  1. Thank you for all those suggestions. I have posted a few photos in the member's gallery if you'd like to see the truck. Best regards, John
  2. Rob and Glenn: No unusual noise but we'll definitely look at those overheads to start. I'll keep you posted. Regards, John
  3. Rob: We tried to drive it for about 15 minutes but it did not seem to help. She was blowing lots of smoke and fuel was running out the bottom of the exhaust stack probably because that one cylinder was not firing. Thanks for your help. Regards, John
  4. A friend has a 1950 LJSW and it has not been run very much-mostly idling. We were moving some other equipment in the garage last week and left the LJ idling some distance outside from the door. When we got around to it, the engine was missing on one cylinder and raw fuel was leaking from the bottom of the exhaust. We tried to get the temperature up by driving it to see if perhaps the accumulated carbon may have blocked something. That did not help and I am puzzled as to what happened. There is no fuel in the oil but I'm not sure that rules out a cracked piston. Perhaps a stuck exhaust valve might be the culprit? The 190 Cummins has been well maintained and only has 103,000 miles on it but it has not been run up to operating temperature for years. When it has been moved and left running, it has run very well but not for long periods of time. Any suggestions before we start tearing it down would be most appreciated. Best regards, John
  5. Bonjour Patrice et bienvenu au BMT web site. Quel Mack anciens etes-vous prefere? Jean
  6. I did get the feeling that there were some problems and some hard feelings within the PFD when talking to the historians on a few Saturday mornings. And, yes, I was told matter-of-factly that they really did not care about old equipment that had been part of the department and had been passed on to another fire department. Anyway, I appreciate the heads-up. I'll sit tight until we can talk over the phone or meet in person. Best regards, John
  7. B613T: Many thanks. Did you enjoy the show? The weather was perfect, wasn't it? A few folks approached me at the show and thanked me with some emotion and feeling for what we did. Best regards, John
  8. Paul: I will try to get it to Batavia but we have had some issues getting a title for the truck. It may not happen this year but certainly next year. We are also working on a 1983 MH with E9, 9 speed, 4:19 rears, Newway air ride suspension and an air ride cab. I have always liked cab overs in general and Mack COE's in particular so I hope this should be a nice truck when we're finished. I just bought a Mack fire truck too but that will stay in storage until next year. Best regards, John
  9. I spoke to Jack Wright and Jack Oswald although Harry McGee was also mentioned. The truck started at Ladder Co 20 and I think I'll fly into Phily for a weekend and show up at the fire house with photos and questions. Angelo wants me to take the truck to the main muster in Syracuse at the end of July and I may do that if I can arrange transportation. By the way, please provide contact info for all of those people that you mentioned in your reply. I will run them all down and see what info they have for me. Many thanks in advance. Best regards, John
  10. It has been a labor of love, so to speak. Someone at the Macungie show has promised to send pictures of the Pine Creek Railroad that I have not seen before so that might be an interesting addition. Once again, the WOT editor chose to use only a small amount of the 54 pages that I have assembled so at this point, I think its time to publish it as a book. I'll keep you posted. I don't get a chance to drive it much so I managed to take it for a spin around the park on Sunday morning after most folks had left. Very enjoyable indeed. This situation is about to change quickly. Best regards, John
  11. Yes, that is correct. It is owned by Wayne King, a friend of mine from Owen Sound, ON. You can see a picture of it in the ATHS Show Time 12th Issue. He found his in a scrap yard and it was in very poor condition. It may be that #1463 was scrapped but I don't know for sure and the Fire Museum in Philadelphia could not help. I also do not know how old the tiller units are-probably 50's vintage? Anyway, thanks for the tip, Superdog. Regards, John
  12. Angelo: Yea, I bought that one. It's an interesting story and, as usual, I want to put something together in a book form but talking to some of the folks at the museum in Philadelphia was helpful but I think I need to visit the museum in person. I'll post a picture. Yes, I'll be at Macungie with the Procter Mack. See you then! By the way, that's a nice B95! Best regards, John
  13. I wondered if anyone could provide some information on the following Mack B85F's with serial numbers 1462, 1463 and 1464. They were sold to the City of Philadelphia in 1962 but that's all the info I have. I believe that they replaced American LaFrance tractors and were mated with the American LaFrance tiller units which were equipped with 100 ft aerial ladders. Thanks in advance. Regards, John
  14. Randy: Would you happen to know anyone who is really knowledgeable about Mack B85F's? In particular, serial numbers 1462, 1463 and 1464?? Best regards, John
  15. I don't think anyone is thinking about NOT going. See the discussion thread on the show under Todays Topics but go back 3 months and look for the posting on April 20 by Doug Maney. Regards, John
  16. It's June 14-15; download the show poster at [url="http://www.antiquetruckclubofamerica.org/. It's right on the home page. Best regards, John
  17. David: I took a few pictures of a Brockway Mixer over the weekend-hope they cheer you up. They're in the Gallery under "Visit to A&A Parts" Best regards, John
  18. Paul: Scan them. If you don't have a scanner, send the photos to me and I'll scan them and return them to you along with a CD with the scanned photos on it. Regards, John
  19. The "For Sale" corral will have the following trucks: Wayne King says he'll bring the '57 B873SX and Matt Pfahl will bring his two B-60's. Pictures are attached. See you all there!!! Regards John
  20. Jay: I saw this picture of a Siebert B-model on www.oldmacksrus.com; the picture is posted here for your reference. Best regards, John
  21. Skip: It may have been Roger Gerhard's one day all Mack Show usually held on the first Saturday of October in Lititz, PA. Go to page 4 of the gallery for some pictures from last year's 18th annual show. Best regards, John
