  1. In this photo, you can see the new H62X cab is a genuine "full-width" European level cab. H62X represents very serious intentions and investment on Ford's part. Well done. .
  2. US ending temporary permits for 60,000 Haitians Associated Press / November 21, 2017 WASHINGTON — The Trump administration said Monday it is ending a temporary residency permit program that has allowed almost 60,000 citizens from Haiti to live and work in the United States since a 2010 powerful earthquake shook the Caribbean nation. The Homeland Security Department said conditions in Haiti have improved significantly, so the benefit will be extended one last time — until July 2019 — to give Haitians time to prepare to return home. "Since the 2010 earthquake, the number of displaced people in Haiti has decreased by 97 percent," the department said. "Haiti is able to safely receive traditional levels of returned citizens." Advocates and members of Congress from both parties had asked the Trump administration for an 18-month extension of the program, known as Temporary Protected Status. Haitian President Jovenel Moise's government also requested the extension. While Haiti has made advances spurred by international aid since the quake, the Caribbean nation remains one of the poorest in the world. More than 2.5 million people, roughly a quarter of the population, live on less than $1.23 a day, which authorities there consider extreme poverty [Not our problem....life is what you make it]. The United Nations last month ended a peacekeeping mission in Haiti that, at its peak, included more than 10,000 troops. Its new mission is comprised of about 1,300 international civilian police officers and 350 civilians who will help the country try to reform a deeply troubled justice system. The Homeland Security Department made its announcement 60 days before temporary status for the Haitians is set to expire. In May, the agency extended the program for only six months instead of the customary 18, and urged Haitians under the program to get their affairs in order and prepare to go home. The temporary status covers some 435,000 people from nine countries effected by natural disasters or war, who came to the U.S. legally or otherwise. Days after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Haiti in January 2010, President Obama granted the 18-month protection status for Haitians in America who would otherwise have to go home. Obama renewed it every time it ran out. Monday's decision doesn't affect thousands of Haitians who were taken in by Brazil and other South American countries after the earthquake and began making their way to the United States last year. U.S. Customs and Border Protection says 6,424 Haitians showed up at border crossings with Mexico during the 12-month period ended Sept. 30, up from only 334 a year earlier. They were generally paroled to live in the United States on humanitarian grounds [Throwing established immigration policy to the curb]. Since taking office, Trump has ended temporary permit programs for Sudan and Nicaragua. Trump has postponed until next July a decision on how to deal with a similar program for 86,000 residents from Honduras. Maryland Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen, along with fellow Democrat Dianne Feinstein of California, last week unveiled new legislation to protect undocumented [illegal] immigrants living under temporary protected status. It would make immigrants under the program eligible to apply for legal permanent residency after three years.
  3. Tesla receives orders from four companies for electric truck Neil Abt, Fleet Owner / November 18, 2017 At least four companies have publicly confirmed having placed preorders for Tesla’s heavy-duty electric truck. The companies, J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Walmart, Meijer Inc., and Loblaw have each paid the $5,000-a-truck deposit price for the trucks Tesla CEO Elon Musk said will be ready in 2019. J.B. Hunt said in a statement it has reserved “multiple” trucks and plans to deploy them on the West Coast within its Intermodal and Dedicated Contract Services units. “Reserving Tesla trucks marks an important step in our efforts to implement industry-changing technology,” said John Roberts, president and CEO. “We believe electric trucks will be most beneficial on local and dray routes, and we look forward to utilizing this new, sustainable technology.” Walmart said it preordered 15 of the Tesla Semis, with five for its U.S. operations and the other 10 for Canada. "We are excited to be among the first to pilot this new heavy-duty electric vehicle," the company said in a statement to CNBC. Canadian grocery chain Loblaw Cos. told Reuters it had placed an order for 25 of the trucks. The company has intentions of transitioning to a completely electric vehicle fleet by 2030. Another grocer and discount retailer, Meijer Inc., told Bloomberg News it would test four Tesla Semis. The company current has a fleet of 250 trucks. Ryder System told the Wall Street Journal it will place an initial order with Tesla, but did not disclose details. While these firms received immediately publicity for these orders, executives with Hirschbach Motor Lines and Daseke Inc. have said the 500-mile range on a single charge would prevent it from considering the trucks at this early stage.
