2020 Medium-Duty Truck of the Year: Ford F-650
Red Horse replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
BH, I think the CV competes with F-450, 550 and 600. The MV competes with 650 and 750. As for the CV, I can't say -at least around here- that they are selling that well. I'm assuming the CV and its Chevy counterpart are priced higher than the Fords? When I look under the hood of a Power Stroke 450-600 I say .."ugh- pity the poor guy that has to work on that!" The CV sure has Ford -and Dodge beat with their tilt hood. When will they (Ford and Dodge) address that. -

For sure on the skill level. We had a T-6K Michigan backhoe. I think that was the smallest of the Michigan truck cranes with a single axle carrier. I would drive it on road but never "allowed" in cab. The boom and dipper were like 10" dia. pipe. Had a Continental gas engine. -
Hah! and I should have noted- that is the per yard price.! What blows my mind is the amount of mulch that gets sold here. Seems like the big triaxle trailers used to come down from Maine. A lot of tub grinders working here these days.
-
No Jim the silt fence was still in some regulators mind!
-
Let's face it guys, today's technology is great.. Charge a guy a high price to drop off his stumps, put them in your tub grinder, add dye and presto-that will be 35 bucks please for your your mulch!
-
22-B?? Nice 59 Ford. Must have put all the silt fence up just after photos were taken!

Have no fear about Biden. My bet is Mr Perez and the DNC recognize they are in the Alamo and they are encouraging Joe to go out and mingle with folks as much as he can, and Joe..."be a man- no gloves or mask"

For sure-looks like that last bucket was just tripped and looks like there was no room on that belly dump. Also check out the large root-hope that didn't grab an air line when he drove over it. Wonder how many cable shovels are still operational today? Then again, if you had one, how many 70 or 80 year old guys still want to work. New operator manual...." Right stick crowd, bucket, left stick swing, boom, two in the middle-make it move"😎 -

Isn't Avella and High Point one and same? In any case remember when a 750 Holmes was a big deal? We did have an N61 Mack tandem wrecker at out Brooklyn Terminal (North Henry St.) but it was gone by the time I had anything to do with the place. -
As well as spokes! They define old school durability-and the occasional wobble keeps you awake😎

I would say you missed your calling. You SHOULD be doing this full time! Where did you get gauges? -
Thx Kevin-as always appreciate your global perspective. My first thought was given the distance of flight, the pallet weight was an issue.
-
No pallets??? Was it the weight or we argued about pallet deposits?😎

"good by" events were big on the Cape too like 40 years ago. Labor day weekend the bridges over US 6 would be packed with people. Not anymore as a ton of people now commute off Cape to jobs.
-
Well here in Mass the topic this AM is they want to close the bridges at the Cape Cod Canal. Too many NY plates coming across.

Well let me say I'm very sensitive to the use of "first person". In my career I was always very careful to be inclusive unless the shit hit the fan and then it was "my" problem. I will have to say he has been somewhat better in his attempts to be inclusive and in fact has done a good job of deflecting some of his "fake news" detractors during his press conferences by saying his "team is disrespected...you are not insulting me, you are insulting all the great people in back of me that are making this happen"... or words to that effect. But he still makes statements that are too easily refuted. Like ..."I love Michigan, the auto industry is back there building plants"...again I'm paraphrasing but did he not just say that within the last two days when he took a shot at Michigan's "make up queen " governor? (that make you feel better😎). How many new plants has the auto industry built in Michigan of late- and please don't count Jim Hackett's "train station"! I agree every thing you said about Barry O. When I heard him make the keynote speech at the Dem's convention in 2004 I had never heard of him, but I said.."this guy could talk a cat off a fish wagon". And he did for 8 years so we are on the same page in that respect. I voted for Trump and it looks like I will have to vote for him again. But again, IMO he takes too many liberties with the truth and in doing so plays into the dems hand. A lot of good people have gone by the wayside because they could not take his arrogance and refusal to listen. Let's hope he has learned his lesson and the likes of Fauci and others don't say..."done with this crap". I also don't fault him for his at times over optimistic views as I say he has a fine line to walk between creating despair and being overly optimistic. Let's face it, for a guy who was given a million bucks as a grub stake by his father, and who operated in the big apple where connections are everything, he did okay. But unlike your grandfather that you previously talked about- or my grandparents who got off the boat from Tuscany, he did have a bit of a head start. Oh and do YOU think Rex Tillerson is "dumb as a rock"? If so Trump in all of his wisdom should have immediately determined that and never have hired him.

Interesting. 50,000 ventilators in 75 days. In WW II Ford's Willow Run plant was rolling a new B-24 out the door every 59 minutes! Key is 1000 ventilators a day after the ramp up. Anyone see any figures as to typical number of days a person needs a ventilator before recovery?

Well to quote Mack 458.....in my opinion Trump really did not act in time, and continues to make incorrect/differing statements than his team of doctors and specialist. In the beggining it was a hoax and something that the democrats were using to take him down. He seems to finally be taking the advise from his team. Unfortunatly every press conference is about what a great job he is doing and making incorrect statements. Unfortunately there is a lot of truth in this. Although I think he finally is accepting the fact that he has two very competent people in Fauci and Berx and he is finally listening. I just keep hoping his handlers get him in control. Election is his to lose. People like Hannity have to stop blowing smoke up his ass and get him to STFU! Stick to FACTS. Question is, when do Dems recognize Biden really does have a problem? And as for Cuomo, look at the air time this guy gets. And also NO press coverage about any of his failed pie in the sky proposals to "make NY great again".

First time I ever drove a U-not ideal situation. In '70/71?, the major oil company employees in metro NY were represented by a very powerful union and the industry always caved to demands as they could not stand taking the hit of losing sales due to a walk out. Up to a point! So my company had any mgt employee who had ever driven ready to jump in and we were going to run. Negotiations were underway last day of contract and mgt employees were scattered around the area waiting to see if a deal was reached-or not! I'm with a bunch of guys at Inwood NY terminal and around midnite negotiations fail. So my group's assignment to take units (5 axle, 8000 gal tks) out of terminal to another outside distributor terminal at Oyster Bay LI. My unit- not an R-600 as were most but a U-600! So driving out through the gate, the strikers by now had their signs, and were not wishing you well as we drove out. And to make matters worse, no clue as to where Oyster Bay was- so follow the leader or you were screwed. Get to location and wait in street while one truck at a time went through gate, guys came out with decals that went over company name, "rebranding " the trucks- then you backed down a lane into a back lot and parked them. We then piled in a van and were driven back to our motel in Newburgh. Paul would probably know Oyster Bay location- Commander Oil-now a Global facility-and much bigger I'm sure than it was 50 years ago! -
Shocker. My youngest son did a lip synch Of Pick Up Man his sr. yr in high school-lot of laughs . And my grandsons always want to hear JD Green when they are riding in my Deere. When country music was good! RIP
