took the words right outa my mouth!

I know what you mean,I made the same mistake in telling the body shop man " no hurry " one time.My mixer used to be solid red,and I wanted to get the fenders and top of the hood painted black. I parked it at the body shop in Appomattox right after the Railroad festival parade in October and it sat there outside the shop for weeks until I finally told him that I would like to have it done before Christmas parade,so he finally painted the fenders- the weekend before the parade.Never did get the hood painted.
-
I think the R and F-models might have been the last of the best of the bunch. That's why I like old trucks so much-they had "character". You used to be able to listen to a truck running and tell what engine it had-the cummins rattling, the cat knocking, detroits buzzing, and mack had a sound all it's own too.Now they all look and sound alike-not totally of course, but way more than they used to and they're all fiberglass and plastic. That's progress I guess.

Yeah it kind of snuck up on me, I didn't realize Thanksgiving was next week, thought I had another week to go for some reason.I just bought a turkey so I could smoke it,haven't done that since last year, and they're really good smoked. My Dad brought me a box of sweet potatos that he grew when he came up to the stew last weekend.I'll get some Captain Morgan's for flavoring and make some sweet potato pies. You guys are bad for my weight ! Sounds like work has picked up pretty well for you. That's good. Paul VS We're bad for my weight too! I'm 6 feet tall, and I got up to about 230 lbs. at one time, then after my wife passed away I lost down to under 200 but now I seem to be going the other direction again,at a rapid pace. A good sweet potato pie is hard to find anymore,so I make my own-they're real easy to make. I wouldn't give 5 cents for a punkin pie,but I love sweet potato pie. Some people say there's no difference, but there most certainly is.
