  1. Not a bad weekend inspite of the rain. I got to pick up a couple of parts trucks. A B422S that had been converted to diesel. It should run , makes some smoke but won't quite fire. I suspect fuel rack may be stuck in pump. It has old style pump with hydraulic governor. I'm not real familiar with those but I guess I will learn. If anyone has info on these please enlighten me. The other truck is a B60T may not be much hope for the engine it seems to be quite stuck. But plenty of other good parts. As I get into these trucks I will list any parts surplus to my needs. Chuck
  2. That would be a tachograph. They were used to record speed, RPM and time of day on a round graph paper the size of a CD. Chuck
  3. Thanks for the heads up. I made a deal to buy that truck. Found out it is a B422S. It's been converted to diesel and has a very early 673 with hydraulic governor and a duplex trans. Chuck
  4. Hi folks, Does anyone know if there is a way to find the model year of a Trailmobile flatbed from the VIN number. I emailed them and got no responce. I tried a parts vendor who deals with them and they told him. I have the wrong VIN number the info will be on the ID tag. This trailer is old the number I have is stamped into the front of the kingpin plate. The first two digits are 41 I think this may be the year. The last digits are the length 29' 6". If any has any other ideas please let me know. I am hoping to register this and pull it with one of my B models. Thanks Chuck
  5. Thanks for input folks. It looks like this thing may use a 90 adapter. I had a chance to see another one that was complete. I also checked my line sheet and it looks like it lists some sort of adapter. I guess it isn't as simple as my R model that goes staight in with no adapter. I have a few Mack cables in stock (different lengths) and they have a few different drive ends in a package but this trans has a square the same size as the cable. I think I may have to cut down one that is a little long and get some ends and a ratio adapter. The hardware supplier I use has the cable ends and crimper I just need to check on the adapter. Oh well I guess it's all part of the fun. My highlight tody was when I came back to the barn and found a pair of brand new 11.00R 22 Goodyears my tire man dropped off. Boy do those look impressive. I guess they should for the price. Chuck
  6. I've been busy lately working on one of my B models. I am trying to get it ready for my son to practice for his CDL and take his test. I need to get the speedo working and I need some help. First off it never worked since I had it (I didn't care). It seems the original owner may have removed the cable and possibly the adapter (it only shows 1 mile). It has a quad trans and I can find the drive but a cable wont fit the pencil gear has a very small square drive. Do I need a adapter ? Any info would be great. Thanks Chuck
  7. Nice truck. It seems strange to hear the word restored involved with a 1985 truck. In my little mind they are still new. Or at least they were when I was working on them. I think this my mean I am getting old too. Chuck
  8. Rob, It looks like you found your way there. I didn't have the site address handy when I posted last. I've always liked those old 2 stroke Detroits myself. I have several of them in Allis Chalmers crawlers. Good luck with your project. Chuck
  9. Rob, Have you been to the Detroit Diesel message board? Someone over there will have your info. As I remember most all that stuff will interchange on a Detroit. Chuck
  10. I have a missing lf vent window latch and the right side doesn't work too good on one of my B models. Anyone know of availibility or a good substitute? Thanks Chuck
  11. Don't take this the wrong way a 237 is a great engine but it's not the right choice for a 13 speed. The 237 pulls torque from 1200 to 2100 the 13 speed will keep the rpms 1600 - 2100. The 237 was made for the 5 or 6 speed. That was made the maxitorque combination amazing when it came out in 1965. Also the 13 speed may not be able to handle all the torque of the 237. Generally the 13 speed is rated to handle torque at 1600 and when the 237 starts to pull at 1200 you will hear the gears whining (untill they eventually fail). A 237 with a 6 speed works real nice in a DM. 5 reverse gears are great for off road or backing into a paver box. Chuck
  12. Do you know who made the haul? The Autocar looks like Marino Crane's. They have some good looking prime movers. I've seen them at shows and working. Chuck
  13. Hi folks, Does anyone know what the torque should be on the brake lining to shoe bolts. Four bolts per block , iron shoes. Thanks Chuck
  14. Hi folks, I'm putting together a new engine for my R model. I'ts based on a 300hp tip fan + water intercooled engine. A 12 speed overdrive trans will behind it. I am looking specs / suggestions on fuel settings and turbo size to make maximum reliable hp. We are planning to use Robert Bosch pump and nozzles. Thanks in advance for any help. Chuck
