  1. Green Dash, there is an egg farm in Croton--about 5 miles away. They were in the news a lot just a few years ago because of manure spills, flies, mistreatment of the birds, etc. A German guy owned it and he was banned from the ag business by the authorities because of the way he ran the place.
  2. This is a friend of mine using a tile plow in my field...when the plow gets deep and the tracks start slipping, he hooks up the 4386 to keep forward progress happening.
  3. I seem to remember they had small cam Cummins, maybe 250s but don't quote me on that. It was about that time that Cummins came out with a "Super 250" and the drivers really liked those.
  4. What does he mean, "brakes top pedal"? Did he intend to put "brake stop pedal"?
  5. PeterMack, that collection is amazing! If I'd seen that room when I was a kid, I would have had a heart attack.
  6. Back in the early 70's my dad had a fleet of trucks in Jacksonville Florida; one of the big carriers in that area was Ploof Transfer. Dad tried out some F models that Ploof ordered new as sleepers but when they arrived they were day cabs. Believe it or not, Mack put Mercury sleepers on them to try to please Ploof but they didn't like them so Mack was trying to sell them to us. I don't have any photos; has anyone seen a photo of a beast like that?
  7. I haven't heard of Allison engines, but I know they put Allis-Chalmers engines in trucks back then.
  8. Where is the story about the air start H models? I'd love to read that.
  9. If you go to craigslist.columbus.org and search for "Mack Semi" it's there.
  10. Those pictures of the Ford 9000 remind me of when I drove one once in the 80's, it had 4 air bags on the cab. When you turned the corner, the cab swayed so far it felt like you were going to roll over!
  11. This thing looks pretty clean; he doesn't list the price but it's been for sale for a while so maybe... ssqfj-3452962328@sale.craigslist.org

  13. I think the bulldog is nicer than the carpet. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MACK-FLOORMAT-/321032076718?hash=item4abf00bdae&item=321032076718&pt=Other_Vehicle_Parts&vxp=mtr
  14. How the heck do you set the valves with the engine running? I've done it on a motor with hydraulic lifters, but never one with solid lifters.
  15. Don't make fun of those driptroits...at least the frame from the engine back never rusts!!
  16. Found this on ebay...I'll bet it was sweet in its day. I like the polished air tanks; is that what you call an Ivy League engine? ;-] http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/B74-Mack-LWB-tractor-Project-B-series-Tandem-Diesel-/170915184557?pt=Commercial_Trucks&hash=item27cb56bfad#v4-39
  17. Dover, it's funny that you mention the few U's that haven't been rolled...my dad had a U600 in the early 70's and the first time it got rolled he replaced the cab and put it back on the road. The second time it got rolled (different driver), he gave up and scrapped it.
  18. That brings back memories...in about 1973 one of my dad's drivers was in a B67, hit a large pothole and ran into the side of a TV station in Jacksonville Florida. Needless to say they had a cameraman out there posthaste and it made the evening news. The truck didn't fare so well...the whole truck was pretty well bent.
  19. This guy's selling a trailer and he says once the trailer goes he's going to sell the B model...gorgeous truck! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972-Great-Dane-Dry-Van-Trailer-/110829225989?pt=Motors_Trailers&hash=item19cdefc805#v4-41
  20. There's a 1978 Super Liner in Illinois for $10,500...nice looking truck (on page 63 of the latest Wheels of Time). http://www.aths.org/uploads/HomePage/3dissue/index.html
  21. That's sad news. When I was a kid in 1973 my dad had a small fleet of mostly F600s in Jacksonville Florida. I remember Overnite traded in their H models for new Fs, and all those Hs were sitting in the weeds behind the Mack dealer rusting away.
  22. Notice the patch on the rear of the pass. side fender panel; this is to fix sagging caused by structural rust. $6k is pretty rich for that truck unless the drive train is like new.
  23. I just bought new rubber for my 1958 H67T at my local Mack dealer...it was the same for many years so your Mack dealer may have it.
