  1. KS- Internationals are even uglier than Chevys IMO but agree they should be the big winner in this deal. Local International/Ford Medium store has some in stock too. That dealership by the way was an original Ford Heavy Truck store opened under the dealer development program I believe it was called. The family that owned it in recent years just sold out so it will be interesting to see how much loyalty new owner has toward Ford.
  2. Did my monthly cruise through the local Altech facility. Saw a couple of new Chevys there for first time. Could not tell what model but they did not look like 4WD. As for big trucks, the utilities are going bigger and bigger. A lot of triaxles ion yard. Altech has added on to their space.
  3. Jim- agree on both your points-like I said, I was not taking a position on the subject-just a comment on this a-hole who rattles off the names from one side of the isle only- oh and this AM I hear another gem.."Everyone should be paid a living wage". I guess that seals the fate of countless jobs that employee, students, the elderly, and those clearly with no skill sets what so ever who will be replaced by a "better system". However I do wish there was some way to keep the "performers" vs. the "coasters". In my career I saw plenty of people who were up early and stayed late and made a contribution until their last day. On the other hand, also saw many who lived on their past deeds and were on cruise control until the end-or until you were able to get the goods on them and assist them out the door. Under our current system, the voters should be doing that but unfortunately that rarely happens- I only have to look at my state of MASS.
  4. Well this hack's latest commercial reveals his true colors. He rants about the need for term limits and rattles off a list of names that have served "too long" at least in his opinion. Perhaps, but shocker-they are all Republicans! I'm not making a point about term limits-good or bad, just a comment about this..." hedge fund/philanthropist/environmentalist" and his obvious bias.
  5. For sure-the hand writing is on the wall as to what China's intentions are with everything. Maybe we need a one day "Boycott Walmart" day. That would bring a lot of attention to the subject.
  6. Well never ran one but for sure they did not handle stumps. Just think of a razor blade as the cutting edge. Lower the bowl and raise the front apron as far as needed to keep up with the flow of material coming in. And that would be dictated by type of material and traction the prime mover had as well as was there a push dozer behind. Remember probably before the late forties, most scrapers were cable jobs pulled by a dozer. Then next generation had the pull unit as in this photo and they were either two wheel like this one or one with a four axle-like the Euclid in this photo that also had a rear pusher engine. Go to a site I think called "California earth movers" and you see the state of the art- big cats equiped with tow bars in front so two machines work in tandem and when one is in the "cut" the back unit has that raised and it is pushing and when the front one lifts the bowl and is clear of the cut the back machine drops the hook and gets an assist from the front machine-at least that is how I think is the "drill" Question I would have is what is that cage over the bowl?
  7. and I think it has an Allison
  8. The biggest thing they have going against them is parts availability I would imagine. If you have a good one that you have cared for probably make sense to get a parts truck.
  9. Blackdog is talking oil industry. TBA was "tire,batteries.accessories. It also included case goods oil in qts, drums 55 gal and kegs -120 pd gear lube, grease etc. The industry -the majors that is-first gave up on TBA and then the box fleets just handled lubes.
  10. WASN'T THATG KNOWN AS ST-34 OR ST-38?
  11. yes and yes
  12. Boy -unless these are all old pix, there are a lot of Fords still on the job in St. Louis. Sterlings too.
  13. when you say "new Mack upholstery" I'm sure you are refering to new high backs? My B has two antique Bostrums- an Air Viking and a 905. Both have Mack logos on seat backs but the seats themselves (cushions) are shot. The seat mechanics work fine. I'm thinking for a lot of cash, my best bet is a custom upholstery shop. could probably cut out the seat back logos and stitch them into new cushions.
  14. Back up this AM
  15. Anyone here ever go to BON site? Tried logging on tonight and message for "GoDaddy" says site has not been "renewed"????
  16. Jim, Part of the Gargolinski Construction fleet that operated here in Worcester County. That truck was in care of grandson Matt when I took those shots in 2010. There was a ton of other stuff then too, twin engine Euc scraper, Letourneau scrapers, shovels, dozers etc. According to Matt, the truck may have a future as Matt has been working with Jandris Mason Supply who also has some beauties that have been restored. Hopefully between the two of them we have not seen the last of this old dog. Matt by the way is in the heavy truck business-frame replacement his specialty. More 2010 shots -all went under the torch
  17. And Jim, here is a shot of that beast in its "natural habitat" taken 9 years ago!
  18. Thx Kevin- I can't believe the Cat design is that old As always , imitation is the best form of "flattery"-or a good idea for sure. Komatsu won't be far behind. And Deere for sure given their Liebherr connection.
  19. And Horns on the roof....buuutttt-that will cut MPG by .0000003!
  20. Ahh- so how long have they had a "HI DRIVE"? NOT SURE IF THAT IS THE CORRECT TERM, How about..."Cat final drive design"?
  21. And crumbs will probably be what Mack gets.
  22. Beautiful-just something about a V-8 with the distributor on the correct end😎
  23. So the cat peed on the cushion-is the seat structure sound? Just take cushion to an upholstery shop and have them duplicate. Unless you are spending a lot of time in this seat and want the latest technology. Seems to me all the old Bostrum air rides did a decent job back in the 80's -assuming bags weren't blown.
  24. Well my intro to driving in metro NY was the big strike in 71 when the majors took on the PTEU-the big union that represented most of the petro drivers in the metro area. Anyone in management throughput the country that had ever driven was placed on the "MOCO" team.."method of continuous operation"-The prep for that was we had to take the NYC Fire Dept Certificate of Fitness test that was needed to haul gas/oil-"haz mat" wasn't a term then. Well I spent 51 days driving out of Mt Vernon-at times on 5 axles in Westchester county, other times in a "city spec" 10 wheeler delivering in the Bronx. After a while you learned the shortcuts and I remember one day going through a decent neighborhood (near Gun Hill Rd.?) I pass a group of people standing around a VW bug. I dropped the load and on my way back there is the VW-all the doors and "hood" open sitting on blocks, papers blowing all around it. Stripped clean-and this was a "nice' neighborhood! Welcome to the "Big Apple".
  25. Makes you wonder right about the current practice of incorporating the turn signal in with the headlight bucket. "Let's see-is he turning left in front of me?" If they are going to do that with class 6-8 trucks, IMO they should have a canceling feature like some cars do that kill the headlight when the turn signal is powered.
