  1. What was Dodge's market share of class 7 and 8 in 1975 when they decided to exit the market? Seems to me it was around 5%. Scary. Like Dodge back then, I think it would help if Mack had more dealers. Or dealers period. I live in Los Angeles and I don't even know where the nearest Mack dealer is. Maybe somewhere in Long Beach?
  2. In the classes Ford currently competes in.
  3. Nice, but I think Ford is loosing their once-dominant position in U.S. government/municipal/utility sales. I don't think it's their current product so much as the competition has gotten better.
  4. Who makes the cab on the Autocar Xpert? Looks Asian.
  5. As I remember the 8V-71 and 6V-95 Brigadier's had a pretty big doghouse to clear the air compressor which was off the back if the engine driven by the timing gears. I am thinking all the 9500 series cabs are pretty much the same, you might just need the doghouse and the cab floor over the transmission, which I think was bolted in anyway. I don't think the 8000 series Brigadiers with gas or 3208 power had a doghouse.
  6. When Fred Diaz was running Ram Truck around the time of the creation of FCA, it was reported that he was interested in bringing Iveco to North America. No question it would have been quite an undertaking to establish a new line of commercial trucks in the U.S., but with Navistar on the ropes and Ford and GM essentially out of the market at the time, they might have had a chance. Just think what a competitor they would be today if it had worked out.
  7. Looks like one of those Transtar 4090's with the 12V-71.
  8. More likely these would end up at International dealers than Ford dealers. The new VW's are Cummins powered, so they would fit will in International's current line up. I think Traton will eventually be spun off of VW, so Ford may not have access to them anyway.
  9. Early Astro 95 for sure. Coach mirrors, probably a Cummins judging by the single stack and air cleaner on the right. Heavy front axle with 6 spoke wheels. Nice tractor, but what a mess behind it. Never saw anything like that in California!
  10. There were these: https://www.allpar.com/model/ram/dodge/shelby-dakota.html
  11. What was the name of the book? There is a picture of the Crackerbox with the planetary axles in the book 'GMC Heavy Duty Trucks 1927-1987'. Says it was special order for 5 R's. Can only imagine what that beast was like to drive......
  12. I think the one in your other thread with the planetary axles is the 12V-71 Crackerbox. This one is probably just a 238!
  13. That's all pretty obvious, but valid points. Funny thing, I just checked current new truck inventory at a local commercial truck dealer that used to be a big Ford store, but is now a 'truck center'. 2 new F-650's in stock, both leftover 2017 models, no bodies. 28 FTR's new in stock, all 18's and 19's, many road ready with dry van and stake bodies. Pretty clear what is selling around here in class 6. They did have a good selection of F-550's though.
  14. Yes, in the event that Brazil's economy does improve. But regardless of that, I don't see GM actually manufacturing commercial trucks in Brazil. I am thinking GM markets Isuzu trucks through their dealer network in Brazil.
  15. I wonder if GM would ever get back into commercial trucks in Brazil. I doubt there is a sound business case for it at the moment, but at some point there could be for an Isuzu re-badge. GM sells Isuzu's in Chile, and Isuzu is not active in Brazil.
  16. Oh yeah, that was an experimental high fuel efficiency deal:
  17. Yellow had a lot of 8500 single axle city tractors, but all the ones I ever saw were short nose with the sloped hood.
  18. Interesting. Freightliner was using Powertrain Integration's 8.0L propane engine. PSI took Powertrain Integration over sometime ago, perhaps they are streamlining their engine offerings. In any event, both the PSI 8.8L and the P.I. 8.0L are based on the old 'Big Block' Chevy V-8. The PSI 8.8L is also available in CNG and gasoline fueled versions.
  19. It sounds like they put bigger tires on the F-550 and called it a day. GVW is about 2K#'s under the GM/NAV. But, that's the move I would have made. I have a feeling the F-600 will be a hit, and will eat F-650 sales.
  20. That is about the truck Isuzu was contemplating bringing to the U.S., wasn't it? Maybe Isuzu will reconsider.
  21. There are discussions of these photos on some Ford enthusiast websites, and the consensus is that the vehicle is a chassis development mule, and the modified Ranger body components are just used to make it drive-able. The Bronco will look nothing like that.
  22. Didn't Wabco just buy G.E.'s locomotive operation?
  23. Back to Brazil, things are going great for Traton: https://www.reuters.com/article/volkswagen-traton-results/vws-traton-gets-2018-profit-boost-from-brazil-higher-sales-idUSL5N20K3VC Probably be even better with Ford out of the picture.
  24. Story was the Bighorn was his doing. Maybe the Diamond Reo Raider too! I think his son runs Spartan now.
