  1. I think there are a lot of us on this site that could do a better job of prepping the Donald than his "handlers" do. Let's hope he looks at the videos and if nothing else does something about his facial expressions.
  2. Weren't the V-8's U700's??- they had about 3" of added fiberglass on the hood at the wheel wells.
  3. Thx- well credit to the Aussie Ford guys for covering the logo-the US guys would not have bothered! Good looking Hino-probably a matter of time before we see that here.
  4. thx- I based my statement on the Fleetowner coverage. You would have thought they would have given the US companies a bit more coverage.
  5. And No GM, Paccar, Ford, Navistar? Guess this is a Euro show for sure-not a "World" show???
  6. So Kevin- What is that boom truck. doesn't look like any Cargo I have seen. By the way-that stability control video is impressive-do the GM twins have that feature?-or Tacoma??
  7. 22 million pages??? Seems like producing that many copies is penalty enough. How many people does it take to analyze that much data-a stack of paper over 2000 ft. high. Of course its not paper-assuming most of the stuff is in some sort of electronic file but think of the cost of the investigation alone???
  8. Happy anniversary Matt and many more. Have seen more than one wedding scene where the bride shows up in a B, but never three!
  9. Elenco was an aftermarket axle-not sure if it was a Ford factory option. Company was sold to an individual who was rebuilding them. Try Yesterdaystractors.com The 841 at the show did not have a shuttle stick but the one I ran did-mounted on left side of cowl. Not a "power shift"-this was an old school gear tractor so you had to be stopped to change direction but it was still quicker than shifting the tractor trans into reverse.
  10. Opps- sorry guys-like I said-I ran it 50 years ago so I AM old-and forgetfull
  11. Well I have to add to Beatngu's post. This was loaded on that very nice red LJ with the big chrome bumper. Its an 841 Ford with an Elanco driving front axle. Hate to admit it, but 50+ years ago I was working my way through school working for a contractor and we had such a Ford-with a 14' backhoe. Back then about the only 4 wd loader backhoes were big buck DynaHoes. But this little Ford was a working machine. Also had a set of brush forks-no such thing as grapples then- as well as a York rake. The backhoe took about 5 minutes to swap out. Only issue with the front axle was I believe there was a shear pin that would fail-not too sure about that. In any case, like the LJ, this tractor is mint-unfortunately didn't get the owners name but he should be very proud of the Mack and the Ford!
  12. A few shots from great show this weekend at Saratoga County Fairgrounds: Maddog's B-61 Long time Mobil employee Lee Cook and his B and LJ painted in Socony Red colors from "back in the day" when he started with Mobil Andy Henderson's beautiful B-73 with a couple of young admirers
  13. Excellent-as always, numbers don't lie!
  14. What bullshit! The lesson here? Crime pays! The scumbag makes a pile of money, gets caught, gets 12 months in the can and must pay back a half a million! How many dirt bags will look at this and say-...."Hell, its worth a shot-if we don't get caught, we make a pile-if we get caught we do a a year in jail. Go for it!" Add to this we are not talking about a common street dirtbag-we are talking about someone who raised his right hand to serve his country. I agree with Grayhair-well maybe life in the can would be a good compromise-certainly NOT a slap on the wrist.
  15. Had the SHO into dealer today for brake job. 84,000 miles, no vibration or anything just thought it was time-fronts were fine need rears only! In any case on new 2017 Super Duty in lot. F-250 , XL, Gas, 4 x 4. Very impressive looking truck. 10,000 GVW pkg! Thought that was 350 territory. Anyway everything about it looks beefy-including the price 40 g for an XL!
  16. Kevin- thx for info. Never would have guessed this effort could have stood on its feet given the market size. And Navistar with its own new HX series will not be a factor in AUS market?
  17. So with the US Cat/Navistar truck "adventure" over, are these " Cats" old inventory or is some sort of Australian production still in place? If so, it would seem the volume would be such that they are as close as you can get to a "hand built" truck. They can make money doing this????
  18. Hmnn- I thought the saying was......."Something's rotten in Denmark"
  19. Looking good Rich- I dunno-that beautiful red frame just might look good with something other than flat blacK????
  20. GA Dave, Mack58B42, and FxFymn, Thx-all good points- I guess the one that really got me thinking was 86 Mack from Bargaintown NJ. Looked like it might have been a purpose built tanker and I'm thinking-"ok -30 years old-but did it respond to every call? Garaged? Well maintained?." Likewise a shot of a 93 CH-but granted it was pulling a 59 Heil! As for the danger of liquid loads, good points- but most MC 306 tanks were built for gas (6.2 pds/gal or distillate fuels-heat, diesel @ 7.2 pds. In an 80,000 lb state this usually meant an 8500 gal gas load or a 7300 gal distillate load. Now water would equate to about 6500 gallons. And the safe way to do that would be to run the smallest compartment empty- and typically most 8500 gal tanks would have a 900 to 1100 gallon compartment as the smallest. My guess would be however, that the inexperienced would light load all the compartments-creating the most slop-that is if they paid attention to weight laws. In any case, absolutely correct in terms of the dangers of a liquid load. "Mass in motion" was a catch phrase we used- take a corner too fast and guess what- that liquid load would climb up the tank shell dramatically changing your center of gravity. Which of course accounts for most of the tanker off ramp accidents. For sure that is the one case where the driver explanation of why he wrecked the truck of..."the load shifted" is absolutely correct! Bottom line-nothing like good training and qualifying people for specific units-not a fireman but would hope that is the usual rule rather than exception.
  21. I can understand how front line pumpers/ladders get retired. I am surprised though as to the number of tankers that seem to be retired at a relatively young age. Any logical answer? An aluminum petro tanker, or stainless milk tank? No DOT/EPA tightness test issues. And if you have bulkhead leaks between compartments-who cares?? No food grade issues in the case of a milk tank. Or do departments just want purpose built fire tankers these days?
  22. Interesting that dump and tanker service are both excluded. My first thought is both of these applications typically operate consistently at the higher end of the GVW rating. Why would you exclude a significant percentage of class 7 sales???
  23. I'm sure given the success of the Ford Transit, Ford is content to let FCA take this low bid
  24. More like a crazy thought. Ford manufactures the 6.7 Power Stroke as well as a bunch of small diesels in Europe (as well as the 3.2 used in the new Transit- I think it's built in Spain) but no big bore engines-unless you count the Ford Otosan engines built in Turkey under license from Iveco.
