  1. Thanks! It's Axalta 77968 which is their match for classic Mack 400 red. I like it too!
  2. I meant to post these photos earlier...I had the pump and injectors rebuilt at a local shop, they charged $1,100 to rebuild the pump and $500 for the injectors. Looks like they paid a lot of attention to detail and the truck seems to run well (that is, without a load on it). I painted a bunch of parts. Some of those parts installed.
  3. I think you're right about the marketing strategies--GMC advertises more of a "professional" angle, Chevy more like a personal truck. Pontiac aimed more toward comfort, Chevy the more basic cars. But as you say, same vehicle, different image.
  4. I read online a while back that a guy drove a 673 duplex back in the day, he said you needed all 10 gears because a toothpick would pull the thing down!
  5. I looked at my parts trucks, one of them had a pulley with a lot less wear. The belts sit up in the top of the grooves and vibrate less now. The part number on it is 302GC2187A; they are still available from PAI.
  6. Yes, that's right.
  7. This is one of the ugliest trucks I've ever seen; sadly someone put a lot of time into building it. It's got a Toronado motor/trans setup with front wheel drive... it may need some TLC. https://www.ebay.com/itm/tow-truck/265109095644?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&autorefresh=true
  8. The 42000 at the end of the ad is probably the asking price.
  9. The belts sit down into the sheaves on the WP pulley, the pulley is definitely worn. Anybody know a part number or where I can get a new pulley? I will definitely try to get a matched pair of belts--I've seen those in the past.
  10. Pretty dang nice looking truck; this photo is before bed was installed. I see it has a gold engine in it, and I like the sign on the left front tire in the ebay pictures. Asking $50,000 obo. https://www.ebay.com/itm/133711225856?ul_noapp=true&autorefresh=true
  11. It actually does smoke but I had some round duct clamped to the exhaust pipe, carrying the smoke outside.
  12. I primed it before starting...had to fill the fuel filter and pour fuel in the inlet line before the primer would pick it up. I'll have to check out the valves. I put new belts on but the WP pulley is pretty worn...that may be the issue.
  13. Good ol' air starter! Nice video.
  14. One other question--I have to pour fuel in the inlet line to get the primer pump to work, even then a lot of pumping. It also loses prime, even though I put all new fittings, fuel lines, filter, etc. Will a bad primer pump cause it to lose prime? I had the injection pump rebuilt but I don't know if they checked out the primer and check valves.
  15. BR549's number is a good one, although I'm not familiar with the filter on your particular truck. That crosses to BALDWIN PF819, CARQUEST 86090, FLEETGUARD FF107, or LUBER-FINER L91F.
  16. I finally got the alternator bracket straightened out, installed the radiator, hooked up temporary fuel and air start tank, etc. One question; the fan belts vibrate between the WP and crank pretty heavily at certain RPMs, even though I have them pretty tight. Will worn sheaves cause them to vibrate? Any other ideas? I don't want to throw the belts.
  17. I used Nason DS138 which is supposed to be a good match for Mack engine gray but it's actually got a lot of green in it.
  18. I've got a vinyl record that came out of one of my dad's magazines (CCJ? Transport Topics?) in the 70's called "Sounds of the Turbine-Powered Peterbilt". These old prototype trucks are really cool!
  19. That is nice!!
  20. My dad had a couple of Astros back in 1974, some of the features were pretty nice. Low wraparound dash, big windshield, tilt wheel. They had low-mount side mirrors, I don't know how well those worked.
  21. I was working at a Cat dealer in 1981, we had a brand new 3208 come in that would make a sound like valves hitting the pistons every time you started it. We checked a lot of things over before the lead mechanic noticed the spaghetti line feeding into the intake. Come to find out it had an electric solenoid that put a shot of ether in there every time you started it, no thermostat to cancel it when the engine was warm.
  22. The control line port is 1/4 pipe by the way. Seems more like a 3/8 line; if they want you to use 1/2 they should have put 3/8 pipe threads there.
