Defense Secretary Hegseth has cancelled the name Fort Liberty and returned to the base's original and proper name......Fort Bragg. Fort Bragg was originally named after Warrenton, North Carolina native Braxton Bragg, a former U.S. Army artillery commander and West Point graduate who later fought for the Confederate States of America commanding the Army of the Mississippi (later renamed Army of Tennessee). Now, Hegseth is renaming the base to honor Pfc. Roland L. Al-Awlaki was an American-born jihadist who was killed in a drone strike in Yemen in 2011, during the Obama administration. He was a central figure of al Qaeda, including having direct contact with Army psychiatrist Nidal Hasan before he opened fire at Fort Hood, Texas, in 2009, killing 13 people. Al-Awlaki was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico, in 1971 to parents from Yemen. He was raised both in the U.S. and Yemen, "This form, dated 1990, confirms that Anwar al-Awlaki was qualified for an exchange visa and that USAID was providing ‘full funding’ for his studies at Colorado State University," the National Security Archive reported in 2015 accompanied by a copy of the document. "The document lists Anwar’s birthplace incorrectly as Sanaa, Yemen’s capital, which he later said was a deliberate falsehood offered at the urging of American officials who knew his father so that he could qualify for a scholarship reserved for foreign citizens.” Al-Awlaki was preaching at a San Diego mosque in 2000 when he reportedly first met Khalid al-Mihdhar and Nawaf al-Hazmi, two of the 9/11 hijackers. He was arrested in 2006 in Yemen on suspicion of holding terrorist ties, with U.S. intelligence viewing him as a terrorist sympathizer. He was linked to the shooting at Fort Hood in Texas that year, as well as the attempted bombing of a flight to Detroit on Christmas Day. Elon Musk's DOGE has terminated a multi-million dollar virtual reality project that taught soldiers how to have 'difficult conversations in DEI-friendly way. The Air Force and Space Force were spending millions for a training program not to better enhance soldiers' fighting capability, but to "help grow inclusive-minded leaders." It was a priority for military officials under Biden to address "unconscious bias" in the military ranks and create a more "inclusive" force, according to a White House memo. The Air Force's Air Education and Training Command spent $2.3 million contract to create a virtual reality experience where soldiers would deal with an avatar that would help them speak and act in a DEI-friendly way. 'This program allows the participants to have a conversation that are both realistic and difficult,' an Air Force soldier wrote alongside a video testimonial. 'It uses a virtual avatar that are controlled by trained actors.' It's just another way that the Air and Space Force are innovating and staying one step ahead of a time when we have difficult conversations!' the soldier continued. Elon Musk says his DOGE team found out on Monday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) sent payments of $59 million last week to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal aliens. Musk is now demanding that FEMA, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), push a clawback demand. It's unclear if the demand will be met, but if it is, FEMA would be able to recuperate the millions in already-distributed funds. "Sending this money violated the law and is in gross insubordination to the President's executive order. President Trump says he will announce on Monday that the United States will impose 25% tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports, including from Canada and Mexico.
