  1. Keith, is that brown liquid in the cup a special rust-eating chemical? ;-) I decided to try the drill method; I was surprised at how easy the rivets drill. I started with a 1/8" and stepped up to a 1/2" bit, I kept the drill slow and lots of oil--it went fairly quickly. Chiseled the head off and the body popped right out.
  2. I like Irfanview...it's a free download and it's very easy to resize and save photos. You just hit Ctrl + R, select the size you want, and after that hit Ctrl + S to save. Doesn't take up a lot of space on your hard drive either.
  3. That floor pan is ridiculous! It looks like a map of Minnesota.
  4. I like your wrecker--it looks like it's ready to hook up and go to work.
  5. I may do that; it's not the appearance I'm worried about. The rust is really deep, like half way or more through the metal. In some spots it's right in the radius of the flange which is a bad spot for cracking.
  6. Yes, I measured outside the piece that's still in the bracket. Thank you for the suggestion--I'll try that.
  7. I don't know what it is about Craigslist, you get some real whackos offering stupid prices or trades for things.
  8. The tractors I've worked on have one switch that powers tractor and trailer lights.
  9. That Hayes is a fine looking truck! I'm not a fire fan but glad to see that Seagrave with Columbus Ohio on the badge...we're proud of the long heritage we have for manufacturing apparatus (and still make Sutphen and Horton here).
  10. Well, I got some more brackets and such removed and I found some heavy rust on the frame rails. They will probably suffice since this will just be a hobby truck, but I'd really like to replace them...does anybody know where I can get new or good used rails for an H67 tandem? I don't want to splice them. Second question: how do you remove the buck rivets in the crossmembers? I cut the head off one but the shank is swelled in the hole so it won't drive out.
  11. The bushings are 1.125" id, 2.125" od, 2.375" wide. In the photo, you can see the rubber has worn away on one side. If anybody has any suggestions for a source, I'd appreciate it!
  12. After you remove the bolt, drive a chisel in the gap to spread it, then spray with PB blaster and tap all around it to spread the oil around. I ground some grooves in the sides of the chisel to give it grip (it will pop right out if you don't).

    Battery

Are all the cables there? My truck has a series/parallel switch; if your truck has one I don't know if 3 batteries would work. You could read the voltage tag on the starter to see if it's 12 or 24 volts.
  14. Is that the original bumper or where did you get it?
  15. What a sad story. Cat engines had a great reputation in the US a couple of decades ago. Sounds like some mismanagement in Peoria - er - wherever they're moving their headquarters.
  16. An old Mack in a July 4th parade...now that's America!
  17. Regarding your photo uploads, have you tried dragging your pics to the box under your post? It works great on Firefox.
  18. Do you know what those things are being pulled by the tractors?
  19. His pinky finger accidentally hit the zero 3 times instead of 2. https://nashville.craigslist.org/cto/6196720714.html
  20. "Very rusty" is right...that's too bad because those old 4000's are good-looking trucks.
  21. Maybe the driver's seat has a toilet built in.
  22. That heavy hauler is a super nice truck but the H is suweeet!
  23. Is that an air horn valve hanging by the door hinge? I've never seen one like that.
  24. Do these keep the air pressure correct in the tires?
