Waking up the E9
AZB755V8 replied to AZB755V8's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Thanks, really did not know that. Intercooling would be much the same as an E9. Both engines have the same turbo and intake layout. There is a few inches differance in location but tubes could easily be bent up. I don't know if I would be turning up the pump and intercooling an 865/866 though. The heads are 2 valve and prone to cracking into the exhaust valve seat and dropping inserts. I had to go through a pile of heads to get a good set. Parts are a REAL issue, I have both engines and am just happy my 866 is as good as it is. It is rebuilt with less than 1000 miles on it. I did it back 20 years ago when Mack still had parts. Used standard main bearings and there were 3 differand standard bearing listed but only one set avalible at that time. Oil pressure is OK but runs 35-55 hot, almost 75 cold. Intercooling would get you about 40-50 hp but probably at a cost in broken parts. Just my two cents worth.- 55 replies

Waking up the E9
AZB755V8 replied to AZB755V8's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
That's funny... When I rebuilt the 866 with 27 degrees timing. I thought it was a lot. The engine I started with had 3 cracked heads!! I had to go through another 12 heads to find a good set. ALL 865/866 have at least one or two cracked heads no matter what. Maybe that is why Mack took a lot of timing out with the E9. Thats another question for Dale when I see him,TIMING.- 55 replies

Waking up the E9
AZB755V8 replied to AZB755V8's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Al, Found Steve's notes on my engine. He was not into custom parts to much and used the military spec stuff. The injector tips are Bosch 0 433 171 341. Curt Price did my pump at Antrim, A stock motor runs best at 19 degrees timing as Steve states but I think I have around 25 degrees. What are you guys running on timing? My old 866 in the B755 had 27 degrees on the valve cover tag as spec. It sort of clackes a bit, I think it sounds good with a little "hunting" going on, about 50-100 rpms at idle, just a slight rock if Ya Know what I mean. That pump, injectors were done at the old R&R Mack in Twinsburg Ohio. Turbos.... All I know is bigger is not always better, more psi over a larger rpm range is for me. Pullers I think like it all at top rpm, is that right?I got two small turbo's on one of my cars and it is a rocketship beteewn 3500 to 7500 rpm's- 55 replies

1947 MACK LJT, HEADLINER KIT?
AZB755V8 replied to ljmack's topic in Exterior, Cab, Accessories and Detailing
I got my LT kit from them last year and it was perfect. It's a shame if them quit making them. They did have the patterns as of a year ago. If needed in still have my old interior panels that are in near great shape for a restoration but not perfect like new. If interested I will get some photos. -

Your Superliner really runs,WOW! Is that with a 13mm V Pump? EGT gets to 1050-1100 under load but I have not had it pullin or draging myself yet. It Is goverened at 4500 but I have not had it there for more than a second or two playing around. No I do not have stock heads on this engine. Francis is doing another set for me now for the other engine to. I still use this truck and turbos comin on at 2000rpm plus doesn't work for me now. Where are those 4.1 comin in at? I should talk to Dale about it in a week or two when I am at his place.- 55 replies

The light weight B's are not that uncommon. there were more of them out West. That is were I found the two that I have. They are lighter but at a cost. Remember most of them were built with surplus war scrap aluminum. Most of the castings are weak and cracked if you can find them today. My B-75 radiator is polished and you can see about 3 different shades and mix lines in the castings. The LTL's had a lot of aluminum in them. There are over 140 aluminum pieces that totaled 2000lbs weight savings in the "L" version. I don't think there is one left that has all the aluminum intact now. There has been several aluminum front engine mount put in mine all cracked, cracked though once and dropped the engine, tore up the fan shroud with the fan, rear aluminum cross over with the drive shaft last time. One thing, think twice about those original aluminum air tanks. I have several and did not use one. They are SUPER THIN compared to new tanks and all have corrosion, inside if not on the outside. My LTL had them and now has steel ones, the B-755 has new Aluminum Pete tanks. The old tanks are dangerous after 50 years. Don't mess with old aluminum air tanks if you intend on driving it.

Couple of in process photo's almost ready to roll the Superliner out after two years in storage. Top one is before storage, bottom two dusty and being worked on. New 6 inch pipes, chain locker, Radiator, intercoolers, seats, interior, train horns, chrome, powder coating, engine mods. I know of the Red MH "Thunder Dog" but have not seen it in years. It was an Amtrim modified truck and did well pullin out East.- 55 replies

