  1. Go big or go home, BW S500-91 turbo. Bigger money than a BW S480 though. At that point ,pump, injectors, heads, empty wallet...
  2. There are 2 O-rings that go on the return tube and silicone sealer. What you have there is a little to much, looks like the whole tube of sealer.. The return tube fits down in the block about an inch and a half to 2 inches. That tube looks like it has seen better days and may need replaced. There are only 2 bolts that hold the turbo manifold on. The third one maybe drilled in the manifold but the block is not drilled or tapped in all the E9's I have seen. If you are reusing the manifold and/or turbo the mounting surfaces are alway warped and it is hard to get a good seal. Take a straight edge and see how bad. It is worth a few dollars to have a machine shop mill them flat again maybe .010-.015 off the surfaces. Also use a divided gasket not an open one like in the photo.
  3. That is what this forum is about having an issue and collectively finding a solution. There are different ways of thinking about timing but even if we find it off to Mack spec, how did they time theses engine in the first place? I was told that the optimum timing for and E9 was 19 Degrees but is that static or dynamic readings? Valve cover states 13 degrees.
  4. Not many of those big dyno's out this side of the country. Bet it would be some $$ to get one for a few hours to test and tune. Most (all) shops don't what someone messing up a big buck piece of equipment to play around with big HP. I don't blame them ether. Last dyno my truck was on was to small and quit reading at 1100HP, don't know it it hurt the dyno but they did not test it further. If you got one in mind I will put it to work??
  5. I have a V pump on the 866 and have old plungers. On that pump there is a retard notch on the plungers for easer starting. If the rack is in full fuel it goes to this notch and retards the timing. Is it the same on your V pump or different plungers for pulling? Don't know if the notch was used on the E9. I will see if there is a notch on my inline but have not heard anyone talk about it. I have a few old plungers to take a photo if needed. I have never needed to touch the throttle to start any of my V8's. They just fire up almost instantly.
  6. Hay Albert, You what to hang on the frame rail with the timing gun pointed at the balancer while I'm going down the track hooked to the sled? You still have a old hood we could cut a hole in? That will put a good load on her for a few seconds. Oh crap forgot no passengers per the pulling rules... LOL Maybe a good use for a GoPRo camera and timing light rigged up under the hood??? Glenn got a solution just had to think about it for a minute.
  7. What I have to do is take out the delivery valve and do the static timing to get a baseline. I know how to do that and until now was the only way I set timing. Just bought a Kent-Moore J-33300 timing tool (clamp on) on Ebay for $200, about as cheap as I have found. I will then see how far off it reads and just adjust the timing difference in going forward. That way I can adjust timing without the mess of pulling pump valve apart every time. Thanks Guys for the help.
  8. Isn't that the old air and tube in a jar way of doing it? Can do it with air or fuel pumping in to supply port. It's about 5 bucks in parts or an I not understanding? Is that the accurate way of doing it? From Glenn, how far off are the clamp on lights? I am looking for accuracy here. Sorry just have questions on what to get.
  9. Thinking that way to. I like what I have but maybe a different paint job. Don't have good storage for more trucks but adding on is not out of the question. More storage I like that idea, so more Mack's You Guys have some nice 2/3 wheelers.. 70 in NJ today WOW that is bike weather anywhere.
  10. I have the best of the world a few dogs, Macks, and a hog, Harley, to keep me working on something. Ya know what they both have in common, comin from the factory with a leak or two. I have high hopes this Christmas and it is coming true. Believe it or not the wife said I should go and look at a new Harley, after Christmas. I got a nice one but it is getting up in years or so she said. So time for a new one but I still like the old one. I don't know how to take this one, I'm getting up in years too, so... My old Mack's are off the table but those new HD's are sure nice. Anyway do you Guy's have 2 wheelers old or new?
  11. Ho, Ho Ho.. Best Wishes and Full Dog Dishes to ALL. Merry Christmas to All And to the others Happy Holidays!!
  12. First what are you dealing with, got a 5 speed, sound like direct in 5th. A 3 speed Aux, box is worth about 200 to 300 RPM's in overdrive. Like Superdog said it should be good to 75 MPH @ 2100RPM. I like 4.17's got them in my B with a double over Quad and 75MPH is 1800RPM on big rubber.
