  1. Sides finally on, metal warped a bit from welding the wheel arch cut outs but managed to get it sitting nice.
  2. I have went a different route with the trailer. My mates brother got made redundant so gave him the job of repairing the trailer. Its slow, but I get a more hands on role and im saving as lot too! Installed some 20ft container beams while we had it apart, plus new brake boosters.
  3. Aus got the magnum, sold as a mack. Sure was odd looking, but was before its time. Re sale is poor, but you you get a good drive line for little bucks. Interesting at the end of that last article it mentions "e7 has potential to go up to 500hp with increased capacity". What a shame that never happened!
  4. Must feel pretty good to get this far! Nice that he made a friend too. Everyone's winning.
  5. Yeah I heard the same Paul. I know locally he would use a pilot vehicle then wipe his ass with them and not pay them and move onto the next one. Plus, he has been broke before, this is his 2nd time and I bet he will start up again and do it all again. Too much of that thing happens in this industry. Also, he builds his truck with his wallet! Takes them to shows puffs his chest out like he is the man and claims he deserves a ribbon. While the true enthusiast like yourself and I, the only trophys we want are stone chips. I do like his old macks but!
  6. Steel wool or sand paper. Get a few courses, start rough and work your way fine. Use soapy water or kerosene as a wetting agent. They look pretty good, I'd say you got a good deal. Can't wait to see the finished results.
  7. Done! Do us proud!
  8. Is there an agency that deals with this sorta stuff in the USA? In Aus we have consumer affairs which is too protect the consumer, or also the small claim tribunal which I belive is a court system for similar situations. All in all, it's a lousy predicament! I'd arm yourself with knowledge from other differential specialists and try talking to them a bit more. Best of luck!
  9. ya probably wanna check if it's legal to put an older engine in first. In some places it might not pass emissions. If that checks out, then you would wanna think about resale. And the only other thing I could think of is throttle, etech probably had an electronic pedal, so you may need to source a throttle linkage setup. Just a few ideas to mull over in your head.
  10. Welcome matey. Couple of nice trucks you have there!
  11. That's a rather low tunnel isn't it? Most fridge pans or tautliners here are around 4.3m high. Anyway, you done good Timmy boy!
  12. no expert here, but that's high engine hours on the one you wanna put in... But I can see your logic so your not crazy. Will you be doing the engine swap yourself? I haven't helped much sorry mate, but I'll keep following this thread and see how you go.
  13. Another 4 pics and you'd have yourself a calendar. Were you supervisor for the day? Hope she didn't steel any parts.
  14. Looks nice! Red ones go faster.
  15. Not sure if other guys would agree, but the mack gearbox seems noisier than a roadranger, so a noisy gear change isn't a problem. Maybe that's lack of insulation in the cab? Also, mine seems pretty happy changing up or down with no clutch. Ya just have to get used to driving it. Every truck is different. Enjoy your new toy.
  16. I wish I could help ya, but my accelerator pedal is on the right side (yours being left/wrong side). Are there any bushes or linkages that are worn?
  17. I would try and get it sitting level then maybe add 1/2inch or an inch. Don't think that much will give you any trouble. Depending on how low it is now and how much you raise it you may need new U bolts.
  18. That's clever, and cool! I'd rather do that than buy a newer truck. End result is amazing, good on them!
  19. Hi Paul. I wouldn't say it's common practice to idle the engine overnight, but it's not entirely uncommon. Most long haul truck here in wa will have a diesel powered aircon unit, but if not or if it broke its common to idle overnight. Fatigue is a big deal now days so a good night sleep is a must.
  20. Awesome job! Nice and shiney, and over all a classy looking mack.
  21. Solid tyres! Got a sore back just thinking of it.
  22. I take it the original air filter for the tip turbine are getting hard to find?
  23. Think it was more a stab in the dark. But I know manufacturers do a few little tricks like that. Another one I heard was giving an extra 20hp while on cruise control. Anyway, will mack plug in and give you full power in the lower gears?
