  1. LOL.... You know that anything green will sell, doesn't have to run but Damn it has to look GOOD.... Looks like they sprayed it down with Tire Shine like at the cheap truck wash. Back in the day back in Cleveland, Earl Schibb "painted" if you call it that any car for $149.95 Leave the windows down and they'd spray the interior for free, guess they forgot to roll down the windows,
  2. It maybe a governor issue buy more than likely it is not. I drove a few trucks that were really touchy just bobtailing around. Get a trailer behind them with a little load and they smooth right out. Some engines just like a load on to run right at any speed. The old v-pumps V8's do act like that more than a 6 cylinder. The only engine that is worse is my old supercharged 320 cummins that has a slightly turned up PT pump and I only run around bobtail. Got to slip the clutch when it starts bucking or lunging at part throttle to get it to settle down and keep in the throttle a little after that. Keeping the RPM's up seems to help the lunging as it is bumping on the high idle governor limit. Planting your boot heel helps steady your foot to. Another thought, I don't think your year engine has a puff limiter but that would certainly help dampen the throttle response and lunging.
  3. It looks like a new fangled cigar cutter or ultra shaver head for Hairy's or Bic. Need to clean the table before taking a photo because of all those white specks everywhere. 👍
  4. I got a 300/320 and that ain't it. Plus I don't see piston cooler plugs that a 300/320 would have. Injection pump looks to be a disc not a PT so it is old, old. Intake and exhaust are on opposite sides on a four valve 743. The mystery continues...
  5. Along with the upgrading to ceramic pucks instead of the old organic disc helped me a lot. That old organic would start to smelling real quick with just slipping it a little. I had heavier springs put in the pressure plate as well, which really did the trick, and not to heavy on the left foot. No issues since and it is a double disc behind an 866 V8. Correct the bell housing is different and input shaft is longer to run a double disc and really hard to find any parts for the setup anymore. Don't know if they are still doing rebuilds on clutches but South Bend Clutch in Indiana did mine years ago.
  6. Thought I knew my Cummins but that is an odd one for me. Or maybe before my time anyway. Looks like it has been inside for its life, I'd say it probably runs. Both intake and exhaust ports are on the same side. Is that a two valve head not a four valve? Small 672? or 743 Cu/In. What spec. is it?
  7. OK then, after 28 years there maybe a few modifications to a truck that took place or it may have options factory installed. As for 600 or 700 series, nether came with a Lund visor, stainless rear fenders, aux hyd. tank or 6 inch exhaust and if we are really counting the LED turn signals, but who is counting? It still is a beautiful 28 year old truck standing tall and proud. 👍
  8. I had that problem with one or two trucks. It was the fuel, sitting there for an extended time it started to turn bad by the smell in the tanks. Drained the fuel, changed the filter and ran them around for 60-70 miles and all was back to normal. Putting some good diesel fuel system cleaner in also helped. Do not start adjusting the pump for anything before checking the fuel.
  9. No intentions from me to say where this place is, but it is not in PA. I just think it is a little fun to know there are some honey holes out there that have been there for a long long time. All of a sudden the place is a secret for some reason. Just glad to hear that parts are being sold and not being left to further rust to nothing. If there are guys here that are in need of parts there is a section here for that. Most items someone has, are still available from Mack, or a lead can be had for the parts. If I have any parts that I will not need I do offer them when I see someone looking. I don't have that many parts anymore as I am down to my last restorations, car or truck, that I am going to ever do. It takes a lot of money and time to rebuild or restore anything even if the parts are available these days. To fine an older restoration or nice original truck that needs a new home is far cheaper and faster way to go. Parts came from California, New Jersey, Maine, Texas, Florida plus10 other states to finish my first truck. So there are or were a lot of honey holes out there. I always liked walking junkyards and fine treasures every now and then. The hunt is part of the satisfaction keeping old stuff running at least for me.👍
  10. Yep, thought I was done in May with one dog gone and one to go. That was short lived, a good dog is a great friend. He even listened to all the yelling with the wife and still came over to lick my hand to say he was still my friend. Always happy to see me, eat with me, sit with me, even more than the wife.... Maybe that is why I got two puppies this time. If you don't have a dog that can defend and protect you what is the sense of having a dog? A friend is nice but one with big teeth, attitude and Shepherd size is better than a yappy lap dog any day.
