I watch this video every Memorial Day. Grandfathers, Uncles, Dad all served. My hats off and heartfelt thanks to all who have served.

Otherwise probably not your cup of tea... Just talent on display, no 64 channel mixers, lip sync, dubbing, etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4NUZJMCJ20 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yIMt-aZjCo

Her Majesty takes action, responding to frustrated Americans
grayhair replied to kscarbel2's topic in Odds and Ends
yeah, what gunner said -
Jeez that stinks. Hang in there brother. I hope your son is OK. Bright side of things, I assume he was driving a Mack. Could have been worse if he was driving a Daihatsu Charade or a Chevy Aveo or some little turd car. (No offense Aveo owners.)

There was also Pearce-Simpson CB radios and marine radios. I was an inside salesman at Pearce-Simpson in the early '70's and sold at least 25,000 of those CB radio to dealers around the U.S. I imagine by now they've all been crushed when the vehicles they were in went to the big junkyard in the sky...

Ah, whenever I hear someone mention wing plows I am reminded of a fellow whose house was on a downhill stretch of a rural country road outside of Buffalo, NY. The county plow truck drivers would sometimes come all the way down the hill without lifting the wing plow and clip off every mailbox along the way, post and all. Just lazy and mean. The mailboxes and their posts, thus sheared off, would flip end-over-end flying through the air. I've seen it and quite a sight to see. Well, this fellow got tired of replacing his mailbox. His solution: Got a piece of railroad track, drilled a hole 8 feet deep, inserted the railroad track, back filled with concrete, and mounted his new mailbox on top. Picture one big ass truck, V plow on the front, full load of salt in the box, getting up a head of steam downhill, really traveling now, air cloud of snow mist... That mailbox ripped the wing plow right off the truck. Payback at its finest.

US House: cars are cleaner, so we should use less ethanol
grayhair replied to kscarbel2's topic in Odds and Ends
Yeah, and that stinkin' ethanol blend ruined several weed-eaters, my power washer engine and a lawnmower. I now drive 100 miles round trip to buy ethanol-free gas and bring it home in 5 gallon containers. Me and hundreds of other guys. I see some guys filling up 55 gallon drums and bringing them home. Just another hidden cost that the ethanol proponents don't include in their self-serving calculations. As George Carlin said, "the problem is that Congress is a club, and you don't belong." -
Still funny!

That's where I think my Grandfather snapped this photo. Either there or the Elbo Room in Ft. Lauderdale. The old guy did get around...

"People should and do trust me" - Hillary Clinton

Den of thieves. I doubt the IRS audits any of these turkeys. -
Looking very nice!! What master cylinder did you use? And, wondering how you decided exactly which one would work best. Thanks.

Gents, I get that some of you have reservations about Trump. That said, can you imagine how bad the alternative (Hellary) will be for us. She will be a terrible continuation of Oblamer's various agendas. Forget for a minute the almost certain loss of your 2nd amendment rights, the continuing invasion by illegals, an ever-expanding intrusive EPA, the continuing loss of U.S. manufacturing jobs, and the doubling-down on government health care. THE NEXT PRESIDENT WILL PROBABLY APPOINT FOUR SUPREME COURT JUSTICES. IF IT IS HELLARY, SHE WILL APPOINT CRAZY LEFT WINGERS AND LIFE AS WE KNOW IT WILL CHANGE FOREVER. I'll gladly take my chances with a Trump presidency. Paul Ryan, the Bushes, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Mitt Romney, John Beaner, Chucky Schumer, Mitch McConnell, and their ilk don't care. They'll be just fine, hanging out in Congress, sucking on the government teat, and doing the bidding of their lobbyist masters. It is us, we the people, that will be screwed, permanently...

PPC Transportation (Pilgrims Pride Corp.) has a sizable fleet of Macks they use for live haul from the farms to their various processing plants across the South. This photo taken yesterday at Pilgrim's plant in Lufkin, TX. Trucks being unloaded all day long, seems like about one every 15 minutes.

Probably owned by a little old lady and just driven to church on Sundays. Not sure if it was garage kept.

This little bugger won't hold still long enough for a decent photo. Cute little guy though with a lot of personality. Not a bulldog but rather a Leopard Catahoula.

Wow, that really stinks. And then when you think about it, somewhere there is a manager or managers who are OK with how things are done. My experience is that the line workers are usually putting things together properly, but if the quality of the components is poor, they're just working with what was given to them and ignoring the quality issues they are told to ignore. Some of the stuff that goes on at some engine plants is surprising. I remember years ago touring the Chevy engine plant in Tonawanda, NY, when they were assembling 427 and 454 Mark IV big block engines. A worker would install 8 piston and rod assemblies into a machine. Then, the machine shoved all 8 of them into the block in one stoke. What I couldn't understand at first was why it took so long for the worker to hand load the 8 piston/rod assemblies into that machine. After awhile I figured out what was happening. The bore holes in the block were so varied in diameter that each piston/rod assembly had to be individually selected to match a particular bore hole so as to have acceptable piston to bore clearance. No two bore holes were the same diameter within a reasonable tolerance. So, one mistake by that man, like one oversize piston jammed into an undersized bore, and there you have the engine that would have gone into your new Corvette or truck or whatever. Or you buy a brand new crate engine for your special project and it blows up. I was shocked to see that process, but then maybe that's the way it is commonly done and I'm just under-informed.

Mack Trucks laying off 400 workers at Macungie
grayhair replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
I get the need to reduce workforce according to market conditions. But that' s a hell of a note, finding out you are unemployed, not by notice from your employer, but instead getting a text message from your wife. If that is in fact the truth, then it really points to very low-brow management. No wonder the generation coming up, for the most part, don't trust any employer and view most jobs as temporary. (Who can blame a youngster when they see their parents treated this way.) For comparison, now vs. then, I offer this example: 50 years ago when I was a 17 year old teenager I was living with my parents. One day the doorbell rang and I answered the front door. There were two men standing there. My Dad had been very sick and unable to work for some time. These two men traveled 400 miles to our house to terminate my Dad. They apologized to him, and then apologized to my Mother. And after my Dad died, they made pension and medical payments for my Mother for the next 40 years. One of those two men was the President of Allied Signal and the other was the Chairman. I've always had great respect for the way they did what they had to do. So there's your comparison, now vs. then. Oh how things have changed... -
Nope, was unaware and didn't see old truck graveyard. I would like to though next time in AZ. I did see Pancho Villa and General Scott.
-
So that is the question... Under what circumstances would you pay someone $100.00 per hour to buff your truck while you watch? Or $150.00 / hour if you help?

There is so much cool stuff to see in Arizona. if you don't have school-age children to take with you, then the best time to go is April or May (before kids are out on on summer vacation) or September/October after they are back in school. Much less crowded at tourist spots like the Grand Canyon. Other stuff to see is old mining town, Jerome, AZ, and Sin Agua Indian ruins. Couple more photos. Photo doesn't do justice to the Grand Canyon.