  4. It's noteworthy that the book was written in 2008.
  5. That.....is very painful to look at. The former CAT truck designers and Tonka would be impressed though.
  6. Conspiracy theorists can rest at ease. You were right all along. Competing with the R/U/DM design proposal was the B Model II concept, seen here undergoing grueling endurance testing at the former Mack Trucks Engineering, Development & Test Center. This would have been the Mack vocational chassis for the 1970s, 80s and mid-90s. .

  13. Israel to shut migrant centre and deport Africans AFP / November 18, 2017 Jerusalem - Israel's cabinet voted on Sunday to close a migrant detention centre, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced an agreement to deport 40,000 Africans who entered the country illegally. Ministers unanimously approved plans to shutter the Holot centre in southern Israel and gave migrants a three-month deadline to leave the country or face deportation, said the interior and public security ministries. "The infiltrators will have the option to be imprisoned or leave the country," the public security ministry said in a statement. Israeli official figures from June 30 show a total of 38,043 African migrants in the country. They include 27,494 Eritreans and 7,869 Sudanese, and their presence in south Tel Aviv has raised discontent among Israelis there and elsewhere. Speaking ahead of Sunday's vote, Netanyahu noted that after building a fence on the Egyptian border and deporting some 20,000 African migrants through various deals, Israel has reached the third stage of its efforts -- "accelerated removal". "This removal is taking place thanks to an international agreement I reached that enables us to remove the 40,000 infiltrators remaining, remove them without their consent," he told ministers. "This will enable us to close down Holot and allocate some of the large funds going there to inspectors and removing more people," said Netanyahu. Holot, an open facility in the desert that can host 1,200 migrants who are allowed to leave to work during the day, would be closed three months from December 16, according to the decision. A public security ministry spokesman said an extension to that deadline would be set if necessary. Ahead of the vote, Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan said Holot had become "a hotel for infiltrators at the tax-payers' expense that does not encourage their exit" and costs 240 million shekels ($68 million, 58 million euros) a year. In a Twitter statement, Erdan however stressed the closure of Holot was conditioned on "us seeing that the policy of removing infiltrators to a third country was indeed taking place." Neither Erdan nor Netanyahu gave details about the deal and the third country. Israel tacitly recognises the Sudanese and Eritreans cannot be returned to their dangerous homelands, so it has signed deals with Rwanda and Uganda, which agree to accept departing migrants on condition they consent to the arrangement, according to activists.
  14. I suggest you call Watt's Mack at 1-888-304-6225 and ask on availability of a new, low-cost (Bostrom or National) silver-gray vinyl high-back seat. See what did they say.
  15. How should I say this........I don't want our government to control human conscience. But the government is in a superb position to inspire positive behavior and cultural development. Look at how former Mack Trucks CEO Zenon Hansen inspired everyone (and I mean everyone!) at Mack Trucks, for example. He inspired us all to be great Americans, be proud of Mack Trucks and reach our full potential. His entire attitude stemmed from his Scouting background. Zenon had a hard childhood, and he found a life direction with Scouting. He was an Eagle Scout. "A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent." People inspired with these values contribute to their families, their company and country, and society in general. Today, a huge percentage of the masses are, apparently, incapable of steering their behavioral development in a good direction. Done properly, the government is in the best position to inspire. Look at Teddy Roosevelt, FDR and JFK......they each inspired a generation. That all said, we haven't enjoyed good, effective government since Eisenhower.
  16. I respectfully disagree. My thought is, the government is the one and only body over everyone in an effective position to "steer" behavioral and cultural norms in the country. I completely support early term abortion. There are situations......it is the mother's right to choose. The government or other should have no involvement.

  18. The short answer is, engine performance and fuel economy will suffer, reducing the amount of money in your back pocket.
