    Jay: Was this originally a government truck? Who ordered the truck and when? Is there a customer PO listed on the build sheet? What model and VIN? When was the truck built and when and where was it delivered and to whom? If Thermo was the original owner and they used a Thermo PO to purchase the truck direct from Mack, I may be able to come up with some history for you. I need something to present to some of the old timers in their main purchasing department and I'll download some pics of the truck from your profile. If I remember correctly, the paint color scheme was a Thermo corporate color scheme-correct? Let me know. John

    Don: It took 3 attempts to get that pump to work on the 1950 Mack (200HP Cummins) that you see pictured as my avatar. My intent is to try and learn as much as I can about rebuilding these old pumps, and to identify people who could rebuild the pump in the future as a resource. I personally am working on a technical article on SD, DD and PT pumps that should be finished (hopefully) next week so, really, I am trying to pull this all together.     Jay: Thermo is a very LARGE company and we have been doing business with them since the late 1980's. Do you know which division owned the truck? My contacts are mostly in California but if I could get a little more info from you, I would try to run it down for you. John

    Jay: Did that truck belong to a company called Thermo Electron? I remember looking at that truck when it was offered on Ebay and I think that was the story that the owner was providing. I believe I got it right because we do some business with Thermo and that was the reason I remembered the story. Then again, I could be wrong-my memory is not what it used to be. What info did you get from the Mack Museum? John

    Does anyone know anyone that can rebuild a Cummins single disk injector pump?? Anyone? John

    Many antique Mack trucks were and still are equipped with Cummins diesel engines. I have been told that the single disk injection pump was prone to run away, going to full throttle without warning. It was replaced by a double disk version that was supposed to be an improvement but it was plagued with mechanical problems including chronic leakage. It was discontinued in 1954 and replaced by the revolutionary PT or pressure-time pump. I would greatly appreciate any experiences or comments relating to these early fuel injection systems.     It was more of a service for members like you because we do not make any money on these mud flaps. The product has been discontinued effective immediately. John

    I emailed the supplier on Thursday and again on the weekend to assure me that these mud flaps had shipped. Of course, no response from them. Quite honestly we make almost nothing on this product and we will probably drop this product if these people cannot get their act together. Also, I am not sure that a public forum like this one is the best way to resolve a supply problem for which our suppliers have us by the short and curlies. Honestly, we try our best to give our customers the very best pricing and delivery and I have absolutely no control over suppliers like this. Once again. I am sorry that we could not ship in time for your truck show. John

    Jay: That pair of mud flaps sold before you placed your order and we have contacted our supplier and they say the mud flaps are on back order. I humbly apologize for the inconvenience and the waste of time but we do NOT make these mud flaps. We try our best to ship in a timely fashion and I did explain to our supplier that you needed those mud flaps for a show this past weekend. We have not and will not charge you until they ship.     I think that really and truly says it all, doesn't it!!! And we have the Mack Museum and the history to go with all of those Mack Trucks. No other manufacturer can provide that kind of info. John

    As long as you use from B5 to B20, I suspect you will not have any problems since it is blended with highway diesel. Additives would be required for cold weather operation and although biodiesel is made to ASTM specs, moisture and some bacterial contamination in storage tanks can be an issue. John

    There is much more to the story than the editor of Old Time Trucks used for the publication. Since it has already appeared in one publication, no one else will touch it so I am going to add a few more pics and self-publish the story and offer it in paperback form.
