  1. You guys sure that "Sterling" isn't a Biederman? Biederman made a lot of big tandem boom wreckers like that during WW II.
  2. Well this I don't understand- no doubt I think it is fair to say everyone had certain "factory concessions". If Ford (or Mack etc) wanted to penetrate a certain fleet or class of trade, they would be free to grant special pricing to get their trucks in that fleet. Obviously they would not want their other customers or other dealers to have that knowledge. I can't imagine Ford would have been so dumb as to agree to expose themselves to one fixed pricing schedule. Or they might have agreed to a published pricing schedule, but I can't believe they would have given up the right to grant certain concessions.
  3. Here are a couple of shots of a 1966 4564 TD. NH-250 Cummins, RT-910 Roadranger and Whites Velvet Ride suspension. I think the rears were Rockwell 38,000 lb. I drove this truck out of Geneva NY. A few years later I was the terminal mgr in Rochester NY and the Geneva terminal was under me. One of the guys was headed to Phelps NY in same truck when some guy in an International straight job reefer came bouncing over RR tracks at a high rate of speed, lost control and nailed our guy head on. Driver smashed out rear window as both doors were jammed shut-you can see cab roof was hammered down. Engine compartment caught fire-close call. We had a lot of 4564 tandems and also ran a bunch of 9000 single axles. good trucks. And the Velvet Ride (patented name-Willets Suspension) was an exclusive with White but never caught on in industry.
  4. You guys pick this up for Paul?

  6. I do believe they offer a 15L and it IS the 3406 block. Like I said- what a combination-a Cat motor after they bailed out of highway engines and a chassis from a manufacturer that has been on a slippery slope.-in ny case hope Navistar makes it but I find it hard to believe this Cat venture will have a long life. There are only so many heavy haul carriers who are forced to buy one or loose their Cat equipment hauling business! Who said "reciprocity" was dead!
  7. Hey Matt-looks like a lot of iron for 3/4" of slush. Looks like something my junkyard Fisher could handle
  8. You've seen one?? Very rare-kind of like a blue Tibetan Snow Leopard Just what you would want-a partnership vehicle put together by a company that bailed out of the heavy truck engine market and a company that has had one foot in the grave because of a pig headed decision to come up with a better way to meet emissions standards.
  9. I think the first CH I saw was a test tractor that was in service with Petroleum Carriers of Grafton Mass. this was in 1987. Truck was painted in PC's burgundy color. PC was an outfit that kept a super clean Mack fleet. Not sure when they finally went out of business or if someone (JPN?) bought them out.
  10. Hmnn-don't believe that truck ever reached production. Wasn't the 527 a low cab over? Competition for 6000 Whites, Mack MB's, Ford C models. I would call this thing in the dyn o picture a hi-tilt-looks more like a Mack G ??
  11. To add to MackMB's story, in 1967 I was working at my company's Buffalo operation and we were a supplier to Beth Steels Lackawanna plant. Huge facility. first time I went in there I could not believe all the relatively new big iron running around the facility-and most of these trucks in spite of their relatively new age, did NOT have piece of sheet metal that was not banged up! My memory says the truck of choice at that plant was GMC--JH's?? In any case rough environment.
  12. Matt,Mike Thx- Watts has nothing-same for Iowa 80, and Berube. I think if I'm going to do anything, its fgoing to be with a piece of chrome/stainless exhaust pipe and the cap stays black. I do have a length of chrome pipe but the OD is wrong I guess if I want to do anything I'm going to have to fabricate a black collar that won't be too conspicuous. Bob
