  1. Mack went to a galvanised cab in the 80's. My 84 model copped one, and it's held up really well for rust. Fingers crossed you got one too.
  2. They don't use the term "synthetic", rather "lithium complex grease". So it's anyone's guess...
  3. "Now I like a drink as much as the next man, unless of course the next man is Mel Gibson" Ricky Gervais
  4. Yeah I used to use some general purpose grease. It's not bad stuff, and I'll still use it in slack adjusters, s cams, steering uni's ect. But anything that will generate high centrifugal force I'll use the new stuff. Its a s.o.b. to pump out of the grease gun!
  5. Has anyone tried Bigfoot grease? Downunder it's sold by moreys. In the USA it might be by Lucas or some other brand. It's very tacky, if you squeeze it between your fingers and stretch it apart it's strings like mozzarella cheese. Anyway, I've put some in my thrust bearing and the difference is night and day. Hardly any vibration through the pedal when I'm using it. It's good in uni joints also. Basically it doesn't get thrown out as much.
  6. Welcome to the dog house! Post aom pics when you get a chance, as we all love to perve on old macks.
  7. That's why we pull B-doubles or road trains. Two semi's couldn't come near a road train for fuel economy. Streamlined or not.
  8. Had a bad crash here the other day too Billy. I'm not sure of the cause, but two were killed in a caravan and two child have become orphaned.
  9. Fuel is one thing, but cooler, denser air from a more efficient intercooler would also make more power?
  10. Would any performance be gained from going to a chassis mounted air to air intercooler? I was told maybe 10-15hp. Any truth to that?
  11. I'm of the belief it's a lower grade stainless steel. I've had grade 304 on car exhausts before it it's super shiny like chrome almost. Then I've had other car stainless car exhausts and looked nothing like stainless.
  12. I think the front engine mount is different from e6 to e7. Or so I was told.
  13. Sounds a little counterproductive. Around here a rigid tipper (dump truck) normally costs more than a day cab prime mover. Might be cheaper to just buy a prime mover. But, if you have a good deal, then you could always add a few inches just to make it look complete.
  14. If you find a truck your really keen on, it's worth getting a professional look over it. My brother was looking at a truck, looked great and was right spec. Cummins and Kenworth looked over it, they told him litres of fuel burned, done a blow by test and found a quite a few little things wrong with it. Helps to know exactly what you have, and some bargaining power to get a better price.
  15. Way to go Bob! After all that running/walking I bet the beer and pizza was awesome.
  16. Nice to hear from you again mate. Lots of cool pics, must of been some trip!
  17. I was surprised by how many people find out the gender of their unborn baby. To each their own. We never found out ours, it was a good surprise when you finally found out. Ain't many good surprises left in the world. In saying that, it's a clever way of doing it. How did they do it?
  18. But that's trucking... we just spent 39k on an engine in a truck that's worth 50k. It happens, and I know lots of people who do the same.
  19. Very interesting. Does your knowledge know no boundaries?
  20. Happy birthday mate. I normally buy my missus truck parts, if she doesn't want them then I can usually find a use for them.
  21. Aw that's a bit rough! A little conversation wouldn't have hurt...
  22. Looking good! I like the colour but I'm a bit biased. That's the best way to get underneath it, other than employing little people.
  23. Some good quality work going on there!
  24. It's just an engine swap. People have been doing it for years. You could buy one with a cummins in it already, but you could be buying a lemon. These truck are 30 years old now, without proper maintenance it's a big risk. If you know your truck is good then I'd still consider doing it. Just giving a different point of view.