  13. Best price I saw was $355 for it. I also was looking at the one that clamps on the #1 injector line and uses a timing strobe timing light gun. It's about $460 though. I have set point/ dual points on many gas engines with feeler gages to the spec., remember dwell meters to, double checked with a timing light gun to find I was off a degree or two. I can also check timing at specific RPM's, You and I know static timing can't do that and what we are doing to these engines can really effect performance. I think the clamp on with strobe light is the way to go and it can be used on anything with a mechanical injector pump. Just cant bring myself to part with $460 at the moment. An adapter box is from the UK and about $190 and use a standard strobe timing gun but no RPM readout still with a good gun it's about $260 total. Still looking... anyone got what I need?
  14. I would think about giving one of my dogs a new home if I got that for Christmas. Man I have been GOOD this year... but still wondering at what..
  15. Looking for a Kent-Moore or OTC J-37077 injector pump timing AB light. For timing P7100 pumps.
  16. That is NUTS but my brother does it a lot on the farm. Said its the only way to get a skid steer tire back on the bead without taking the wheel off the machine. He had alway been a little crazy though. Sorry to hear a person was killed setting a bead, unfortunately it will not be the last time.
  17. I thing you are missing your calling, restoration. Details are the difference between Good work and Great work, that is some Great work. That dog is to nice to go to work, are you sure it is a woking dog? The other Supers are Great too, no doubt there is pride in the pack. OK now I have to go and work on my Super you have raised the bar. The dog facing issue, do the dogs face each other on the mud flaps? That is the way I have them. Been told both ways what way is right?
  18. Flea Bay (mack hub cap) 18 hours left at $30 now.
  19. www.taillightking.com is the place I got my Green marker lights, plastic lens. Not KD 517's but new. For $100 all 5 lights that match was a deal, 3 green and 2 amber. Even got red, blue and purple plus replacement glass lens for other lights. No one as ever asked if they were original, they do look good on the LTL. Had to redrill one hole. Old hole is covered by the light anyway.
  20. Perfectly said Paul. I would add do it for the passion, fun, hobby, interest....
  21. I can say that I will never get the money out of most of my stuff if sold. I do restorations and have bought restorations. It is far cheaper to buy a restored vehicle than do one. The reason I do them is it is exactly what I want and money is secondary. That said My B was restored by Matt Pfahl's it was when I was working like crazy and making crazy money. Time was what I did not have. My budget was $90K but you know how that works. There is stupid money in it on top of all the parts I had to start with. It is what I wanted though. I had to buy the wife a new Corvette to make peace. I bought a 34 Ford at auction years ago for $50K plus the juice. It was perfect and all real steel. Years late a guy told me he knew the car and worked on the restoration/ modification of it, said there was $270K in the car!! Divorce was the reason for the sale. If I could get $60K for it I would sell it today. What anything is worth is what someone is willing to pay for it. If you are looking at these old trucks to get out the money you put in don't get involved at the prices you are hearing. Those guys saying that a restored truck is only worth $10-20K are living in the past. Or lowballing prices but why? A nice B, LT or really any big truck, with rebuilt engine, cab, frame off restoration can go from $30-40K easy up to the cost of a new truck. depending on a lot of things. Time involved is a big factor. Just a reman engine is $10K and up.
  22. Like a man that knows the limit of the wallet. I sad the same thing and know you have the addition to old iron dogs, you'll get more.
  23. MAN that is a smokin deal. I have an extra E9 that would be right at home. Hope it went to a lovin home... I think there will be more with CAL Regs being enforced. I am waiting. I got a good home for a few. Like the round head light Supers..
  24. There are a few places to go for antique lens and whole lights. Just Google. I was looking for Green KD lens for my LTL cab lights. hard to come by but found a few websites and got two sets in a matter of a week. Good luck, they are out there.
  25. It's a RAT ROD, Just proves my point, oh forgot what the point was.... oh yea to much time and money.. LOL He's Expressing himself as an artist. Some thought went into that one.
