    The first thing I would check is the coolant level. Make sure it is above the sensor. Also try looping a wire into both ends of the plug in to see if the problems go away, and see if it's a bad sensor.

    Excuse me, zinc not graphite.

    Sounds like cam break in trouble. A few years back the EPA had graphite removed, reduced from most oils which aids in metal on metal clearances like cam shafts. There is products available to help break in. Just a thought.