  11. Lots of new stuff at our place lately, in addition to the 2 new puppies this puppy showed up at my door yesterday. Been waiting on it for about 8 months now and it is rebuilt, dyno tested and ready to go behind a stout twin turbo E9. This will be a long project but at least I got the big components ready and setting here when the time comes. This is going in a MH to go drag racing, as no sled pulling in this side of the country. I got the truck on bill of sale only, so it will never be on the road again. Just going to have some fun with it non the less. Think of calling it "The Flying Brick" or "Junkyard Dog" maybe something else, any ideas?
  12. There have been a few good old dogs that have past in the past months. One of them was my St. Barnard in May. He out lived all of the 9 in his litter by almost 2 years, so he had a really good happy life, he was almost 11 1/2 years old. His buddy, the black jelly bean in the photo an Australian Shepherd is now 8 and was lost until now. We did not want another 150lbs dog, just for the size, The St Barnard was the best dog I ever had. Doing a lot of searching for the perfect puppies to keep him going for a number of years we fond a litter pure breed Karakachan's, Bulgarian Shepherds, and 12 weeks old today. There are only about 1400 of them in the county, we had a 2000 mile, 3 day road trip home with them, they traveled Great. The new ones should top out at 100lbs which is plenty. This is all 3 after an hour of play, a kibble and a little fresh fish dinner, nap time. Then up in an hour or so to start over. They are super smart for their age. Man these puppies are full of a lot of #1 and #2, and already know the pee pad locations if we do not get them out the door in time.
  13. As I said earlier in this tread I know where all this is but holding the tongue for a while. I hope that Captain Crutch is going to get his parts and not take forever as there is just to much good stuff there to hold off all the Mack hound dogs, we are all friends here, Right? I think there maybe a prototype or two there as it is in true Mack country all you have to do is look.
  14. Been by there a year ago and do not remember it being so organized. Also looks like they added to the collection of MH's, B's and more fire trucks. Glad someone is getting some good parts and they are selling. It is to far for me to go and parts pick. Good luck and Good find. 👍 Looks like more than a few of those Mack were actual Mack company trucks in factory red, white & blue colors. See the V-Mac on the side of one MH. Maybe it was a test truck, don't think there was a V-Mac offered in a MH.
  15. I'd say it's an AMBAC from the AMBAC tag on it. Year old post as well.
  16. Yep... One turbo with the new technology is more than most diesel engines can deal with. I try and talk guys out of turning things up. It can be done but at a substantial cost in parts and time at least with a big diesel. Want to tweak things get an old 350 Chevy and play. There are books written on all that can be done and it works, most of the time. Parts are cheap and available in a day or two at your door step, not so with a Mack. I like big power and have several 1000hp rides, one is my Superliner. It is crazy and no one can use that power for more than a short amount of time. Then have to work on it for hours to do it again... but it is fun at least for a while. Yes there has been heads, pistons, liners, bearing, blocks and turbos scraped in the carnage of fun. I just don't nail it much any more to have "fun" working on stuff like i used to. I just what the stuff to stay running now. 👍
  17. Don't know what your end result is, work truck play truck or just a challenge. As for spooling up and the time it takes, the limiting factor at least with a Mack is the Mack transmission if that is what you are using. The Mack trans will not shift until the engine winds down to pull it into a higher gear, it just will not speed shift and there is a lot of mass to slow down with big triple countershafts spinning not to mention slowing the engine RPM's. Forget about any shifting at all above 2500RPM's. An old Allison HT740 or 754 would be the way to go for shifting and once the turbo is "spook up" as you say it will stay there until you lift your foot. There is a lot involved with doing a compound turbo set-up. A lot of calculations and development to get a set-up to work every day in all conditions. Years ago there were a few compound turbo truck engines and the end result was to get more boost than what a single turbo would produce, like a 475 Cat and 2008 to 2014? Ford Powerstroke, the Mack E9 tank engine. Fast forward to today and it is EZ to get 60 plus pounds of boost out of the new technology aftermarket turbos. The new turbo set-ups are smaller twin turbos for faster spooling as boost PSI is no longer a factor to achieve. A nice new BW S480 turbo is about $1200 and more than most E6's can handle. Turbo lag has been reduced as the rotating mass of the new turbos is much less and efficiency is much greater than turbos from the 1970-1990's, when the E6 engine was produced. Have fun but there is a much easier way to get more boost reliably, At least enough to blow head gaskets, scorch pistons and spin rod bearing. As for cool factor most guys would just ask why or say: It's a Mack "performance counts" just not high performance. By the way I think Staxx is getting about 1000hp out of a single turbo on his race truck.