Waking up the E9
AZB755V8 replied to AZB755V8's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
She really lugs starting in that gear but you maybe right, that only give me 3 shifts in a 1/4 mile. I don't get to 18 before that, top end is scary. It'll do an EZ 125mph on 65 mph rated front floats... well she is good for more with .78 over and 3.76 rears but tires are an issue. RPM's are governed at 4500, where you at?. 13mm Pump was done in 2004 at Antrim with sized nozzles, have the tip spec. but need to find it. It has 60-62psi boost up to then. I can't knock headers in an E9, but don't understand how they can work with all the back pressure before the turbo. All the exhaust has to go through those little 2" cross-over tubes and turbo hot side or do you use bigger, tubes, housing? I had to modify some stuff to get the H5 Holset to fit right and get the blanket on it. It was the biggest housing and mount I could fit. I still use this truck to pull a drop deck so I need the turbo at 1500rpm's. I maybe as far as I can go and still use it for both fun and work. That it why the second intercooler I can turn on when needed for 125 extra HP. I really have not heard of getting much more than 65psi boost out of a single stage turbo set up. To get more boost, compounding turbos, heavy engine mods, a lot of tuning and Big Big Bucks!!! PM me if you want to share.- 55 replies

Waking up the E9
AZB755V8 replied to AZB755V8's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Got to admit your truck moves out like few I have seen!! Have to line up side by side some day. That is where I was going to start but that is 3 Hi on the low side, on an 18spd, 3.76 locker rears, then up from there. Man I have an Old H5 Holset 3.6@60psi. It comes on at 1800rpm's. what the heck will that 4.1 come in at? Will it be making the same boost? I have Frances doing some work for me now. He said I could go bigger but the only thing was raising the rpm range and the same 60psi. Thinking of going with 14mm plungers with the inline, I like smoke!! When we test drove it a few years age going 60 them hammers it to 85 in about 3 second, Dan said the speedo was right and take a look at the car we just passed. All I could see was smoke ,sorta felt like James Bond with one bad ass smoke screen with the car breaking though about 200 feet back.- 55 replies

Waking up the E9
AZB755V8 replied to AZB755V8's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
That's what I was thinking, She pulls like a 14.xx sec. but a time slip is proof, not just talk!! With the new intercooler low14's. I'll see in a month or two. I got a Mack 18 spd but will be skipping about every 4 gears, shiftin cost time. There's a good 2000 rpm range to work with when she's on the turbo. Did you get a new pump set-up recently? What are you runnin?- 55 replies

Waking up the E9
AZB755V8 replied to AZB755V8's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I have used GPS on the phone in my other truck for speed, The Speedo was off about 11mph I found. I am putting all new gauges in this truck, a GPS speedo was at the top of the list. My kids do the marked off 1/4 mile thing with their car friends, I just have to find out where it's at! I go to Wildhorse Strip, its only 20 minutes from the house, gota be a dad and promote the right (safe) way. Plus have to trailer my cars anyway.- 55 replies

I did but the .pdf is all that I have now. All the vidio was takin down about two years ago. It was up for around 8 years though. All that I can do with it on this side of the country is Drag Race, no real pullin going on. Anyone have an Idea of what she would run? I would hope 14's- 55 replies

Thunderdog.pdf The Superliner has been Sleeping for almost 2 years, and 6 years before that, its time to get it out and make a little smoke. She's got a good tune on, last time was 1100HP Plus and the Dyno stopped recording and was still pullin. The big thing this time is adding a Liquid to Air intercooler after the Air to Air. Pullin rules sort of suck but from what I see this is (inside) the rules everywhere. It should be good for 8-10% or 100-125HP on the top end plus more torque mid range. Reworked the intake tubes, fiberglass fan (rules), Turbo blanket, rapped Pipes, if any thing it is sure cooler on the fire wall and floor, a big differance. Anyone else Hot Doggin these V8's? Last time she was really let run was in 2006 as "Thunder Dog"

Superliner Hood Pins
AZB755V8 replied to Outbehindthebarn's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I got a set from Ebay. Mind you that I like Mack parts but thats what I am replacing torn Mack pins. The quality is good they have a bluish color. They do work and hold the hood, what else are they suppose to do? The only thing is do not tighten them down to much as the pin starts to widen and will not locate the let the hood fall into place. Normal tightening is the key. I'll get them again if needed. -

Looks to be in good shape to start with. Good luck and have fun welcome. I like the H in the back ground too. -
I got a set of fiberglass fender flares for my Superliner from Australia last year. I like the look as well. Great flares but... bend over for the shipping. UPS charges dimensional weight. Parts where 5kg and $620 later in shipping they were state side. All said it cost $1000 for the flares and shipping. Had I known the shipping cost first I would not have done it.

That's a smokin deal on on that 300 & 6 speed. Put it in and GO. Pull clutch and air filter would be the big issues. Bet you could get the front mount and not have to swap engine parts. Think it has a wetline pump as well that's worth $ too. Definitely go with the paper. Don't take a chance with the oil bath. Those oil filter went by the wayside with the increased HP for a reason....
