  1. Double check that figure. Wheeled my share off the ass end of B-81's and LJ's in my "youth" in 60's. I always thought mixers were rated with a "MIx" number and an "agitator" number-difference in that the mix number was what the drum could handle doing just that-mixing a load of dry charged sand, stone and cement. Agitators could carry a substantially larger amount of wet concrete from a central mix plant and keep it turned over in transit. whatever great shot of it in the parade. Also nice when you can personally connect with an old piece of iron.
  2. Given the magnitude of this one-as well as KSC's comment on trouble free nature of the euro version, would be interesting to see who the vendor was-and to take it one step further, where were the materials sourced. As I'm pounding away on a piece of granite step with my 3 lb sledge and chisels that came out of my father's 80 year old leather tool bag, sure am glad there was no question where this steel came from!
  3. No argument on your point on BOF construction. As for your comment on Ecoboost "hand grenades"-please elaborate. My SHO just hit 90,000 miles. Been to the dealer once in that time ( AC issue) What are the issues? These in 150's? And what kind of mileage? I believe the take rate on Ecoboosts in 150's is close to 50%. Given the number of 150's sold per year, that is a lot of experience/mileage o the books.
  4. Rich-finally got around to checking this out- the Rat B is looking good-and there WERE some nice old trucks there-
  5. And in addition to the Bronco, hopefully Ford will wake up and also bring the Everest here. and for those who say Ford has too many SUV variants, I say get rid of the Flex- 2000 units a month!
  6. Well Jack I have to disagree as I think what ever route they took to sell it, it is going to be in the "bright lights". My point is simply if ATHS was going to sell it, with an in house capability they have to outsource it? Give someone else a slice of the pie??? Again, I'm not getting into the validity issue of the sale. That ground has been plowed many times. As I read the letter from Mrs Fox, no doubt in my mind who the truck was given to. As always, how much do you want to spend on legal fees. Let's just hope one of "us" gets it and it does not end up getting stuffed into a container in Newark for a long voyage.
  7. What is worse here? Instead of posting it in WOT, they have turned it over to someone to sell. Not sure what any commission numbers are but when you have a publication that can reach a lot of members, and in particular has its own "want ad" section- why would you outsource this? I could see if you tried to market it yourself and then had no results but turning it over to someone else right off the bat??? Makes no sense to me-and it continues to be a very sore point here in New England.
  8. So when will we see a picture-better yet a video vs a CAD rendition!
  9. EJ- correct on the juice brakes. To get a real appreciation for this truck you should get a look when its on the lowboy and you see the detail underneath. A typical Dave Mauro restoration.
  10. You have to appreciate what Trump said in his cabinet meeting this week. Just what we need-vocational training and expanded apprentice programs. when loons like Bernie spout off about everyone having a .."right to a college education", I say.."In What"? Philosophy? Eastern European Literature? I don't think so.
  11. Thx-good info to go over.
  12. Sorry for your loss but your message is a good one.
  13. Good one-I missed that point. Oh and Fxyfmn-I have to disagree- the mfg sector may be 1/3 rd of our economy, but what was it? You can't pick up one item in five in Home Depot that is made in US. More like one in 8? 10?. Just look at the freight industry of 40 or 50 years ago. The P & D section was a key piece. Why? because "stuff" originated here. Today? Its all coming from China in containers. The "P" in P & D is gone. Its all delivery from the DC after the container gets delivered and stripped. I was in the great Stanley Works New Britain Conn facility a couple of years ago. The only thing they make there now is steel tapes. Everything else? Gone.
  14. and don't forget JB Hunt!
  15. By the way-KW looks good too. Friend of mine recently bought a new one, 26,000 plate ramp truck. 90 grand complete-KW dealer in Fla-unbelievable price-not too much more than a a Hino 238 or an F-650 Power Stroke.
  16. Rich-what show is that? Looks good with the A-car!
  17. Amen-where are the results-went to HDT digital-nothing there.
  18. Surprised that the HDT article (Mr Koeck) made no mention of double stack rail. Improvements associated with raising bridges to accommodate double stack containers on more rail routes has to be as big a factor as port improvements. While Volvo is making a lot of noise about their new regional tractor, IMO the market for class 8 tractors of the future may not be that great for the "large car high roofs". Granted there will always be a need for "hot shot" or dedicated long haul trucks for certain routes/priorities, too many factors seem to be lining up to make the regional tractor the predominant vehicle. If Ford for example is to ever get back in class 8, it will be IMO in that low cost regional tractor that runs from the intermodal yard to the distribution center or final customer. All of this thanks to the demise of American manufacturing.
  19. Well I guess as DAF sponsors this "show", that is as good a review as Ford could hope for. Reviewer was quick to point out it was 60,000 euros-vs what a Scania S would cost- Kevin-what would that number be?? As for his comments on its looks, IMO ALL of the Euro cab overs were designed by the same guys from Tonka/Mattel/Playskool!
  20. Never heard it was a "quality problem". Design issues yes.
  21. Torpedo 8. Entire squadron was shot down and one man survived and was later rescued. Saw a picture yesterday of a group of Midway survivors at a ceremony. All were in wheelchairs. Truly the greatest generation.
  22. IMO, the 237 Maxidyne , 5 speed highway, 6 speed off road/construction, for sure was the best. 4000/9000 Whites were good fleet trucks as were the L and LN Ford Louisvilles-certainly from a first cost but you just had to make sure you speced the right engine/transmission and rear. Mack took all that out of the equation. Those were the good ol' days.
  23. Rich -Looking good-very good!
  24. Here is a great piece that was in Business Insider. The Silicon Valley explanation is sexier but wrong. Since Tesla's ascent as a wildly volatile investment opportunity began in 2013, we've repeatedly been told the auto industry is about to be rapidly remade by technology. Initially, the action was all about electric cars, but they have largely been a bust. Tesla occupies a market of one. Uber and its $60 billion to $70 billion valuation lent credence to the oft-debated notion that younger people would swear off driving and car ownership. But young people are now getting older and buying more cars. Uber is also in a state of near-continual crisis, and it has wasted an enormous amount of cash trying to be that thing Silicon Valley prizes above all else: an uncontested monopoly. Lyft, unfortunately, hasn't cooperated. The third narrative pivot involved self-driving cars. This has been the latest gold rush, but if Fields lost his job because Ford couldn't figure out how to effectively communicate its efforts in this space, then we should really take a closer look at Silicon Valley's almost total inability to create any kind of logical business case around autonomy. Google's self-driving podmobiles have been racking up miles, but as promising as the tech looks, its no closer to being widely commercialized than it was before Alphabet renamed its car business Waymo. Apple has ditched its car plans and now appears to be developing some kind of in-vehicle, self-driving interface. If there's a go-to-market, it's years off. A lot of people think there's a business with this stuff, but, thus far, there just hasn't been.
  25. What I think is really scary is this self driving car thing is an invention of Silicon Valley and the hi tech world. Who needs it? Who wants it. Crash avoidance technology is one thing. a self driving car-or truck? Something else. Unfortunately Detroit seems to have swallowed this hook, line and sinker IMO
