  1. trucks is fer haulin' stuff...good thing I put them helper springs on the lil' beater truck 5 gallons diesel fuel 105 gallons of oil 10 gallons of antifreeze 10 gallons of water 8 frozen pizzas 4 gallons of ice cream 6 gallons of lemonade 2 gallons of milk easily more than 1/2 ton of stuff in the back of that little Ford Ranger, and it wasn't even showing it
  2. Welp...got it hooked up. Looks good, too
  3. Bringing the new one home Front porch ALMOST made a perfect loading dock....that tiny little step wasn't anything my hand truck couldn't handle, though...gotta love them big pneumatic tires! Doesn't get MUCH tighter than that... New vs. Old. Got more room for frozen pizzas, ice cream, sweet tea, & beer in the new one. What more does a guy need? Oughtta be easy on the wallet to run, too...and should be good for a tax break (every little bit helps)
  4. ...first time they crawl under a loaded bull wagon to inspect the brakes and the bulls...ummm.....rain on the officer's parade, so to speak, they won't be doing it again
  5. Because people with common sense have sense enough NOT to run for public office. Anyone willing to have their good name dragged though the mud in a political campaign places the power they seek over their personal reputation...and so elections turn into a knock-down drag-out fight where voters are stuck with a choice between the lesser of the evils instead of getting to choose between two or more qualified and well respected individuals.
  6. If the spill costs more than they have, what other option is there? People "boycotting" BP won't help, either, as if they cannot sell the oil & gas they hold in reserve (which they have already spend money extracting & refining), they won't have the money they need to stop the leak OR pay any damages. If the damages work out to be more than BP can pay and survive, they will close up shop and liquidate their assets. Thousands will be out of work (until the buyers of the assets are online and the rigs and refineries are back up and operating again)...not to mention, the way this administration is using powers they don't have under the Constitution to seize the assets of BP, what other oil company will ever want to do business in the US? Stop the leak. That should be priority #1. Don't worry about funding the recovery until the leak is stopped (and you can asses the total extent of the damages). To pay the damages while the leak is still active is putting the cart before the horse. Let BP pay $20 billion into this Unconstitutionally mandated "escrow account", only to come up $15 billion short of what they needed to stop the leak. The leak will continue, and BP will be broke (and out of business). At that point, NO damages will be paid to anyone (as the corporation no longer exists) and the oil will still be gushing from the gulf floor.
  7. GM's Onstar allows remote access to your cars computer in order to unlock the doors, blink the brake lights, or disable the vehicle. Ford has a "parallel parking assist" that gives the car's computer steering control (although the driver still has to shift the transmission and work the pedals). Adaptive Cruise Control w/ Brake Assist will alter the speed the cruise control is set at, and will even apply the brakes to slow the vehicle if it is approaching traffic ahead too quickly. Computers are doing more and more, allowing less qualified drivers to operate the vehicle with greater ease, while devoting even LESS of their attention on the road conditions around them. Hell, if I had the knowledge on how exactly to do it, I'd hack into the car's ahead of me to get them out of my way. Use other people's cars as bulldozers to clear a path for me to squeeze through. I hate sitting in traffic, but don't want to tear up my own ride. I'll never buy a GM because of Onstar. I won't buy a new Ford if equipped with any of the "let the car drive for you" features (including automatic transmissions....I hate them). I'm a driver...it's what I do. I don't need no stinkin' computer to help me get where I'm going. Pi$$es me off that Ford is getting rid of the manual transmission option in the 2011 F250/350's like they did with the 150 in '04. Guess I won't be buying a new Ford truck, either. That hurts, but my preference to the manual transmission goes much farther than my loyalty to the blue oval. I'd rather drive a Dodge with a manual shift than a Ford with an automatic. When I can no longer find used Fords with manual shifts and I have to buy new, it won't be Ford unless they come to their senses and nix their plan to discontinue offering the manual transmission. I'm the driver, I'll drive the vehicle.
  8. I shouldda stayed home Usually I stay pretty local...but they had me running longer during the blitz, though. Danged if they didn't catch me on a 2-lane dodging their inspection station. At least they had to come lookin' for me...
