  1. I can't understand why they could not do some creative engineering to come up with one BBC that would accommodate both engines.-be it axle forward or set back. Four BBC's- I can think of a lot of trucks that accommodated big bloc Cats or Cummins with as little as 106-granted-I'm sure all the emissions issues have complicated things but still........ 4?
  2. Well THIS got everyone's attention!

  3. Took this shot of a Louisville today working a road job in Brewster Ma. Dummy I did not get the year but newest would be 96/7, oldest with that grill 88?? In any case, LT-9000, 425 old school Cat, 18 front 46 rears with a 3rd lift.. Imacculate! Guy was waiting his turn at the excavator, so I made his day. He had rebuilt the motor (I guess that is where the 425 came from as I don't think they ever offered the 3406 with that rating as a factory option.) He also at one time owned an LT-9000 tractor that he picked up as a drive away at KTP.
  4. We ran DM-400 NYC spec tank trucks in late 60's/early 70's. Allisons and I do believe they were Scanias. replaced the Scanias with V-185 Cummins power. From the frying pan to the fire!
  5. Kevin,

Regarding the Northway, bill Semple is pres.of our ATCA chapter . I'm treasurer.  Needless to say I am very familiar with this truck.  It was the only thing he sold at his auction  that brought him any kind of reasonable "profit"-not that you are supposed to make money on old trucks-"yuk-yuk".

He had a couple of early Whites that surprisingly went for bargain rates.

  6. Hope they have a remote "destruct" feature to save us a lot of trouble when they are abandoned and ISIS gets them!
  7. Unhappy with German leadership?...Hmnn shades of Chrysler?
  8. Hah! For sure Jim- the neighbors are not happy about their pot holes!
  9. Well guys-thx for all the good advice. Picked up two new 1050 CCA (@32) from Fleet Pride (they are made by Exide) put them in and I could not get my finger off the starter button fast enough before it fired up. 20 minutes spent welding new angle irons in each battery box to lock them in and I'm done. Also interesting side note-was at the tire shop today and a Napa guy was in- he does fleet work for a Napa with about 6 locations. He told me 4 battery mfg's in US- East Penn-(Deka) Exide-(Fleet Pride one of their labels), Johnson Controls-(Interstate) and one other player that I forgot that does a lot of minor pvt. labels. MrCat- Mike-called your guy-he only went as high as 940. Price okay but given fact I was going from 4 to 2, wanted as much punch as I could get.
  10. Thx for posting-another dimension!
  11. Hmnn- you DO get around!
  12. I hear you-just the practical side of me
  13. Jim, I never knew the history of Merk's truck-thx. Some of these fire trucksgo for unbelievable numbers. A town on Cape-to remain nameless-sold a 237 powered pumper about three years ago- friend attended the bid opening-that did not happen. Truck went to a "local". Yank the 5 speed, put a 6 speed in, shorten up WB and you would have a single axle dump for a lifetime!
  14. B-dog thx for the history. Remember the 69 R and the MB. The MB was converted to a DPW sander-until a women blew a stop sign, hit it and it rolled over.! Don't remember the "type 45+-unless that is a American LaFrance which is the current muster truck. the current R is a Triplex-someone was thinking of its "afterlife"! give me a heads up next time you are headed for the Country Cupboard.
  15. Mike-tried calling you on 978-256-4379

shoot me your guys contact info if you don't mind and I'll see what he says.  1000 CCA Interstate is listing for about 150 bucks- I can also get 1000 CCA at Advance auto for 141 less A 20% COUPON I HAVE.  Think I'm going to cut back to two-one on each side.

  16. Kevin

Pardon my political incorrectness but is this a diversity hire?  When you see a track record like that, "diversity" is the first thing that comes to my mind.

By the way, did you know Joe Rossetti?  He was a New England guy that I think made it to the VP of sales level.  I think early in his history he was the branch manager in Providence or Boston.  Also, national Accounts guys that were my reps were Homer Milliken and Rick Vessela-but I'm dating myself and both were probably gone before your time.

  17. 10-4, Apples and High taxes!
  18. so Larry-what do you have for CCA? I'm thinking when guys I bought the truck from converted from 4 -6V with the SP switch, they "filled the battery boxes" with 4 -12 V. I don't ever remember buying trucks with a total of 4800 CCA.-and that includes tractors that had to have a hot wire for a tailgate Will do Mike.
  19. Bulldog-here are some pix-sorry could not get it outside.
  20. KS-but were they not also skating by on "credits" that they had? or am I confusing them with Cat?
  21. Guys-I'm sure you are right-I'm just trying to get blood out of a stone!
  22. Guys one other test i did. Had the wife hit the starter and my volts on Batteries dropped to around 4.
  23. Well in the dead of winter I tried to start the B model-not even a grunt. Truck is 12 v, 4 @ 1200 CCA. But they are 10 years old! everyone tells me I'm kidding myself. In any case I took two of them out and charged them about 6 hrs-getting 12.2 v reading. The two on the other side were reading around 12.18 so I took a shot, brought the Ranger in the barn and hooked it up to that side. No luck- Headlights are bright, internal buzzer and low air red light bright but no turnover-just a "grunt". I have had intermittent problems in past with the starter not engaging but before I screw around with that opinions if I in fact 4 12 V at a little over 12 V are not enough? Seems tome 4800 CCA's even at 12V should be more than enough but I guess not? Or I'm back to starter issue.??
  24. Hah- only a few! Thx for info- I don't even remember what the connection was that your name came up but it did have something to do with 360's or 361's that had big power-12v-71 or that big OHC Cat.
  25. Mike- Same spoke-so on my rear I would have a 3 piece with a two piece... By the way-you must be psychic because I was down at my pal's shop in Lancaster an hour ago where Dave M keeps his Binder and his Brockway and we were talking about 360's, 361's and long nose versions to accommodate 12V-71's and your name came up!
