  1. Spent a few hours wandering around the show and shine, and took a few pics, but because i used the wifes digital camera, the sizes are too big to upload......sad, cuz there was a really nice 1964 B-61 there, and a few other good lookin workin type rigs. when i figure out how to get them online, i will post the link. Didn't catch many pulls, as the little one was quite miserable. Oh well, maybe next year.
  2. There's one, maybe two, in my gallery in RRR Inc. Likely in the dark. But I will get some good ones next week for you as the driver will be on holidays. 88 RD 688S tandem with an e6-350 and Eaton fuller 8ll. Used to be a dump, but converted to roll off. Only about 400,000km on the clock. . Was painted a few years ago with a cold ply roofing sprayer. Just the paint is peeling, otherwise, a solid machine. Might be going up for sale in the near future, according to boss man, a new (2012 or 2013) granite is on its way......we'll see.......
  3. we had a guy work for us in the spring who knew EVERYTHING about driving a truck, exxxxcept how to turn off the RD........said he turned the key and the gauges etc. turned off, but the motor kept running. So Nick and I went and showed him the shut off for the fuel pump.....THE BIG RED SLIDE on the dash below the SHUTOFF label. Figured everything was good.......till the next morning, when the batteries were dead because HE LEFT THE DAMN KEY ON. Radio....on, dash lights.....on, brakes lights.....on, warning buzzer......on etc etc.....cant fix stupid....or "right out of school" hot shots with nothing between their ears.
  4. A local waste hauling fleet has a pile of mack R's of all years with auto tarpers on them, and a few of them have the weirdest looking exhaust stacks......snaking all over the damn place to clear the rolls, motors, tarps.....one day ill see that fella "Russ" at the dump with his mid 90's R roll off and snap a pic......so many bends in that damn pipe, im suprised that thing can breath. On a side note, i also enjoy "sneaky" under body exhaust. our RD had the stack removed (by a previous owner; dont who or when, as we have owned that thing three friggin times) and re-routed under the frame, cant even see it if your not looking for it. looks clean, very well hidden behind the hyd. oil tank, too bad the truck is in such rough visual shape.
  5. I needed some steers a little bit ago, and wanted something a little more narrow than the 425, thought maybe 385's. A bit more wheel cut, same size as my lift axle tires, and he had some herc 385's in his shop,.so I wouldn't have to wait a day for the 425's to come in, but he he told me I would need new rims, as 425 and 385 use different rims.....oh well....turning circle of a house remains..... As to 11r22.5 steers for off road use, I think they are useless.....true, floaters will sink, but not near as fast as donuts. There's a few roll offs around here than run skinnies up front and while they have a better turning circle, after a good rain at the landfill, the need help to get out.
  6. Just stumbled on this post....thanks for the info.
  7. IMHO, truck suspension serves only one purpose; keep the frigging wheels on the ground. Air may ride nice, but the load equalization is just too damn slow. More than enough time to lift a wheel/axle and screw yourself anywhere but the highway. my 2011 GU triaxle has Hendrickson haulmaxx rubber blocks, and for demo and construction, it's perfect. Rides a bit hard bare rail, but even with high and heavy 50yd cans on, stable as can be in the corners. Empty, well, she might as well be a race car.... only ever got stuck once, and that was operator error. Our 88 rd has walking beams and mack top loads, so I assume it's a mack suspension system. Despite no up and down movement other than the rubber bushings between the pivot mounts and the frame, that old dog rides better than mine. Only driven it a few times, and rode with Nick and few times, but empty it puts the new dog to shame....
  8. i also am a fan of rain caps, if done right.....
  9. i have nothing relevant to post, but I must say, I LOVE your signature line.....
  10. im currently running hendrickson haulmaxx on my roll off. rides a bit rough bare rail, but loaded, its great. excelent stability off road, keeps all the drives on the ground. one thing i will say; with the walking beams under the axle,.you loose a bit of ground clearance, which led to the one and only time i got stuck. not much lower than the center section of the axle housing, but low enough they hit the ground and lifted the wheels.
  11. I'm not positive, but our 88 rd has a similar setup, minus the reinforcing plate. Next time Nick has the rails up, I'll snap a few pics. Edit: ours is not camelback probably won't help much. Sorry. Should maybe pay attention to what I'm reading....
  12. That's where I luck out, we do mostly (but not exclusively) commercial and industrial flat roofs. Not to too bad most of the time. But the most recent pics I uploaded were downtown Guelph, and the tightest spot I have ever had to wiggle into. Should have taken some pics of the overhead wires strung all over, and the ridiculous placement of poles to the buildings....... The odd church or school in residential areas, but, that's part of the fun.....hahaha...yea, fun.........