  19. Dave, my theory is, we have a larger number of bad eggs per 1,000 people than we did "years ago". I suspect the criminal percentage of the population is higher than years ago, and I contribute that to cultural decay and declining standards of behavior in the United States. Look at the three UCLA basketball players who were caught red-handed stealing in China on Tuesday, November 7. They were acting as ambassadors of the United States (they're too ignorant to grasp that), over there to play a basketball game in Shanghai. And, owing to declining standards of behavior, they felt motivated from within to go into a Hangzhou store and steal. And I've got to tell you, as a result, our country lost a great deal of face last week due to these.....criminals. Why Trump bailed them out, I'll never know. I would have left them there to rot for at least two of the likely ten sentenced years. Now, Trump owes President Xi a return favor. Why waste an "I owe you" on three criminals caught on camera? Is Trump also going to also bail out every criminal shoplifting high-end sunglasses in the United States? No. So why give these three criminals a break? If Trump asked for their release with the promise they would spend time in a US jail, I could reluctantly accept that. But in fact they've been released, paying no price for their crime. The mysterious application of a double standard sends the wrong message to losers like the three below. Now, Trump is realizing his mistake: Now that the three basketball players are out of China and saved from years in jail, LaVar Ball, the father of LiAngelo, is unaccepting of what I did for his son and that shoplifting is no big deal. I should have left them in jail! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 19, 2017 .

  21. Buffett-Backed BYD to Open Electric-Truck Plant in Canada Bloomberg / November 15, 2017 BYD Co., the Chinese electric-vehicle maker backed by Warren Buffett, plans to open its first assembly plant in Canada, anticipating a surge in demand for electric trucks from municipalities and businesses. BYD, often described as China’s Tesla, will open the plant next year in Ontario and hire about 40 people to start, BYD Canada spokesman Ted Dowling said in a phone interview. The Shenzhen-based company has decided to “significantly” accelerate its investment in Canada as growing demand for electric vehicles and provincial tax incentives create a more welcoming environment than the U.S. in the short-term, he said. “There is less of a barrier to entry when it comes to having Chinese products in Canada compared to the U.S.,” Dowling said. BYD, which is partly owned by Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc., refused to say where in Ontario the plant will be, how much it plans to invest or any government incentives it was offered. It expects to make an announcement in a few weeks, Dowling said. BYD’s plan comes as countries shift to electric vehicles to combat climate change and reduce health risks. The U.K. and France plan to ban sales of diesel- and gasoline-fueled cars by 2040, while China has said it will set its own deadline. Some Canadian provinces are offering thousands of dollars in rebates to electric-vehicle buyers, and companies are moving toward electric fleets, with grocer Loblaws Cos. unveiling its first fully electric truck last week. Garbage Trucks BYD will start its operations in Ontario by shipping technology and components from China and making short-range vehicles such as garbage and delivery trucks, said Dowling. The company intends to expand, hiring more people to add more Canadian content in the future, he said. “BYD is a global company, but we like to localize,” Dowling said. “It doesn’t make sense to build everything in China and then ship it. It makes more sense to utilize the incentive programs and policy changes and create jobs in different markets.” The company opened an electric-bus manufacturing plant in Lancaster, California, starting with less than 100 employees in 2013 and has boosted that to 700 workers. New Industry A core attraction for Ontario is that the region around Toronto has many distribution centers within close proximity, so if one company goes electric and sees their costs reduced, other companies will start doing it too, he said. If successful, BYD could be at the forefront of rebuilding a dormant truck-manufacturing industry, Dowling said. Canada has been losing auto investment to cheaper locations in the U.S. and Mexico with one of the last major commercial truck assembly plants closing in Ontario in 2011. Ontario is still home to Canada’s auto industry with General Motors Co. and Ford Motor Co. among companies with plants in the province. “We’re bringing back an industry and we’re doing it through electrification,” Dowling said. “It’s a totally different game.”