  9. Was getting ready to change the oil this weekend and was price shopping the 5-gallon buckets of Rotella. TSC had 'em cheapest at $54.99, so I ended up back there to buy 3 buckets...2 for the oil change and one more to add as the truck uses it. Anyway, I'm complaining to the manager about how danged expensive this oil is getting, but that you just can't beat Rotella for "availability"...can buy the stuff danged near anywhere. He mentioned the store brand..."Travelers"...nearly identical packaging to the Rotella, and according to the manager, came from the same distributor and had nearly identical specs. The 5 gallon buckets were only $49.99, so it'd save me $15 overall...but would it be worth it? Stood there contemplating the decision for a while...it says it meets the Mack specs...so I decided to give it a try. He only had 1 bucket in the front, so he went to the back to grab some more for me. Turns out, though, that they had a few of the "old" label buckets on clearance and wondered if I wanted them. I asked what the price was and nearly fell over when he showed me his little hand-held price scanner. $9.99 per 5 gallon bucket! He said he had 22 of 'em, and I figured since I WAS going to spend $165 on 3 buckets of Rotella, that would pay for at least 16 of these clearance buckets....and for $80 more, I could just buy 'em all. 110 gallons of oil for $220. Unfortunately, one of the buckets was 30W instead of 15W40, so I only ended up buying 21 buckets. Sure makes changing my oil a heck of a lot cheaper...$20 in oil instead of $110. Not every day that I luck into a deal that good...definitely made my day.
  10. That's why ya keep stuff in your wife's name. When the SHTF and the "company" is fined heavily, you act surprised like you had no idea what she was doing behind the scenes, get a divorce because you "just don't know who she is anymore", find a gullible new "sweet young thing" to marry and start another corporation in her name to repeat the process. You are "just an employee of the company", so you get away with it. It's all good
  11. Hope there was no cash in the wallet....laundering money is illegal
  12. That sounds like a good way to develop exhaust leaks in the flex pipe. Every truck I've ever driven with stacks mounted on the cab had shackles.
  13. I thought they used some sort of shackle to allow the cab some movement independent from the stacks...the flex pipe shouldn't really be doing all that much flexing while going down the road.
  14. I doubt it's the fuses. Mine has done that a few times...headlight switch ucks fup. When that happens, the headlights don't work, but all the other lights are unaffected. The flash-to-pass switch on the turn signal lever still makes the high beams come on. So, I rigged up another switch to get me home. Then, after getting fed up with replacing these cheap-a$$ switches, I made this change permanent by mounting the switch in a blank so that it is in the dash instead of dangling out of it. It's just a simple on/off...so I have all-or-nothing when it comes to lights...but at least everything turns on.
  15. I know there's two up there off 255. One is in Dupo...I see our trucks in there all the time too but I ain't ever been in there. The other is in MO just across the river at the first exit...been there once.
  16. OK...stopped by Mack today and bought a clutch brake. They had 2 to choose from, but NEITHER was like the one I was shown by the head guy in the company shop. The one he showed me looked real easy to install...wrap it around the shaft, insert 2 rods into the clutch brake, and use them to pinch the clip-on brake together. Anyway, I had the choice between a Haldex clutch brake for $31 or an Eaton for $32. The Haldex was the kind that had the plastic pin...so even though it was the part number the guy at the shop said to get, he had also said to stay away from the plastic pins. The Eaton has the two allen screws. The deciding factor in my purchase? Haldex = made in china. Eaton = made in USA. I did my part to keep jobs here. Anyway, I put it in when I got home...and it works.
  17. Since I don't know what or where that is, I'd hafta say no.
  18. I'd rather have FLIR to help cut through the fog we get early in the morning around here.... This was me and a fellow MC club member riding to a friend's funeral Pic was taken by another club member in a van behind us.
  19. Trucks is fer workin'. When it comes time to rest, I like to be comfortable.

  21. I'd tell ya what my phone # was in high school...but it's still my folk's number
  22. Is that a dog squatting down taking a dump on the hood of that freightshaker?
  23. I've got steel inside/aluminum outside on my drives...been that way since I bought it, and it's more common than you think. You get some of the weight savings and have the look of aluminum wheels without the expense. Of course, there would be more weight savings with all aluminum....but for all practical purposes, it really doesn't matter. If you swap the steel rims for aluminum, you have to get longer studs...
  24. Now why you gotta be ruinin' a perfectly good truck with all that rookie crap?
