  1. Got a chance to look at my puff limiter today. It was never working since I bought it. The air line from the park brake was blocked off. Unblocked it easy enough, but it seems like it always has air coming from it. From reading earlier post, I know this isn't supposed to work like this. Anyone had this happen? It still starts fine, and it has cleared up a lot of the black smoke. So I'm happy so far.
  2. You gotta nice shine on that red paint. Must be pretty happy about that.
  3. You got one of the best offices in the world!
  4. I use a needle on a grease gun. Bit faster and bit less messy. And I pack a bit of grease in between the bearings as well as a bit of moreys. I tighten them up just enought to remove and free play, and that if I push the tyre from 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock it should do at least one full revolution.
  5. Hey Chris, that's a real shame! Is it worth asking the difference between each spring pack? Some guys on here might know if it'll work or not. Cheers all the same, for letting me know how you went.
  6. And what price tag would these thing be bringing? I know buying an imported and rhd converted one is over $100,000. Hope that comes down a bit.
  7. I was wondering about the difference between the 2v and 4v also. On paper, the 4v has more torqure. I even bought a worn out 4v with the intent on rebuilding it at a later stage. But the difference in real world performance would be hardly noticeable. The fact some guys are comparing them to a cat just tells you how great these little engines are.
  8. Here is a link http://www.donovanspring.com/mack_camelback.html Let me know what info you can find.
  9. From the album: Just a few trucks

    Loaded up and coming home.
  10. What we do if we ever need to clean underneath is back a flat top up to a loading ramp. Then we drive the truck to be cleaned up the ramp, onto the trailer but leave the drives on the ramp and set the park brakes. And with someone watching slowly drive the bottom truck forward till the steer is just at the back of the trailer. It's a bit unorthodox but while ever there is someone watching it's safe and effective. Having said all that, I like your way more.
  11. What's that slim dusty song... "There lies a workhorse" Truer words could not be said.
  12. Are your indicators bulb type or led?
  13. What about the tapered leaf camelback springs? How much smoother do they ride? I was thinking for myself, if I ever had to replace a spring pack it might be a good time to upgrade to them.... Your thoughts?
  14. A better pic to show how bent it is.
  15. Vlad, you have a very keen eye! I'm guessing your talking about the e6 engine? I bought that cheap at an auction for the hell of it. Figure I'll get around to building it one day with a little help from my friends. The trailer - It is a lot of work, but once finished it'll be almost new. A few boiler makers have told me the time consuming (and therefore costly) part is taking it apart.
  16. Yeah I have a local guy who is pretty good at this stuff. Trouble is, getting him to do it. He is always busy! I noticed you were pulling yours apart. It's not a job you'd like to do everyday! What are you going to do for ramps? Are they going to be hydraulic or spring?
  17. That's a good read. Interesting little bit of mack history.
  18. with regard to the e7, someone here might clarify but I am under the assumption they have a different fuel pump and don't have a puff limiter. My e6 has puff limiter disconnected and is putting fuel in the oil.
  19. Correct. That's some good spying! I learnt to drive in these trucks. They were all bought new by my dad. They are a popular fleet truck in aus for b-double application.
  20. Yeah Paul, I am buying a 12m length of 5 inch i beam, for the coaming rail. And 6 of the cross beams need replacing. Actually, the top of the chassis is 10mm wider than the bottom, due the the weight stretching the cross beams. Plus the ramps and hydraulics. It's a decent size job, but a drop deck with ramps still attract a big price tag. Not that I'll be selling this one.
  21. Just a little update. Have to bring all the bottom floor up. The square tubing was left open at the front to dirt and water, and was rusted through and squashed. Also removed the checker plate from the beaver tail. That was hard work, as there was 4 crossmembers in the space of 600mm and floor was attached to each one. Not much more until the body builder gets it.
  22. That's a beautiful truck! Thanks for the pics.
  23. Paul, it makes me wonder... If the government lowered the speed limit instead of putting pollution control all over our trucks whether the outcome would be the same? I know it would be an unpopular decision but with fuel economy becoming such a big deal, it is to me a logical decision.
