Restored truck prices?
AZB755V8 replied to Dieseldriver65's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I can say that I will never get the money out of most of my stuff if sold. I do restorations and have bought restorations. It is far cheaper to buy a restored vehicle than do one. The reason I do them is it is exactly what I want and money is secondary. That said My B was restored by Matt Pfahl's it was when I was working like crazy and making crazy money. Time was what I did not have. My budget was $90K but you know how that works. There is stupid money in it on top of all the parts I had to start with. It is what I wanted though. I had to buy the wife a new Corvette to make peace. I bought a 34 Ford at auction years ago for $50K plus the juice. It was perfect and all real steel. Years late a guy told me he knew the car and worked on the restoration/ modification of it, said there was $270K in the car!! Divorce was the reason for the sale. If I could get $60K for it I would sell it today. What anything is worth is what someone is willing to pay for it. If you are looking at these old trucks to get out the money you put in don't get involved at the prices you are hearing. Those guys saying that a restored truck is only worth $10-20K are living in the past. Or lowballing prices but why? A nice B, LT or really any big truck, with rebuilt engine, cab, frame off restoration can go from $30-40K easy up to the cost of a new truck. depending on a lot of things. Time involved is a big factor. Just a reman engine is $10K and up. -

That is a BIG BOY!! Nice. I like fenders you can walk on. The only animal I can think of is an Elephant... BIG and don't get in its way... -
Glad no one was hurt in this. Pad or axel mount failure is a sure thing here. I would not be to quick to point the finger at the mechanic. Take a look at the trunnion placement to the rear gate, that is a lot of distance. It looks like an old coal bucket setup. All the weight is over the boogies and not distributed over the length of the frame. Overloading the boogies can be done and the whole truck be under weight. The failure was triggered when the truck went over the bridge "bump" that is a huge shock load at that speed and loaded, just one to many times. I would be looking at bad chassis engineering. Maybe that is why the the trunnion was replaced in the first place.

Working B73
AZB755V8 replied to Bigdogtrucker's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Nice looking Big nose B. Glad to see it still doing what it dose best. Hope it has power steering. Drivers out here would rather stay home than drive something with a stick or two, no AC, automatic or stereo like that though. Happy to see it working and a guy driving it... -

Rat Rods
AZB755V8 replied to mackdaddy's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I am opinionated about this subject. I do hate rat rods. I love an original Mack truck or a top notch restoration, Personal expression is OK but why screw up a perfectly good Mack to express yourself??? I have looked a rat rods as just that a vehicle that is something that is just "something" and not really anything. If you take all the parts and time to put "something" together should it be "something" and not just your personal expression? The Best that anyone can say is "that is something" but what is the point? It takes a lot of everything, time, money, respect and research to have a correct truck and a rat rod is just a wish it could be... Just my 2 cents. -
Ben there done that.. The only way to get rid of the mice is traps and peanut butter and more than one trap!! I have not found a way to simply but down a poison or smell to stop those SOB's from getting into the wiring and cushions in the trucks for the winter. Peanut butter on the trap and checking it frequently is the only sure way... F@#$ the cat only way they help is if hungry or what they to bring you a present.

Gotta love door openers. Had the opposite happen to me. pressed the remote opener turned around and stared backing in with the plow. I took out the whole 16 foot OH door, dead batteries in the remote... We still call the plow tractor BUMPER. I did have the sensors by the floor but took them out too. LOL. Kids remind me of it when I go out to plow every winter.

If your looking at the Jetter truck my brother has a good R700 hood with good stainless. PM me if interested. It's in the barn in Cleveland, Ohio.

I just did a post in the forum about E9's worth. It is all over the place, I know of several whole running trucks going for $2500 and up. Good running inline pump 500 engines fetching $6000. Put your truck up on the for sale section at your price and see if you get a call. Washington has guy still running them. Condition and location is a factor to how is interested. I would be but I'm in AZ to far for a spare engine.

Wish I could help. I have a 53 LTL but did not come with front brakes. I think most LTL 6 wheelers did not have them. Good luck find them. Only place to find part numbers would be the Mack museum. Think most books are long gone.

In most states there is collector car and truck insurance. I have it on all my trucks, including a 1988 Superliner. There are restriction like NO commercial use, you can't make a dime with the vehicle in any way. A fire truck I think would more than qualify unless you are starting a pay to put out your fire business. I see in your handle, tours, that would be a problem. The point is that with collector insurance it is a limited use vehicle and at least in AZ and OH it is emissions exempt. Check the laws in NY and see if this is true there. If not title it in another state. It's a lot cheaper than what you are talking about and saving a Mack! Went to a kids Birthday party a few years ago in AZ and a pay to play fire truck was there with crew and gave rides. It was Detroit powered and not modified so it can be done if it is a business.

Know Oak Island up in the North West made reproductions. Maybe they are still in business. Know a Guy that has NOS LT parts, including new Oak Island hoods. Have one on my LTL take a look in my other post. He is not cheap or young, but try finding new 60 year old parts. I got a new LT floor mat, exhaust stack, alum muffler guard, bottom stack elbow... that are impossible to find, all NOS. PM me if interested, I will ask he if he wants to talk to you. Told a few about my deal that know him and they said he never sells anything,Ii must have made an impression, Great guy and speaks his mind.

Advise on B 75 LT purchase
AZB755V8 replied to eddeere's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Take a look at my E9 post, I started with a B75 that looked to be about that condition. I paid about that for it back years ago. after an additional 4 donor trucks It is totally restored now. Start with something that you are comfortable with and find the one that is in the BEST condition you can AFFORD. You may change direction in the restoration and more than likely get another one for parts. descent trucks are out there but going up in $$. As long as the sheet metal is good with minimal rot, rust and dents it worth thousands in the body shop. Those rears look vintage correct and reverse camelback was available in 64 I believe. It maybe born a 6 wheeler but many truck have changes rears, engines, trans and frame length though their lives. If it is what you are looking for make a deal for it, worst is saying I should have bought it and passed. If you go and sell it what is the worst you are going to lose a grand or two? -

1954 Mack LTL
AZB755V8 replied to j hancock's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
It is amazing what some guys have hidden and get out almost never. I was in California this summer at an engine shop waiting for them to dyno my engine. A guy come in and said to come over to his place to kill a little time, I did and holly crap!! There were about a dozen old XK Jags there in various states of restoration. One I had only seen in photo's and had a full race history, value $15,000,000 and just sitting there dust covered and beautiful. A Maserati one of four built and on... Just crazy to see million dollar cars in an old I mean old warehouse outside of San Fransisco. How would think. Was in Vegas 15 years ago at Wheeler Construction, wonder if it is still in business? and he has several LT's gas and diesel setting there in his fenced in yard. Non were for sale but in great shape sitting in the dessert for 30 years. Maybe they are still there. -
1954 Mack LTL
AZB755V8 replied to j hancock's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
That is animal cruelty leaving a helpless old dog out in the elements. It needs rescued and good home. There are a few LT's out here in AZ even they rust after 30-40 years outside. I went to look at them several years ago, not much left but to the owner worth their weight in gold. Sitting in a field not worth to much to anyone but maybe what could be... All I know is that I am doing my part to save a few old truck for others to enjoy with me. Wish I could save more.