  18. If it was a truck application it would probable not last long at the hand or foot of a company driver. Being in a boat is an entirely different working environment. The engine has great cooling to start with. There is loading the engine for long periods of time reducing shock and cycle loading, etc. The Mack E9 was rated at 900hp for marine use and had problems at 610hp in a truck. If the loading is slow and steady as used in a boat the engine can live a long life. Of course time between rebuilds are shorter than a truck engine but it is a matter of safety. No one wants an engine failure 250 miles out to sea and good preventative maintenance is paramount. If an E7 is still in a boat at 750hp it has been doing it for a long time already. If the builder was Jack McDevitt that has a lot of restored Mack's and a dealership the engine was done right.
  19. Columbus Diesel in Ohio can make just about any fuel line. It will be straight and you will have to bend it. The main issue is the new line is the same length and diameter as the one that needs to be made over. Just look them up on the net.
  20. There is already a post going on about the same thing here: Superliner Heater Cover in the Cab And Interior Section. Just read and get caught up. Look for post that already pertain to a subject, and not start a new one for the something, Its a Newby mistake being excited to post and all. OH be the way ....
  21. The easiest thing to do is change the pig in the rear. That is the differential portion of the rear end with a drop in from a rebuilder or take-out from a truck salvage yard. You what to get into the 3.7 range to do around 70mph with a direct in 5th transmission with all else being the same. Don't worry about winding it up quick to get to a fire for a hobby truck. Just worry about getting to a show before the show is over doing 50mph as is.
  22. I only hear that UPS had the 4x4 MH and did not take more then the initial order. Great to actually see one. It has a very unusual step frame that was only used on this application along with the huge transfer case. Think there was something special with the front axle as well. Defiantly a one and only to survive. Incredible to even get out of UPS in one piece. What does it have for power and trans? It needs to go into good hands for sure.
  23. Had to read that twice. Thought it said bumper... what bumper? Having one would have saved the fender. As Mike about a bumper and brackets if you get the fender from him, it can only help to prevent a "fender bender" next time. Yes, it is a bummer that someone could not see a Mack truck parked being a very small vehicle and all.

    R700 hood

These is a good 1967 long nose R hood close to Cleveland Ohio, or at least there was about two years ago. My Jerk brother has it, is all there no big cracks to really fix, had the hard to find chrome trim around the grill opening. Still may have the R700 emblems on it but he'll sell anything for a buck. Who knows but was just sitting in my barn for years then I took it up to him when I cleaned it out and it still maybe in his barn. Haven't talked to him in years but if interested I could find his number.
  25. Go to: RW Air Ride Assist on Front Axel in (Search). This goes over what I think you are asking. I did it to my RW as no kit was available. Not hard just have to think about it, do a little drilling, welding and have a few beers.. Just get it done.