  22. One of Tesla's first Semi truck buyers is a Canadian grocery chain Engadget / November 17, 2017 Tesla only just unveiled its Semi electric truck, but it's already lining up honest-to-goodness customers -- and we don't just mean for testing, either. Canadian grocery chain Loblaws has pre-ordered 25 of the giant EVs to haul food to its stores across the country. That's a larger purchase than Walmart (which ordered 15 for its test), and no small commitment when Tesla hasn't even revealed the (likely high) price. It may seem odd for Tesla to score one of its most important orders beyond the US, but it makes more sense knowing Loblaws' strategy. The supermarket giant recently committed to a 30 percent reduction in its overall carbon footprint by 2030, and it sees electric trucks playing an important role. It estimates that pulling diesel from its vehicles would be the equivalent of pulling 20,000 cars from the road. Tesla's Semi would clearly help toward that goal, and it might be a better option than existing electric trucks (like one Loblaws bought from BYD) if it lives up to claims of faster trips and greater safety. This is very unlikely to be Tesla's largest order, but it gives a sense of who its early customers are likely to be: well-heeled companies that have plenty of cargo to transport and pressure to fulfill environmental commitments. The real challenge comes after that: Tesla will have to persuade companies that either don't have a huge budget or are only interested in how electric trucks will affect their bottom line. Tesla has anticipated that to some extent (it's promising $200,000 in fuel savings for every 1 million miles), but success is far from guaranteed.
  23. U.S. rejects Ford, Mazda petitions to delay recall of Takata airbags Reuters / November 17, 2017 WASHINGTON -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Friday it was rejecting a petition by Ford Motor Co. to delay recall of about 3 million vehicles with potentially defective airbag inflators to conduct additional testing. The agency said it did not find the request by Ford to defer a recall until additional testing was conducted "reasonable under the circumstances or supported by the testing and data it has collected to date." Takata inflators can explode with excessive force, unleashing metal shrapnel inside cars and trucks. At least 18 deaths and 180 injuries worldwide have been tied to the defect that led Takata Corp. to file for bankruptcy protection in June and prompted at least 19 automakers to issue recalls. NHTSA also rejected a similar petition filed by Mazda Motor Co. covering about 6,000 vehicles. Mazda said in a statement it "takes our customers' safety as a single-minded top priority and continues to work hand-in-hand with NHTSA." The public can comment on NHTSA's decision until Dec. 18 on both Ford and Mazda's petitions. Mazda said it would "provide further information once NHTSA issues its final determination." Ford did not immediately say if it plans to challenge the agency's decision. "We will cooperate with the agency, as we always do," a spokeswoman said. The vehicles in question include the 2007-11 Ford Ranger, 2006-12 Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, 2006-11 Mercury Milan, and 2007-10 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX. In June, NHTSA said new testing prompted Takata to declare inflators defective in Ford, Nissan Motor Co. and Mazda vehicles in some driver-side airbags. Nissan agreed to a recall of 515,000 vehicles in July. NHTSA did agree in 2016 to a request by General Motors to delay a recall of 2.5 million vehicles with Takata airbag inflators as the Detroit automaker conducts additional testing to determine if the vehicles should have replacement inflators. Separately, a report issued Friday by an independent monitor of the Takata recalls said more than 10 million U.S. vehicles and 18.5 million faulty Takata airbag inflators remain unrepaired under the largest ever auto safety recall. Takata said in June that it has recalled, or expected to recall, about 125 million vehicles worldwide by 2019, including more than 60 million in the United States. The report said there are 43.1 million Takata airbag inflators under recall in 31.5 million vehicles today, with the tally to be expanded to about 65 million inflators by the end of 2018. Of those, 24.6 million inflators in 20 million vehicles have been repaired, the report found. In 2019, another 4.1 million vehicles will be recalled to replace interim repair inflators.
  24. Do unto them as they did to their victims. An eye for an eye. We all believe in the "rule of law". However, in cases of murder where there is indisputable proof, I would like to see the murderer(s) executed within 24 hours. It's just that simple, and it would largely solve the problem. Anyone who intentionally snuffs out the life of another human being has, inherently, by the actions of their own hands, lost their right to live. Drastic situations require drastic measures, and we've reached that point.
  25. Guys, it all boils down to having a heart-driven passion for Mack Trucks and the truck business, and that passion was planted in all of us back when by Zenon Hansen. Zenon taught us an all-new thought process centered around pride and the bulldog. Mack wasn't a job, but rather a way of life. When Zenon was named Mack's president on January 7, 1965, Mack Trucks was literally reborn. It was Mack 2.0. Long after Zenon retired, his legacy, his inspiration, lived on in the hearts of every Mack employee. Which is why I say, what Volvo Group has done, reduce an American icon down to a mere shell of its former self, should be a crime.
