Republican senators pushed a $340 billion budget framework to passage early Friday, working through an all-night session and Democratic opposition in a step toward unleashing money the Trump administration needs for mass deportation and border security. President Trump's Department of Justice has launched an investigation into UnitedHealth Group's Medicare billing practices in recent months. The new civil fraud investigation is examining the company’s practices for recording diagnoses that trigger extra payments to its Medicare Advantage plans, including at physician groups that the insurance giant owns. [They have created a monopoly] Last year, the WSJ learned that Medicare paid UnitedHealth billions of dollars for questionable diagnoses. Attorneys with the DoJ as recently as January 31 interviewed medical providers named by the WSJ. In the Medicare Advantage system, insurers get lump-sum payments from the federal government to oversee enrollees’ Medicare benefits. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has asked the Postal Service Board of Governors to begin looking for his successor. DeJoy became the head of USPS in the summer of 2020 during President Trump's first term. President Trump is considering signing an executive order this week bringing the 250-year-old independent USPS under the control of the Commerce Department and Secretary Howard Lutnick. The Trump administration on Thursday cancelled temporary legal protections for Haitian migrants living in the United States, laying the groundwork for them to deported within 6 months. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem rescinded a June 2024 Biden administration extension of temporary legal status for hundreds of thousands of Haitians in the United States. The Biden administration had cited dangerous conditions in Haiti that made it unsafe for them to return, granting them protections until February 2026. In August, up to 500,000 Haitians, some who entered the U.S. illegally and others who were authorized to enter via Biden-era programs, will hopefully lose Temporary Protected Status. ---------------------------------------------------------- Haiti is always dangerous. President Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday that stops taxpayer money from going to illegal aliens. The White House says President Trump is “committed to safeguarding Federal public benefits for American citizens who are truly in need, including individuals with disabilities and veterans.” The President is demanding "corrective action" to stop “all taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal aliens.” Currently, children are entitled to a free K-12 public education regardless of immigration status under a 1982 Supreme Court ruling. Noting a 1996 law overhauling welfare benefits that denies most illegal aliens public benefits, President Trump says “over the last four years, the prior administration repeatedly undercut” it. The executive order directs all departments and agencies to identify federal benefit spending that is inconsistent with the 1996 welfare law. He says the Biden administration's border crisis resulted “in the improper expenditure of significant taxpayer resources.” The president is taking action against his predecessors use of parole to allow people into America on a temporary basis, including the controversial CBP One app used at the Mexican border that allowed 900,000 migrants in. More than 500,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans who flew to the US at their own expense with a financial sponsor took advantage of the program. President Trump immediately ended both programs. Biden also granted parole to nearly 300,000 people from Ukraine and Afghanistan. People granted parole for over one year are considered “qualified non-citizens,” making them eligible for income-based benefits after five years including Medicaid and the Children´s Health Insurance Program (which provides coverage to children in families that earn too much money to qualify for Medicaid). The order also directs federal department and agencies to identify all federally funded programs currently providing any financial benefits to illegal immigrants in the country and put a stop to it. The executive order “ensures that Federal funds to states and localities will not be used to support sanctuary policies or assist illegal immigration.” It also includes a mandate to improve benefit eligibility verification to make sure benefits are not going to immigrants in the US illegally.
